Commodores Corner
Hello all, well last Sunday was our AGM with a great turn out, congratulations must go out to all prize winners especially to the overall champions who all had put in a great effort during the season to compete in as many club weekends they could, with Heath Riddell coming out on top. It was also a special day for Alli Hoare as he joined the gold card club and became the clubs 4th life member. As a committee we also said a big thank you to George Daines and Don Finlayson for their work and commitment to the club over the years as they are both standing down from the committee. As a club we are looking forward, to come up with new ways to keep our fish resources in good order and sustainable for many years to follow, so if anyone has some ideas please contact any of the committee. I hear tell that some of our gold club card holders managed a good days fishing last Friday while the rest of us work on, great to hear and keep it up.
The new club weekend dates are attached to the news letter so let’s see if we can get a few more of our members out on the water on these days. One last thing, please keep the info coming in on the dick of the year contenders for this new season as our past commodore is keen to pass the flash trophy on at the next AGM (aye Mark). Tight lines for now see you on the water. Gary

NO FISHING RESULTS FOR
JULY
Three guys die together in an accident and go
to heaven.
When they get there, St. Peter says, "We only
have one rule here in heaven: Don't step on
the ducks!"
So they enter heaven, and sure enough, there
are ducks all over the place.
It is almost impossible not to step on a duck,
and although they try their best to avoid
them, the first guy accidentally steps on one.
Along comes St. Peter with the ugliest
woman he has ever seen. St. Peter chains
them together and says:
"Your punishment for stepping on a duck is to
spend eternity chained to the ugly woman!"
The next day, the second guy steps
accidentally on a duck, and along comes St.
Peter, who doesn't miss a thing, and with him
is another extremely ugly woman.
He chains them together with the same
admonishment as for the first guy.
The third guy has observed all this and not
wanting to be chained for all eternity to an
ugly woman, is very, VERY careful where he
steps.
He manages to go months without stepping
on any ducks, but one day St. Peter comes up
to him with the most gorgeous woman he has
ever laid eyes on: a very tall, tan, curvaceous,
sexy blonde.
St. Peter chains them together without
saying a word.
The guy remarks, "I wonder what I did to
deserve being chained to you for all of
eternity?"
She says, "I don't know about you, but I
stepped on a duck!"

Pray for the deaf:The preacher inquired "Anyone with 'special needs' who wants to be
prayed over, please come forward to the front by the altar." With
that, a Maori chap got in line, and when it was his turn, the vicar asked "Wiremu”, what do you
want me to pray about for you ?" Wiremu replied, "Preacher, I need
you to pray for help with my hearing." The preacher put one finger of one hand in Wiremu's
ear, placed his other hand on top of Wiremu's head, and then
prayed and prayed and prayed. He prayed to the 'Almighty' for
Wiremu, and the whole congregation joined in with great
enthusiasm.
After a few minutes, the preacher removed his hands, stood back
and asked, "Wiremui, how is your hearing now ?"
Wiremu answered, "I don't know. It ain't 'til next week !"

A man is going skydiving for the first time.
After listening to the instructor for what
seems like days, he is ready to go. The man
goes up in the aeroplane and waits to get to
the proper altitude.
Excited, he jumps out of the airplane.
After a bit, he pulls the ripcord. Nothing
happens.
He tries again. Still nothing.
He starts to panic but remembers his backup
chute.
He pulls that cord. Nothing happens.
He frantically begins pulling both cords but to
no avail.
Suddenly, he looks down and he can't believe
his eyes.
Another man is in the air with him, but this
guy is going up!
Just as the other guy passes by, the skydiver,
by this time scared out of his wits, yells,
"Hey, do you know anything about
skydiving?"
The other guy yells back, "No! Do you know
anything about gas stoves?"

The industry’s unwillingness to take observers on board fishing vessels is just the latest in a long line of examples of commercial fishers operating in bad faith and flouting the laws as if they own New Zealand’s fisheries.
Forest and Bird has obtained information under the Official Information Act and say the refusals to take observers onboard is not good enough and LegaSea wholeheartedly agrees, says spokesman Scott Macindoe.
“Whether they’re dumping catch, hiding dolphin fatalities, refusing to allow cameras on boats or, as we’ve seen in this latest round, putting to sea without observers, too many companies and fishers have been unwilling to do what is right by the law, by the fisheries or the people of New Zealand.”
LegaSea has a litany of evidence that paints a stark picture of an industry operating outside its remit and without proper oversight.
“What has become strikingly obvious is the pattern of under-reporting, of hiding the truth, and of senior fisheries managers looking the other way. When evidence comes to light of yet more bad behaviour, MPI, now Fisheries New Zealand, either attacks the messenger, rubbishes the science, works with industry to hide the situation from public view or simply shrugs its shoulders and promises to do more.”
LegaSea is convinced that these issues are ongoing and will only get worse if the commercial fishing industry gains more power over the fisheries and management.
“It is issues such as these that add more nails to the coffin of the Quota Management System. Poor oversight and overallocation just compound our woes. The alternatives to the Quota Management System need to be found now so we can have a robust fisheries management system that provides benefits for all New Zealanders in the future.”

Wiremu’s Blackened Kingfish
Serves 4
• Blackened seasoning (makes 1/4 cup)
1/4 – 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
2 tbsp paprika
2 tsp onion flakes
1.5 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried thyme
• 4 kingfish fillets
• 25g butter
• 1 tbsp olive oil
Method
1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees. Line a baking tray with baking paper.
2. Lightly season kingfish with blackened seasoning.
3. In a large frying pan, heat the butter and olive oil together. Once hot, sauté the fish fillets in the hot pan and cook for approximately 30 seconds to a minute each side, then transfer to the baking tray and finish cooking the fish in the oven for approximately 5-8 minutes. Cooking time will vary depending on the thickness of your fish fillets (also keep in mind your fish will continue cooking after removal from the oven).
4. Serve the blackened kingfish on a bed of rice and quinoa with a green side salad.
And of course a cold wine or beer!
