Principal’s Message
MOTIVATE - EDUCATE - CELEBRATE
Welcome to our fortnightly newsletter which provides the opportunity to showcase our students and
share information with you. I hope you enjoy the two weeks school holidays and take time to create
life long memories with your child.
FAREWELL TO MRS CHIPS NORTHCOTT
After many years at Ardross Primary School we say a fond farewell to Mrs Northcott. She has ensured
that community members are met with a warm smile and that students and staff are given extra
support when needed. Within Mrs Northcott’s role as school officer she has worked in unison with
many staff members to ensure that timelines are met and that the smooth running of Ardross PS
continues on a daily basis. We wish Mrs Northcott many many years of the freedom to travel, relax
and live the dream.
SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT DAY
School resumes for both staff and students on Monday, 9 October. A school development day will
occur on Friday, 24 November. Students do not attend on this day.
WA MASSED CHOIR FESTIVAL
What a privilege to attend the WA Massed Choir at Perth Concert Hall last night. Our students shone
as they sung in unison with approximately 350 other children. I would like to thank Mrs Claire Mason
for her time and dedication to ensure our children were prepared and enjoyed the experience.
Many thanks also to Mrs Schaper, Mrs Cooper and Ms Foote who assisted the students on the night.
KISS AND DRIVE
I hope you have received your Kiss & Drive leaflet outlining use of this area. Providing a safe
environment for our students is paramount and the role we play is vital. Mrs Campbell’s class have
created their own power point and willingly shared their knowledge of the guidelines with me. Many
other classes have visited the Kiss & Drive area to reinforce the importance of safety.
FACTION ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
What a beautiful Spring day we had on 8 September for our Faction Athletics Carnival. It was a
wonderful opportunity to meet together as a community and celebrate our students participation in
sport. There are many people that need to be thanked for making sure the day was a success.
Thank you to all staff who ensured students participated in all team and individual events. A special thanks to both Ms Davies and Mr Parker. Thank you to our wonderful P&C for organising the food van
and also the cake stall. The fudge kept my sugar levels up all day!
NEW AFTER-SCHOOL MANDARIN LANGUAGE CLUB IN TERM 4
As a hub for the Ardross community we are proud to provide a venue for community groups and
educational providers. Beginning next term the Mandarin Language Club will provide Mandarin

to announce that a NEW after-school Mandarin Language Club is coming to school as of Term 4

and children who purchased books on the day. A special THANKYOU to Mrs Stenton and Mrs Jones who helped on the

UNIFORM SHOP NEWS
The Uniform Shop urgently requires 2 to 3 new volunteers for next year. It is not a big job, and all it requires is to commit
about an hour every second Thursday (and every Thursday in February) from about 8.30am. Please ring Kim on
0402 446 810 so that we can start training soon.
Also please note that from Monday, 8 October a new price list will take effect for all uniform items. Please see the full
list at the Uniform Shop.
LOST PROPERTY
Please take a moment to check the lost property box which is located outside the office. While we make every
attempt to reunite clothing and other items with their owners, we are unable to do this if there is no name on the
article. Children are welcome to check the box for any items they may have misplaced.

ROOMS 11/12 & 16
Our classes have been enjoying EduDance lessons this term. Mrs Osborne has worked with the students to teach
them the dance steps. At our assembly we performed ‘You’re Welcome’ from the movie ‘Moana’. Miss Cooper
and Miss Brown were very proud of the performance and of the children who volunteered for speaking roles at the
assembly. Thank you to the parents and families who attended.

MISSING INTERSCHOOL CLOTHING
We are missing some of our interschool clothing, which has been on loan from Winter Sports and Cross Country. Please
check your child/ren’s wardrobe and send any interschool clothing items to the office as soon as possible. Thank you.
ATHLETICS
On Friday, 8 September, Ardross Primary School had their annual Sports Carnival. The sun was beaming and
excitement filled the air as everyone got ready for their races. We had lovely cake stalls with supplies from the
parents, treats from Baker’s Delight, and a food truck that offered drinks and savoury foods. Everyone wore the
colours of their factions and some kids even used hairspray and zinc. By the looks of it, everyone had fun and showed
great sportsmanship towards their races. In the end, Wellard took the glory by winning the carnival, and Waylen won
the Team Spirit Award. By Romy B, Waylen Faction Captain
We were blessed with sunshine and warmth for our Faction Athletics Carnival and what a great couple of days they were.
The students have worked hard this term on their skills to perform to their best, while showing great behaviour and excellent
sportsmanship. There are so many people to thank:
♦ Teachers for training and organising their factions, set up and pack down on carnival days, completing duties on
carnival days so they ran smoothly.
♦ Faction Leaders for helping set up carnival days and Friday Sport, assisting with organisation and training of factions, helping on carnival days.
♦ Our parents who offered to help on either of our days, including Marie and Mark Ainsworth, Gloria Fitzgerald,
Angela Tooker, Liz Grimshaw, Melissa Matthews, Sam Hickman, Monique Gilmore (I’m sorry if I have missed you from my
list).
♦ Parents for support and encouragement of our children.
♦ P&C for the amazing cake stall and coffee / food van.
♦ Sensations for delivering delicious lunches.
♦ Library for running a very successful Book Fair.

WILD MOVEMENT PERTH - KIDS SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAM
Steve was one of our outside providers who came to Ardross during Term 1. The students were engaged and energised
and now continually ask to play the games that Steve facilitated while teaching them how to move like we were made to.
I can’t recommend this program enough and it’s for adults too! Steve runs FREE Wild Movement sessions every Tuesday at
Moore & Moore Café in Fremantle, 9:30 – 11:30am. Have a coffee while your kids, have fun and learn!
Our classes provide an opportunity for children to develop the full range of natural human movement patterns that should
naturally develop (although today quite often don't) through unstructured play and exploring natural environments.
Walking, balancing, running, jumping, crawling, climbing, lifting, carrying, throwing, catching, vaulting & roughhousing.
Children will have the opportunity to learn and develop new movement skills, improve risk assessment, cooperate in teams,
problem solve and leave with a sense of accomplishment and confidence.
At Wild Movement Perth we aim to equip children with the fundamental natural movement skills that are necessary in order
to go out and explore nature and have meaningful experiences. All of our classes take place in our outdoor nature play/
jungle gym facility. Children of all ages are welcome .

KISS AND DRIVE
The students in Room 6 have been learning about the Kiss and Drive rules and have demonstrated their knowledge
through mapping, writing and illustrations. It's great to see the children also learning the rules so that families are more
aware.
The guidelines for Kiss and Drive can be found on the school website for your viewing. Please familiarise yourself with
these guidelines and discuss them with your children. This will ensure our community stays safe. Denelle Ellery

BRING HOME A BIG BROTHER OR SISTER AND BRING FRENCH, ITALIAN OR SPANISH CULTURE TO LIFE!
Why not volunteer to host an international student from France, Italy or Spain next year? We have a small group of
delightful students coming to Australia for 11 weeks to immerse in local Australian culture, experience our high schools,
sports, environment and lifestyle. All these international students are around 15 or 16 years old, speak excellent English,
have their own spending money, cover all school expenses, and we arrange all aspects of their program. They are
looking forward to joining an Australian family for a short term cultural immersion stay. It’s fun and interesting to help these
young people achieve their Australian dream. If you would like to know more, please email your interest to ICM on
[email protected] or call Georgie or Anja on 1800 500 501, or visit our website www.icm-education.com.
