A modern version of Psalm 23 The Lord is my pace-setter, I shall not rush

He makes me stop and rest for quiet intervals;

He provides me with images of stillness which restore my serenity.

He leads me in ways of efficiency through calmness of mind;

And his guidance is peace.

Even though I have many things to accomplish each day,

I will not fret, for His presence is here,

His timelessness will keep me poised and balanced,

He prepares refreshment and renewal in the midst of activity

By anointing my mind with the oils of tranquillity.

My cup of joyous energy overflows,

Surely harmony and effectiveness shall be the fruits of my days

For I will walk at the pace of my Lord and dwell in his house forever.

Seeking Knowledge – Living Our Faith

Digital Reporting on Linc-Ed Last year we took the first steps towards digital reporting of your child’s progress and achievement. In 2019 at mid-year and at the end of the year we:

Reported on the goals your child had achieved and those they were working on in maths, reading and writing via Linc-Ed.

Teachers commented on children’s progress in maths, reading, writing and Religious Education and also wrote a general comment about your child.

This year we will be taking our second step towards more effective reporting:

We will continue marking off goals and setting new goals in reading, writing and maths via Linc-Ed.

We will be starting to report in a more timely and relevant way in maths, reading and writing. Instead of getting your maths, reading and writing comments at mid and end of year we will schedule reporting to you on these areas across the year. - We will be sending you (via Linc Ed) a sample of your child’s work and the teacher comments

will be focused directly on your child’s progress and achievement in that area. - This means that you will receive reports about what your child is currently doing rather than

what they have been doing. E.g. in the past mid-year comments may have focused on any work from T1 or T2.

- We will also be reporting on Religious Education in the same way.

This digital reporting will be the same across the whole school and will replace the portfolio books that used to go home from classes in the Rutherford and Sheppard Teams.

Our teachers have been working hard this term learning how to best use this system of digital reporting and organising what our first sample and comments will look like.

Our first timely sample and attached comments for 2020 will be on maths and will be published to you on April 3rd.

For new parents, in our next newsletter we will republish guidelines on how to access this aspect of Linc-Ed and also be resending the video.

2020 Digital Reporting Timeline T1 – Maths sample and comments T2 – Writing sample and comments – Reading sample and comments – General comment

There will still be mid-year interviews at the end of T2 T3 – Maths sample and comments – RE sample and comments T4 – Writing sample and comments – Reading sample and comments – General comment

Walk & Wheel Day

We had plenty of children who walked, biked and scootered to school for our Walk and Wheel day. Thank you to our PAL’s for organising this event.

Batten Team Woodend Camp Last week the Batten Team went to Woodend Christian Camp. We had a wonderful time and the support was greatly appreciated. We did a wide range of activities. On the first day we did aero jump, waterslide and zipline. The rotation was spontaneous. The next two days activities included archery, team building, rock climbing, go karts, orienteering and waterslide a second time. Each of these was action packed and gave us great learning opportunities. We would like to thank all the parent helpers who came to help us out. Without them camp wouldn’t have been possible. They participated in multiple activities, helping out and actually doing them! We had a great time and we will remember it for years to come.

Children’s Mass – Rutherford & Batten Teams

All our families who have children in the Rutherford Team and the Batten Team are warmly invited to attend the Children’s Mass at Hoon Hay Church on Sunday 15th March at 9 a.m. Children do not need to wear their school uniform and can sit with their families. This is a lovely Mass, where the children are given a chance to participate in different roles within the Mass. We look forward to seeing you there.

Parent Help Required – Please! We are currently planning for our Winter Sport Programme, which runs in Term 2 (8 weeks) and Term 3 (4 weeks) for our senior students. We have enough children to make up 12 teams, playing either hockey, football or netball. We only have four teaching staff available to coach and are therefore appealing to our parent/caregiver community for help with the remaining 8 coaching positions. Ideally we would like to allocate two parents to each team so that you can cover each other over the two terms. Winter Sport is played on a Thursday afternoon at Hagley Park between 1:00 pm and 2:30 pm. As a coach you would need to be available every Thursday to supervise the children and referee part of the game. If you can help (or have a grandparent, aunty/uncle or other family member who can help), please email Kim Williams [email protected], indicating which sport you would like to assist with (hockey, netball or football) and which age group (i.e. yr 5/6 or yr 7/8).

Helping Hands at OLA - Members Appeal At OLA have been running a Helping Hands Programme for 8 years. It is part of the pastoral care and special character of our school. Our main work involves cooking meals or baking for a school or parish family who have a need at any given time for all sorts of reasons. It is a confidential service - anyone can use it to either be a receiver or a giver of food. If you are already a member of our programme please email [email protected] to advise us of your contact details. If you are new to our school community and would like to be part of this programme or know someone who has a need to some support in this way at any time, please email [email protected] or contact our principal Janet Cummings.

Helping Hands Fundraiser Helping Hands will be holding a “Bacon Butties” fundraiser on Wednesday 25th March. Bacon Butties will cost $3.00 each and can be ordered by clicking here. All money raised will go towards the Helping Hands Programme.
