General Information

All committee, council and board meetings, with the exception of Staff-Parish Relations meetings, are open to all church members who are encouraged to attend, as non-voting participants, in as many meetings as possible. Meeting times and locations are normally listed on the church website calendar. In order to take full advantage of experienced members yet infuse new ideas, several committees are structured in classes of 2 to 4 members that serve for 3 or 4 years, with one class rotating off and being replaced every year with new membership. Committee Chair Responsibilities Although general training will be offered by the church, committee chairs are responsible for training their committee on the procedures, processes, responsibilities and authorities of their specific committees. This can normally be accomplished in the first meeting. Chairs are to schedule meetings, provide the agenda, facilitate purposeful, creative discussion while maintaining control and direction. Positions indicated by (*) are described in the Book of Discipline. The Church Conference* Is the governing body of the church and consists of all members and ministers. Meets in May to elect the officers of the church for a year of service beginning September 1. Meets in late fall with the District Superintendent presiding to approve the budget, hear reports, decide on major changes, recommend candidates pursuing ordained ministry, etc. The Church Council* Has the authority of the Church Conference between meetings of the Conference. All other committees report to, and have only the power to recommend action to be taken by, the Church Conference. Sets polices of the church and, through its sub-committees and the staff, overseas all ministries, missions, finances and activities of the church, with the Senior Pastor as the chief executive officer.

Church Council Chair* and Vice Chair Lead the Council in its responsibilities, coordinate with other leaders then set the agenda, coordinate and assign responsibility for Council action, communicate action to and outside the Council, provide initiative and leadership. Secretary Record and publish minutes of the Church Council and Church Conference meetings and accomplish additional duties as requested by the Chair and Senior Pastor. Treasurer* and Assistants Work with the Finance Staff and Finance Committee to properly disburse all contributions and other money collected by the church. Normally sign most checks written by the church. Age Level Coordinators* Coordinate and guide Christian learning, nurture and spiritual growth of each age level and special interest group. Church Council at Large Members Members who do not represent a specific group or interest on the Council. Communications Chair Provide guidance in optimizing communication within, and external to, the church. Great Day of Service Chair Work with the Member Involvement Director to select and plan projects, recruit project chairs and volunteers and oversee the Service. Lay Leader(s)* Serve on SPR, Finance and Nominations Committee representing the congregation at large and facilitating communication within and between the staff and congregation. Lay Members to the Annual Conference* Attend and represent the church at all sessions of the Annual Conference and provide a follow up report to the congregation. There will be one lay delegate for each active clergy delegate. Performing Arts Chairperson Oversee all performing arts events regardless of the group involved. Preschool Board Act as laity liaison, with the staff liaison, between the church and the resident preschool organization. Singles Ministry Chair Act as “age level” coordinator for singles ministries in concert with the appointed minister.
