Arriving Late to School In previous years we have had a number of children arriving late to school each morning. This year, however, there has been great improvement in lessening instances of late arrivals and we thank our families for ensuring all students are at school by 9am. As a reminder, all late arrivals are recorded through our school attendance data, which is regularly audited through by the Department of Education. Whilst there are instances where late arrivals are justified, including morning medical appointments and unavoidable delays such as traffic or family emergencies, many are not justified. This includes, getting up late, running late or leaving home late. It is vitally important that children are at school, ready to start the day by 9am. This sets students up for a successful day and ensures they are included in morning routines, such as explanations about the learning to come. One of our PBL expectations is “Be a Learner” and successful learners are on time, organised and present. We appreciate the support of all our school community, including parents/carers, in helping our children be successful learners.

Parent / Teacher Interviews Interview spots are filling up fast for Tuesday 19th and 26th March. Please ensure you have returned your interview slip to school so that we can allocate you a time. This year we will have supervision for children, during the interview sessions from 3.30 – 6.30pm, in the school Library. Mrs Wright, Mrs Denning and Mrs Knight will be in the Library and activities will be provided for students while parents/carers are meeting with class teachers. Please note: if students are at school during the interview sessions they are to be either in the Library being supervised or older children may wish to attend the interviews with a parent/carer. There should not be students downstairs playing during interview times. We hope by providing supervision, all parents/carers will have the opportunity to attend an interview session with the class teachers whilst ensuring the safety of our students. Have a lovely week.

What has been happening in Preschool this week? The Preschool children from both groups have shown an interest in snakes. We have researched different types of snakes in Australia and we will be learning more about these amazing reptiles. We will be looking at photos of the top 10 deadliest snakes in Australia. It is lovely to see the friendships that are forming between the children as they play, laugh and enjoy their time at Preschool. This indicates the positive relationships that we have formed in our Preschool and that children feel safe, secure and supported. Children are gaining confidence in themselves everyday and are beginning to ‘have a go’ at things before asking for assistance. Outcome 1: Children feel safe, secure and supported.

Crazy Hair Day The SRC is holding a Crazy Hair Day, raising funds for the World’s Greatest Shave and Make-A-Wish Australia. The Goanna group can come to Preschool on Thursday, 14th March wearing their hair in a wild wacky way and bring a gold coin donation. We will be having a Crazy Hair Day for the Echidna group on Tuesday, 19th March (please note this is the same day as our Harmony Day Celebrations).

Harmony Day We will be celebrating Harmony Day on Thursday, 21st March. As part of our Harmony Day celebrations, can you please send in a plain white t-shirt that your child can draw/paint on. As this is a Goanna’s day, the Echidna group will join the celebrations on Tuesday, 19th March.

North Coast Area Health Nurse Visit Area Health Nurse, Anna Tonkin will be visiting Preschool in the coming weeks, performing the children’s before school assessments. Anna will be visiting on Thursday 14th March, Monday 18th March, Tuesday 19th March, Friday 22nd March, Monday 25th March, Tuesday 26th March and Thursday 28th March. Appointment times will be between 9.15 – 11.50am. Please see the Preschool staff as soon as possible to make a time for your child’s screening. It is required that a parent/carer is able to make it to the assessment with their child. Before school screening is vital as it may detect any issues, such as hearing, sight or speech, that might affect your child’s learning. ClassDojo Have you signed up to ClassDojo?
