News from the Nest Sept. 22, 2017 Union Academy Family Newsletter Notes from the Headmaster I want to thank all our volunteers from the bottom of my heart for everything you did to make our annual BBQ fundraiser such a huge success this year. We nearly DOUBLED our sales from last year, selling about 7,000 BBQ plates to our friends, families, and community. We also tripled the amount of deliveries made. That’s absolutely amazing! Whether you donated desserts or chips, cut cakes, volunteered to help with pick-up or delivery, sold tickets, or just came out to enjoy some delicious BBQ, it wouldn’t have come together without your support. Your positive attitudes and smiling faces certainly made Friday a great day at UA! For this newsletter, we wanted to focus mostly on the success of the BBQ, and let you know about some of next week’s important events. Again, I cannot thank you enough for your continuous contributions to our school. As always, WE ARE UA! High School Volunteers Needed! LEGO Robotics Workshops at Benton Heights Elementary Student Volunteers Needed (Grades 10-12) When: 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2- Sunday, Oct. 5. Where: Benton Heights Elementary School 1200 Concord Ave. Monroe, NC 28110 We are looking for three to seven (or more!) bright, energetic student volunteers (grades 10 – 12) with contagious smiles who enjoy working with elementary school-aged children. This is a great opportunity for high school students with a passion for technology to share their knowledge and enthusiasm and inspire young children! As volunteers, students will help these third-, fourth- and fifth-graders during an amazing week of hands-on activities in our LEGO WeDo, Scratch Coding and LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Robotics workshops. Being bilingual in English and Spanish is a definite plus, as is experience with coding and LEGO robotics, but neither is required. Great energy, attitude and patience are most important! Student volunteers are NOT required to work all four workshop days. If your student is interested, please have him or her contact Ken Adelglass from Waxhaw Kid Coders at 704-243-8801, or they can email him at [email protected].

I want to thank all our volunteers from the bottom of my heart for everything you did to make our annual BBQ fundraiser such a huge success this year. High School Volunteers Needed!

LEGO Robotics Workshops at Benton Heights Elementary Student Volunteers Needed (Grades 10-12)

When: 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2- Sunday, Oct. 5.

Where: Benton Heights Elementary School 1200 Concord Ave.

Monroe, NC 28110

We are looking for three to seven (or more!) bright, energetic student volunteers (grades 10 – 12) with contagious smiles who enjoy working with elementary school-aged children. This is a great opportunity for high school students with a passion for technology to share their knowledge and enthusiasm and inspire young children!
