Member of the Term• Member of the Term is our way of recognizing individuals who are
exceptionally dedicated to and involved in PVMA
• MoT points are awarded when you attend member meetings, volunteer trips, activities, clinics, and workshops, as well as assist in fundraising activities and more
• Two Members of the Term will be recognized during Week 9 of each term and awarded a small prize of their choice
• Member of the Term points have reset for Winter Term
• Questions regarding MoT can be directed to Secretary and Historian Michaela
Club Apparel
•$8.00 per T-shirt
•Women’s vs. men’s
•Limited supply
•$10.00 per T-shirt
•$25.00 per sweatshirt
•Unisex, but runs large
• Both new and old club apparel is
available for pick-up tonight
• Club apparel fees are due at the
time of purchase and can be payed
to Treasurer Holly by either cash or
check made out to "PVMA at OSU"

Veterinary Clinic Skills Workshop
•Week 8 Tuesday, February 26th 6-6:50pm and 7-7:50pm
•25 members per session, groups of 5 rotating through 5 stations
Station 1: Vaccines
Station 2: Catheter placement & blood draws
Station 3: Restraint & TPR
Station 4: Fecals
Station 5: Client Communication
Mentor/Mentee Program
• Meant to encourage relations between PVMA members and promote a more interactive club
• Mentors and mentees can assist one another on common concerns and questions about OSU, PVMA, and the veterinary profession
•Five (5) Member of the Term points for being a mentor
•Three (3) Member of the Term points for being a mentee
Mentor/Mentee Program Requirements
•Must pay PVMA dues for the final two terms
•Must attend four of the five PVMA meetings each term
•Must set up a point of contact such as texting, Facebook messaging, email, etc.
•It is recommended that the mentee(s) and mentor meet before or after each PVMA meeting
How to Apply
•Applications due 11:59 P.M. on Monday, January 14th, Week 2
•Send completed forms to [email protected]
•Application includes seven general questions to help the officer team match members with similar interests

Wildlife Safari
•This park is 600 acres with hundreds of free roaming animals. It’s known as America’s Best Cheetah Breeding Facility. We will be given a tour of the park and it’s veterinary facility.
•Saturday February 9th 10am-2pm.Meet in Withycombe parking lot at 7:30am.
•Maximum of 20 people.
•Sign up will be during Week 3 Meeting
Wild Turkey Farm
•This is a horse breeding and training facility that specializes in sport horses. Located in Wilsonville, OR.
•Saturday February 16th 10am-2pm. Meet in Withycombe parking lot at 8:15am.
•Maximum of 20 people
•Sign up will be during Week 5 Meeting
Intermediate Horse Handling Workshop
•February 2nd 10am-12pm at the OSU Horse Center (20 participant maximum)
•Carpool available at 9:40am in Withycombe parking lot
•Taking Vital Signs with Dr. Sherwood
•Must have some previous horse handling experience OR have attended the first workshop
•All Sign ups after the meeting at the front with Kaylee
Mock Interviews next Tuesday!
•Tuesday, January 15th, 5:30 -7:30 pm (16 participant maximum)
•Juniors & Seniors Sign up first, preference given to those who have been given an interview
•Interviewed at two stations: sign up for two spots (half hour total)
•1-2 ‘watchers’ that will observe the mock interviews
•Must have paid dues beforehand!
•All Sign ups after the meeting at the front with Kaylee

•MMI Structure: 6 stations in Magruder Hall
•2 minutes to read scenario outside the room and 6 minutes in the room to describe the scenario
•There are follow up questions for each scenario
•Shake it off and keep your head up. With MMI style interviewing, if one station doesn’t go well, you will have other opportunities to make a first impression with different interviewers.

1. Your Appearance/Composure
•Dress professionally & conservative, Shake hands before & after
•Talk clearly and smoothly with no “um” or other filler words, you should not sound choreographed or rehearsed
•How you react to the questions, practice thinking on your feet
•Good posture that reflects confidence
•Attempt to engage the interviewers. Be animated to keep their interest, use some hand gestures (but be natural), and this will create a more lasting impression

2. Alertness & Comprehension
•Use time wisely, make an organized bullet list of talking points to hit during the interview (Quality > Quantity!)
•Respond with a confident tone of voice with appropriate volume
•Maintain good eye contact shifting between interviewers
•Attentiveness/Focus (do you get distracted at all or miss a portion of the question? Do your eyes shift away from the interviewer?)

3. Review the content and material you submitted in your application
•If you performed poorly in some courses, be able to explain why and what you did to overcome that poor grade
•Turn weaknesses into strengths: how you learned from the situation and how you are more prepared now
•Be able to comment on your major contributions in organizations or other leadership positions
•Bring a copy of your application to your interview in a folder- in case there are questions you need to address

4. Technical Knowledge about animals & vet med
•Prepare in your mind a description of an event you found educational, what transpired and eventual resolution
•If you share a story tell the situation, the conflict and the solution
•If you are questioned about your career goals in veterinary medicine, have a general knowledge about your animal system of interest & common diseases

5. Awareness of the Veterinary Profession & its Ethics
•Know the approximate costs of tuition, books, yearly living expenses with the school you are applying to
•Know the average debt annually, average income & have a plan as to how to pay for your education
•As veterinarians, we are advocates for the animal and provide information for the owner to help them decide on a course of action

5. Awareness of the Veterinary Profession & its Ethics
•Know your standards for ethical behavior, safety comes first
•Most of the time there is no right or wrong answer, however, it would not be wise to be aggressively supportive or rejective of certain practices, avoid being polar to one belief (e.g. all research is bad).

6. As your interview draws to a close, you may be offered an opportunity to make a short, concluding statement (1-2 min.)
•Summarize your candidacy by exhibiting strength and leadership
•e.g. “I thank you for this opportunity to be present and allowing me to reaffirm my interest in attending ___ College of Veterinary Medicine.”

Officer Requirements
•Must be a due-paying member to run for an officer position
•Must be full time enrolled throughout entire year at OSU with exception of dual enrolled students
•Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75
•Must be present at all member & officer meetings: Tuesdays 6:30-8:30pm (more or less depending on the week)
•Must actively help out with clinics, workshops, Dog N' Jog, & volunteer events (one per term minimum)
Volunteer Coordinator
•Plan 2-4 volunteer opportunities per termI.e. Fences for Fido, Green Acres Farm Sanctuary, Lighthouse Farm Sanctuary, Heartland Humane Society, Safehaven Humane Society
•Give a presentation at the start of each term listing volunteer opportunities and guidelines for members
•Provide signup sheets for volunteer trips at member meetings
•Attend and provide transportation to volunteer trips
During elections please bear in mind...
•Choose the best candidate for the position (why you are good for the position is most important, not veterinary experience)
•Do not judge all candidates by their public speaking ability (only the president typically speaks at meetings)
