19.01.2021Maths Challenge Sheet – Numbers to 20

Look at the baskets of eggs. For each picture:• Partition the number into tens and

ones • Complete a part-part whole• Write the number in words

For example

Maths Learning Journey– Place Value to 20

Counting forwards and backwards 0-20.

Numbers from 11-20

Partitioning a number into tens and ones

Count one more and ones less

Compare groups of objects

Compare numbers

Order groups of objects

Order numbers

We know this is 10 because the tens frame is full.

There are 7 ones.

We are counting forwards…our numbers are getting greater.

We are counting backwards…our numbers are getting smaller.

In class we normally have our maths journey on our working wall. Check out where we are and what learning is coming up!

This is called Base Ten. The stick has the value of 10.

Each cube has the value of 1

This does not mean one. It means there is one group of ten.

There is 1 ten and 5 ones.

There is 1 ten and 4 ones.

Just because we can’t count each individual pencil, we know there are 10 because it says it is a pack of 10.

Think about what comes before and after a number.

One more than 17 is 18.18 is one more than 17

One less than 17 is 16.16 is one less than 17.

Word problems: There were 15 birds in a tree. 1 flew away. How many are there now?

EnglishTuesday’s lesson:

Learning Objective: I can make inferences on the basis of what is being said and done.

Yesterday you described a special person in your life.

Today’s task:Today you are going to

imagine that you are Syd and write about his Grandad.

My Grandad by Syd

Think about what Syd would want to say. You could start

with..

My Grandad is very special to me

because…

What kind of adjectives could

you use?

working wall

English Working WallGrandad’s Island

Key VocabularyKind, caring, courageous, exploring,

Prediction: What do you think the story is going to

be about?

VipersMonday’s lesson:

Vipers is a lesson that focuses on different reading skills.

Discuss these questions with someone at home. Write your answers in full sentences.

Click on the picture to hear the book. Stop at the page above.

How would you describe Grandad’s house? Replace the word in bold with a synonym (a word with the same meaning): Syd could let himself in any time that he liked.

Explain how the author/illustrator has made Grandad’s house seem warm and inviting.

Where is Grandad’s house? The key to Grandad’s house is under a wheelbarrow. True or false? What can you see in Grandad’s garden??

Spelling – TuesdayThe /k/ sound is spelt as k rather than as c before e, i and

y. The /nk/ sound found at the end of words and usually
