Tell us about your role before joining ReThink

Having finished University, I joined a major retailer in their call centre as I needed to start earning money. I knew it wasn’t what I wanted to do as it was minimum wage and shift work, but it paid the bills. I would spend an entire shift on the phone talking from customers looking to vent their frustrations on products that they had purchased. I had to show empathy, understanding, take ownership and try to offer a suitable solution.

Before joining us did you have any preconceptions about the recruitment sector?

Yes, I thought it would be very ‘wolf of wall street’. I imagined it would be a young, male dominated environment all about the sales. I anticipated it would be professional and fast paced.

If so were they accurate?

Obviously it is a sales job so there is an element of making as much as you reasonably can, however I soon discovered it is more about customer service. You will not succeed in this career if all you do is try to make money in the aggressive sales approach, you need to offer exceptional customer service and go the extra mile for your clients and candidates alike. I was right about the professionalism and pace required to be successful in this job.

How was the transition to working for a recruitment company?

It was completely new to me. I received market leading training which prepared me for the job. This job is very self-managing so it was different having to motivate myself as opposed to having a rigid and automated work process.

What attracted you specifically to ReThink Recruitment?

The potential to earn huge amounts from un-capped commission in a mature working environment and not being micro managed with endless KPI’s were what attracted me the most. The freedom to work on your own market and not be told what to do daily. The people who I met during the interviews seemed like genuinely decent people compared to other companies.

Tell us about your role before joining ReThink

Before starting with Rethink, I worked for a digital marketing agency. This was my first role in a sales consultant, I found the position very exciting and I enjoyed all the aspects of working in a sales capacity. Unfortunately I didn’t enjoy the working environment and worked all hours for very little reward; in terms of money and recognition within the business. It was a small boutique business with no progression; however, it was my first sales role and I wanted to try my very best to make it a success.

Before joining us did you have any preconceptions about the recruitment sector?

I did have reservations of the recruitment sector, especially with a reputation of being extremely high pressured with rigid working environments.

If so were they accurate?

Upon joining Rethink, I was so surprised. The atmosphere is really supportive and friendly and I immediately felt that I have found an environment that I had been looking for.

How was the transition to working for a recruitment company?

I had all the right help as a junior recruitment consultant, a thorough training programme in my first 12 months really helped me transition into a confident recruiter. After that, the sky is my limit! What also helps and inspires me is working with very experienced contract and permanent recruiters every day. By learning from their experience and skills, I can use and adopt them to help me evolve and some day, I hope people look up to me for the same guidance one day.

What attracted you specifically to ReThink Recruitment?

True to being a sales person, the commission scheme attracted me along with being able to work with an office of senior recruiters which I could learn from. The trainee programme which was in place and most importantly the culture which was very trusting, with fun and successful people to work with.

Tell us about your role before joining ReThink

I was working for a Business Directory company as an outbound sales consultant selling advertising space for online and paper based directories, making circa 300 calls per day to prospective clients.

Before joining us did you have any preconceptions about the recruitment sector?

I had always imagined recruitment as a very harsh sales environment, it always had that air of being very cut-throat and a somewhat frowned upon career choice

If so were they accurate?

In the case of Rethink absolutely not, in fact it couldn’t be further form the truth, Rethink is an extremely grown up environment where you really are the master of your own destiny, you effectively run a business within a business

How was the transition to working for a recruitment company?

I expected it to be fairly tough, but I was given the right training and the fact I was making so many phone calls a day in my previous role set me in extremely good stead for this job, it is not to forget a telephone based job as well although it has many more aspects to the role that make it much more enjoyable as well as the opportunity to earn better money than any other sales job

What attracted you specifically to ReThink Recruitment?

The word ‘culture’ gets banded about far too much, but it really is something special within Rethink. You are trained in the a way that best suits you rather than ‘a 1 size fits all’ mentality and support is given every step of the way. There is also fantastic opportunities for career advancement and Rethink always look to recruit within when advertising a new post.

The people are also a fantastic asset to Rethink and after meeting many of them whilst interviewing you get the feeling you are really joining something very special.
