Due to Covid, children’s reading in school and at home will be a little different. All of the children will be issued between 1 – 3 books on a Friday. They will read these books at home and return them to school the following Friday along with their reading record books.
The expectation is for the children to have read at least four times a week at home. This does not always have to be in the form of a book – if you are out shopping encourage your children to read road signs or labels on packages in the supermarket, instructions if you are cooking together, sit and look at a newspaper or even instructions on a video game!
The children will still be able to access accelerated reader at home to complete the quizzes to build up their word counts with the ultimate goal of becoming a ‘reading millionaire’.
Within school we now have two reading sessions every day and one of these is to encourage the enjoyment of reading with the children.

Spellings• In year 3 we follow the PiXL spelling scheme which teaches a
spelling ruler per week in 3 short sessions.
• Details of the rule your child is being taught in school will be sent
out termly and supporting powerpoints can be found on the school
website.
• Termly spelling test of all rules to show progress.

Current Learning
To carry on from the fantastic learning that the children were doing in year 2
before covid, they will be completing some maths, GPS and reading quizzes
so that we can identify the points that the children are at. This will then
inform our planning for the week.
The children will also have three formal assessments throughout the year
using our PIRA and PUMA schemes.
