2018 NGBT announces
NextGen Genomics, Biology, Bioinformatics and Technologies (NGBT) Conference to be held from Sep 30th to Oct 2nd in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India, is organized by SciGenom Research Foundation (SGRF), a not-for-profit organization working to promote Science, Research & Education in India and rest of Asia.
The NGBT conference is jointly hosted in collaboration with Toronto Recombinant Antibody Centre (TRAC), Toronto, Canada, Birla Institute of Scientific Research (BISR), Jaipur, India, Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS), Jaipur, India, Eternal Heart Care Centre & Research Institute (EHCC), Jaipur, India, SMS Medical College Hospital (SMSMC), Jaipur, India and Institute of Bioinformatics (IOB), Bengaluru, India. Nature Genetics, Nature, Nature titled journals, EMBO Press and Science – AAAS Journals are the 'Knowledge Partners & Poster Prize Sponsors' for 2018 NGBT. This is the eighth international conference hosted by SGRF Conferences, the educational outreach arm of SciGenom Research Foundation (SGRF), along with national and international institutes.
The 2017 NGBT conference was attended by over 1000 delegates from India and various parts of the world. There were 18 keynote lectures and 84 talks over the course of three days. The conference also featured over 280 posters and 10 poster awards. The 2017 NGBT conference scholarships and travel awards supported 150 students towards their expenses fully or partially, for attending the meeting. SGRF also announced four genomics project grant winners who will get support for their research work.
The 2018 NGBT conference will showcase and promote application of NextGen sequencing and genomics technologies for basic and translational sciences in all areas of biology including human genetics, drug discovery, clinical medicine, biomarkers, diagnostics, animal, plant and agricultural sciences. It will also cover basic biology, cellular signalling, cancer and plant biology. We expect over 1000 delegates. The conference, as in the past, is designed to provide a forum for scientists and students to share their work, build new connections and explore collaborations.

India is home to over 270 species of snake and 60 of these are venomous. Snake as a species is about 150 million old and have roamed the planet since the Jurassic period. They have evolved and optimized their venom to hunt their prey effectively. Modern human a recent product of evolution have been around for 200,000 years and are not a natural prey for snakes. However, snakebites can be lethal. It is no more true than in India where over a million snakebites occur annually and over 50,000 people die of snake bites.
Since 1896, snake anti-venom has been developed using horses. While the horse-derived anti-sera are effective, given the numerous snake species and the geographical variation even with the same species, the antivenoms often do not work effectively. Also, timely access to anti-venom and cost remain unsolved. With the rapid changes in genomics technologies it is possible to rapidly understand the snakes and also develop anti-venom using recombinant technologies. In parallel several effort are underway to create awareness about snakebites and how to seek proper help.
This "Live and Let Live: Snakebite Cure Symposia" is organized by SciGenom Research Foundation (SGRF), a not-for-profit organization, at the 2018 NextGen Genomics, Biology, Bioinformatics and Technologies (NGBT) conference. It will feature world leaders trying to tackle the issues associated with Snakebites from both a Scientific and Social perspective.

Jaipur, India Jaipur is the largest city in Rajasthan and was built in the eighteenth century by Sawai Jai Singh as India's first planned city. Jaipur is a major tourist attraction amongst Indian as well as international travellers. It belongs to the tourist Golden Triangle of Delhi, Jaipur and Agra. It hosts several attractions like the City Palace, Govind Dev ji Temple, Vidhan Sabha, Birla Temple, several massive Rajput forts and so on. It also serves as a stepping stone for travelers heading to the desert cities of Jodhpur and Jaisalmer.
Jaipur gets its name from its founder Maharaja Jai Singh II (1693-1744) the great warrior and astronomer. He came to power at the age of 11 on the death of his father Maharaja Bishan Singh. Jai Singh’s lineage can be traced back to the Kucchwaha Rajput clan who came to power in the 12th century. They were long-term rivals to the Sisodia Rajputs who ruled from Mewar. This rivalry led them to ally with Mughals, and resulted in them eventually gaining a pre-eminent position in Rajasthan.
Jaipur is often called the Pink City in reference to its distinctly colored buildings, which were originally painted in this color to imitate the red sandstone architecture of Maugham cities. The present earthy red color originates from repainting of the buildings undertaken for a visit of Prince of Wales in 1876.
