Miss L. van Rhijn - 2V Class TeacherMrs B. Herborn - KH Class Teacher

This term, Kindergarten have enjoyed learning about toys and movement. Students have had such fun with the focus on toys - and not just in Science.

We are also letting toys come alive through stories and dramatic play to learn about imaginative writing.

This term, KH’s class toy Koko the Koala has visited each home and all students have contributed to our fantastic journal of Koko’s Adventures.

Take a look at some of the things Koko has gotten up to.

Who knows what else your toys might do when you aren’t there...

The year is 1877… you are running late for school. You race towards your classroom and line up in your single-gender lines. Your teacher makes her way down the lines and you place your hands out to be inspected for cleanliness. You pass!

This is the type of educational experience that Year 2 had on their excursion to the SchoolHouse Museum in North Ryde. They went back in time to learn what school was like for children in the 1880s! Some of the activities were a treasure hunt to observe artifacts from schooling in the past, examining children’s toys and games, maypole dancing, calligraphy writing and examining photographs of early school children and comparing it with our present day.

Below are some pictures and comments of favourite experiences.

All of it was really fun... but I liked when we did the cursive writing because it showed us how they used to write and how much time they spent on perfecting their handwriting – Annie

I enjoyed the first group because I liked seeing and playing with the old artifacts and toys. It was fascinating to experience school life in the past – Nadine

My favourite part of the day was the Maypole dancing. We got to grab hold of a ribbon and skip around the pole to make a beautiful pattern. It was interesting to learn that they did this at Sports Carnivals back then - Hasan

Miss S. Alexander - 3T Class Teacher

3T have become STEM masters as they showcase their creative and crafty skills. They studied famous bridge structures to determine which designs served different purposes. After planning and measuring resources, bridges of all types were made. We tested the sturdiness of each one and evaluated the results of different designs. 3T also explored the concept of pinball machines and created their own versions. Their designs included challenging obstacles and various point systems!

Stage 3 News (Years 5 & 6)

Mrs N. Remenyi - 5R Class Teacher

This term Year 5 have been studying bushfires. We have been looking at major bushfires like to current fire in California as well as fires in Australia. We learnt about Black Saturday which consisted of 400 fires and burnt 450 000 hectares of bushland in central Victoria. This was one of Australia’s worst bushfires.

Looking at bushfires inspired us to write poetry about bushfires and to create a piece of work on bushfires showing burnt trees in the sunset.

Yousif S, Evie M and Yukimi N 5R

Bushfires

The area was really, really dry,Then smoke began to fill the sky.A little later the bushfire came,

And all I saw was a massive flame.

This bushfire was already a disaster,And it was continuing to get faster.

It really was a terrible fire,But the flames were still rising higher.

Eventually things started becoming ask,But it was too late to make a dash. Finally the rage reached the end,And it was time to start to mend.
