Dear Student,
Welcome to King’s College for the 2019 school year and beyond. We look forward to working with you in the coming years as we offer to you a top quality education, along with a life membership to King’s College.
It is an exciting time to be a part of King’s as we have launched into a new era of teaching and learning with a clearly defined philosophy. It is dedicated to ensuring you are equipped with the skills and resources to achieve “the best all-round education it is possible to attain” and to be successful in, what will be for you, a very dynamic future.
Our House system is fundamental to our pastoral support at King’s. Each House provides the sense of belonging and inclusion within our College, no matter whether you are a Boarder or Day student. I know you will enjoy being a part of your House at the College.
Integral to our model of pastoral support is our Chapel, the physical and spiritual heart of the College. This value-rich culture allows you to develop essential life skills and experience to ensure your future success.
I hope you will take advantage of the opportunities that we make available here for you across the academic, spiritual, cultural and sporting spheres. I encourage you to involve yourself as much as possible into our College life. It has much to offer. The more you involve yourself, the more you’ll gain from the experience.
Virtus Pollet.
Simon Lamb Headmaster, King’s College

E-Learning technology requirements
Our e-learning programme is founded on the premise of 1:1 personal ownership and use of a computer: in 2019 all students will be required to have an iPad for their school work. The College has built incrementally to this over the past six years, following an initial pilot programme with a single Year 9 class in 2012, and reaching all year levels in 2017.
We believe that the iPad makes this 1:1 computer ownership goal achievable, given its compact design, long battery life, portability, accessibility, reliability, ease of use and functionality, and the ready availability of educational apps, digital books and services. It is an ideal tool with which to facilitate learning in an information-rich environment in all subjects.
There are three iPad models currently available: • 9.7” iPad
• 11” iPad Pro
• 12.9” iPad Pro
We recommend the iPad Pro in the Senior School (Years 12–13).
For more information regarding the iPad Programme and computer requirements, visit www.kingscollege.school.nz/admissions/digital-technology-requirements on the College website.
If you have any queries, please contact:
Stuart Mainwaring, Director of Information Services. [email protected] or +64 9 276 0600.
The King’s College Parent Portal is an online tool that allows parents/guardians to view a wide range of information regarding their son/daughter’s daily life at the College.
It enables parents/guardians to access details on their son/daughter’s academic and pastoral progress, their timetable, and contact information for teaching staff. It also gives parents/guardians the ability to update contact details for both themselves and their son/daughter, which can be done in the ‘My Account Details’ tab, shown below.
A unique username and password will be emailed to parents/guardians shortly before the start of Term 1 2018. Parents/Guardians can log on to the Parent Portal via the Parent Portal tab on the header on any page of our website, www.kingscollege.school.nz.
We hope that parents/guardians will find the Parent Portal a valuable tool in supporting their son/daughter’s education at King’s College.
