OverviewNetWorker Runtime Environment (NRE) installer package provides the Java RuntimeEdition (JRE) package that is required for NetWorker Server, NetWorkerManagement Web UI, and, NMC. The NRE package installs the following files on thesystem:

l Java Runtime Environment

l Java application to launch NMC.

Dell EMC recommends you to use NetWorker Runtime Environment. However, youcan launch NMC by using a licensed JRE 8.

Installation PackageNetWorker Runtime Environment installation is supported on x64 Linux and Windows.

You can download the NRE software from https://www.dell.com/support.

Note

If you are upgrading NetWorker to the latest version, you can continue to use theexisting JRE. If you want to remove JRE, ensure that you do so after installing NREand upgrading the NetWorker software.

Java Requirements for NetWorkerThe installation for the NetWorker software checks for the required Java version on ahost. When the processor script does not detect the minimum required Java version(64-bit) on the host, the installation cannot continue. Before you start the NetWorkerinstallation or upgrade, install the Java provided in NetWorker Runtime Environmentor the latest version of the 64-bit Java 8 or Java 9 on the host.

NetWorker has a dependency on NRE or JRE to run NetWorker and launch NMCapplication .

Note

NRE and JRE both can be installed on the system. They do not create a conflict in thesystem.

Installing NetWorker Runtime Environment on WindowsYou can use NetWorker Runtime Environment on windows to launch NetWorkersoftware.

Procedure

1. Download the NetWorker Runtime Environment software package from theOnline Support website to a temporary location.

2. In the directory that contains the unzipped NetWorker software, run the nre-win-8.0.1.msi.

3. In the Welcome Wizard page, click Next.

4. In the EULA page, select I agree to the license terms and agreements, and thenclick Next.

5. To accept the default installation location C:\Program Files\NRE, clickNext.

Optional: If you want to launch the NMC application from this system thenselect the checkbox to create a shortcut for NetWorker Runtime Environmentlauncher on the desktop.

6. To proceed with installation, click Install.

7. To complete the installation, click Finish.

Results

NetWorker Runtime Environment program is installed on the system.

Uninstalling NetWorker Runtime Environment on WindowsThe uninstallation of NetWorker Runtime Environment on windows from the Programand Features window.

Procedure

1. From the Control Panel, select Program and Features.

2. On the Program and Features window, select NetWorker RuntimeEnvironment.

3. Click Uninstall.

A warning message is displayed.

4. Click Yes to complete the uninstallation.

Results

The NetWorker Runtime Environment is uninstalled from the system.

Installing NetWorker Runtime Environment on LinuxYou can install NetWorker Runtime Environment on linux to launch NetWorkersoftware.

Procedure

1. Connect to the host with the root account.

2. Download the NetWorker Runtime Environment software package from theonline support website to a temporary location.

3. To install the NetWorker Runtime Environment software, run one of thefollowing command:

l To install the NetWorker Runtime Environment software in the defaultlocation /opt/nre, type: rpm -ivh nre-linux-8.0.1.rpm.

l To install the NetWorker Runtime Environment software in an alternativelocation, type: rpm -ivh --relocate /opt/nre=/path nre-linux-8.0.1.rpm

The message NOTE: To complete configuration execute thefollowing script :/opt/nre/nreconfig.sh is displayed.

Note

/opt/nre/nreconfig.sh is the default path.

4. To configure the NRE, run the nreconfig.sh script.

Uninstalling NetWorker Runtime Environment on LinuxYou can uninstall NetWorker Runtime Environment software by using rpm -e nrecommand.

Procedure

1. Connect to the host with the root account.

2. Remove the byNetWorker Runtime Environment using the rpm -e command:rpm -e nre

Results

The NetWorker Runtime Environment is uninstalled from the system.

Launching NMC Application

Launching NMCYou can launch the NMC by using the NMC launcher application that is installed withNetWorker Runtime Environment.

Procedure

1. Run the NMC launcher java application.

2. You can choose one of the following option to launch the NMC:

l In the Connect to NMC Server option, in the Enter NMC Server IP/Hostname field, type the IP address of the NMC server and in the EnterPort No field, type the NMC HTTPS port number. The default port numberis 9000.

l If you are launching NMC from Data Protection Central, then select BrowseJNLP file option and upload the downloaded JNLP file.

3. Click Connect to launch the NMC application.

Enabling Java Console and Clearing CacheYou can clear the cache from the Java Control Panel.

Procedure

1. Open Run and enter the launch the javacpl binary.

The javacpl binary is located in <NRE Install Path>/java/jre1.8.0_211/bin/javacpl location.

2. To clear the cache, Select General Tab and click Temporary Internet Files forclearing the cache.

3. To enable the Java console, select Advanced tab and click Show console.

NRE Log filesYou can use the launcherLogs.txt to debug the issues with NRE.

The log levels can be defined in the logConfig.properties file located in <NREInstall Path>/logs/logConfig.properties. The default log level is“WARNING”.

Note

If you enter invalid log level, then the log level will be reset to “WARNING”.
