EXPLORING RALEIGH

A capital place to live.

by Catherine Fain

Raleigh, the state capital, is centrally located

and offers easy access to both the beautiful

beaches and stunning mountain vistas on

either end of the state. The city boasts a

growing downtown, excellent museums and

cultural organizations, 4,300 acres of parks, and

is home to some of the state’s top colleges

and universities. Raleigh has consistently

topped the “Best Places” lists from publications

ranging from

Forbes and

USA Today to

Rolling Stone

in both business and lifestyle categories. While

known for being more of a tech hub, Raleigh

is also a cultural center with an abundance

of distinctive dining, arts and entertainment

options. The North Carolina Opera, North

Carolina Symphony and the Carolina Ballet

are all based in Raleigh, as well as the North

Carolina Museum of Art, the North Carolina

Museum of History, the North Carolina

Museum of Natural Science and Marbles Kids

Museum. Raleigh is also home to NHL Stanley

Cup-winning team, the Carolina Hurricanes and

men’s pro soccer team, the Carolina RailHawks.

Each fall the State Fair comes to town, a

nostalgic celebration of agriculture, food and

family fun, at the

sprawling N.C. State

Fairgrounds. The city

is full of shopping

options ranging from well-known retailers to

locally owned shops and upscale boutiques, the

Raleigh Flea Market and a number of antique

shops. Raleigh is conveniently located next to

Research Triangle Park and RDU International

Airport.

EXPLORING KNIGHTDALEAND ZEBULON

A sense of community and laid-back lifestyle are

the hallmarks of the towns of eastern Wake County.

by Catherine Fain

Just a few short miles from downtown Raleigh, the towns of Eastern Wake offer laid-back living

alongside the convenience of being located close to the city. Knightdale and Zebulon offer

excellent value and a warm, tight-knit sense of community to its residents. Zebulon’s central

business district is surrounded by quaint historic residential neighborhoods that feature a mix of

Victorian, Craftsman and Colonial Revival style homes, as well as six community parks. Perfect for

families and architecture buffs alike! Zebulon is also home to Five County Stadium, where you can

catch a game and watch the Triangle’s Single-A minor league baseball team, the Carolina Mudcats,

during the warmer months. There is plenty to do in nearby Knightdale as well. The town is home

to the Knightdale Environmental Park, which is certified as a Backyard Habitat by the National

Wildlife Federation, as well as Knightdale Station Park which features a playground, athletic fields,

an amphitheater and over two miles of walking trails. Be sure to visit the Knightdale Farmers’

Market, open May through October, for fresh produce, live entertainment and even food truck

rodeos. These lovely communities are a quick commute to Research Triangle Park and have easy

access to RDU International Airport.

EXPLORING WAKE FORESTAND ROLESVILLE

Its quaint charm and convenience have made the

Wake Forest/Rolesville area one of the fastest-growing

suburbs in the country.

by Catherine Fain

The Wake Forest/Rolesville area is located just north of Raleigh. Wake Forest was the original

home of Wake Forest University for 122 years before it moved to Winston-Salem in 1956.

Neighboring Rolesville has deep roots in the Triangle, as it is Wake County’s second oldest town.

Historic downtown Wake Forest is a walkable, charming spot to spend an afternoon perusing

local art galleries, coffee shops and boutiques, and each Saturday throughout the year plays host

to the Wake Forest Farmers’ Market. For the sports enthusiast, The Factory offers ice rinks, a

skate park, indoor soccer, an inflatable playground, miniature golf and go-carts as well as great

restaurants for those less athletically inclined. The Heritage Golf Club offers a challenging, yet

player friendly American links-style course designed by world-class architect Bob Moore of JMP

Golf Design Group. The Wake Forest/Rolesville area has been one of the fastest-growing suburbs

in the country, and continues to be a popular choice among residents seeking a small town feel

and convenient access to Raleigh or Research Triangle Park.

…Oh the stories they would tell. Those first steps. The first kiss. New friendships cemented during a walk with the dog. For more than a decade we’ve intentionally crafted a community lined with friendly sidewalks made for

living amongst greenways, golf, playgrounds, pools and streets meant for conversation and play. We’ve built sidewalks for storytelling. Ready to write the next chapter?

EXPLORING HOLLY SPRINGSAND FUQUAY VARINA

These towns are springing to life with culture.

by Catherine Fain

Both Fuquay-Varina and Holly Springs have historic significance due to their natural springs, which would attract visitors as they travelled; the mineral springs of Fuquay were even said to have healing powers! Today both towns continue to attract residents with their small town charm, and both continue to quench visitors’ thirsts with their thriving craft brewing communities. Fuquay-Varina prides itself on having the perfect mix of modern amenities and vintage charm with its walkable, family friendly downtown areas and strong small business community. Fuquay-Varina boasts a growing arts scene with events including Art After Dark, Celebration of Arts in June or the En Plein Air Paint-off in April, all local favorites and highlights of the year. Holly Springs plays host to concerts and film viewings year-round at the Holly Springs Cultural Center, and attracts Triangle fishing enthusiasts to the 100-acre Bass Lake Park & Retreat Center. The Holly Springs Veterans Park, dedicated to the men and women who have served our country in the military, features a 4.3-acre pond, a half-mile trail around the pond and more. These communities are just minutes away from Raleigh, and an easy commute to Research Triangle Park.
