Welcome,The NDSCS Alumni/Foundation is committed to the encouragement and

support of academic excellence at NDSCS. As a 501(c)3 organization

the Foundation’s mission is to “Support and assist those activities that

develop and strengthen the North Dakota State College of Science.” The

NDSCS Alumni Association has been active on campus since 1903 and

the NDSCS Foundation was established in 1986.

Scholarships have been a core part of students attending NDSCS for

many years. The NDSCS Foundation Scholarship Program was created for

the purpose of attracting and retaining students of outstanding ability.

This is possible due to the generous support from alumni, community

and business friends, staff and faculty. There are many different types

of scholarships available from the NDSCS Foundation. The NDSCS

Foundation provides academic, athletic, performing arts, technology and

service, science and business, and general scholarships.

As a student receiving these scholarships, we invite you to learn more

about the person, business or families that gave so generously to help

you with your financial load. This booklet gives you a very brief overview

of the kind of generosity that has taken place over the years.

As a Donor, thank you for your contributions and the selfless act you

and your loved ones have shown by contributing to an Endowment or an

annual scholarship. Student need for financial assistance has grown over

the years. Your commitment and support does not go unnoticed.

The NDSCS Foundation is proud of the number of academically and

technically talented students who enter the College each year. We are

proud to say that our scholarship process allows for over half of all

students that apply to obtain some sort of scholarship annually.

GENERAL SCHOLARSHIPSScholarship Criteria

Alex Stern Family Foundation ScholarshipThe Alex Stern Family Foundation is based in Fargo, N.D. It supports nonprofits through scholarships to students attending surrounding colleges in Cass or Clay counties.

FT student from Cass or Clay County, maintain a 2.0 GPA.

Alfred Leland EndowmentDarlene H. Leland established a scholarship in her husbands memory for students of high scholastic standing with financial need. Alfred was a 1940 Pre-Education graduate. They lived on a farm in Richland County.

FT student, 3.0 GPA. U.S. citizen.

Darlene Stevens Simonitch EndowmentDarlene Stevens Simonitch and her husband, Jack, both attended NDSCS between 1948-1951. Darlene was a 1949 Liberal Arts graduate and Jack played basketball for the Wildcats under coach Ed Werre. Darlene passed away in 2002 and Jack in 2014.

Female student with good citizenship and financial need.

Donald Merritt EndowmentDonald S. Merritt was 1939 NDSCS graduate of Accounting. He passed away in 1995.

Student is resident of Richland County, basis on need and character.

Dr. Clair T. Blikre Memorial EndowmentDr. Clair T. Blikre was the 6th President at NDSCS. He served as President for 31 years from 1966-1987. The NDSCS activities center is named Clair T. Blikre Activities Center in his honor.

FT 2nd year student from N.D. and a N.D. high school graduate. Based on GPA.

Ellen (Dahl) Hill EndowmentEllen I. (Dahl) Hill was a Wyndmere, N.D. resident. She and her husband were successful farmers, she was active and generous to many organizations in Richland County, N.D. Her son Harvey was Alumnus of the Year in 1997.

Any student of NDSCS.

Fred Radloff Memorial EndowmentFred and Rose Radloff operated a Locker Plant in Hankinson for 26 years. Rose was a 1917 Business graduate and the 1982 Alumna of the Year. They donated land in southern Richland County, the cash rent proceeds from the land sale established this scholarship.

Fred, Marie & Edna Hudson EndowmentEdna Hudson was the daughter of Fred and Marie. She was handicapped but that did not stop her from being very active and involved in her church and community. Edna passed away in 2007 at age 78. The scholarship was set up to assist special needs students.

Awarded to FT students with special needs. Preference to Richland, 2nd Sargent, 3rd Wilkin County. 2.0 GPA.

Henry C. Bonde Memorial EndowmentHenry C. Bonde was married to Helen in Sisseton, S.D. in 1966. They enjoyed traveling and spending time at their lake home on Lake Lida, Minn. and their winters in Apache Junction, Ariz. They left a trust to NDSCS for student scholarships.

Herman Liberda Memorial EndowmentHerman Liberda was an administrator at NDSCS for 23 years. He was director of Residential Services upon retirement. Helping students was always a primary concern for Herman.

FT resident of Minn., N.D. or S.D. 2.0 GPA.

Hexem Family EndowmentAlvin M. Hexem was a 1950 graduate of NDSCS in Ag Mechanics Sales and Service. He was a long time farmer in the Williston, N.D. area. He passed away in 2003.

Student from Western N.D. or Eastern Mont. with financial need.

KB & Esther Wieman EndowmentThe KB and Esther Wieman Trust established a scholarship in 1991. KB passed in 1989 and Esther in 2006. The scholarship continues to build from a unitrust that was set up by KB and Esther. Neither were graduates of NDSCS, but had a strong belief in two year education in the state of North Dakota. They lived most their lives in Minot, N.D.

2nd year students who plan to live and work in N.D. 3.5 GPA.

Kenneth & Marie Hansen Trust EndowmentIn 1995, Kenneth H. Hansen and Marie Hansen established a charitable remainder unitrust naming NDSCS the beneficiary. The funds from the estate were to be utilized in a scholarship. Kenneth passed away in 1997 and Marie in 2007.

FT or PT 1st or 2nd year student with financial need.

Laura Hughes Memorial EndowmentR.J. Hughes established this scholarship in 1968 in honor of his wife, Laura Hughes. Mr. Hughes was a graduate of Red River Valley University, now known as NDSCS. R.J. and Laura were married in 1943 and together they founded Rosemeade Pottery in Wahpeton. Mrs. Hughes died in 1959.

Leonard Johnson EndowmentLeonard Johnson graduated from the Basic Machinist program at NDSCS in 1939. He was a life long resident of the Devils Lake area and worked the family farm with his brother, Earl.

FT student with 2.0 GPA.

Margaret Oleson Memorial EndowmentMargaret “Pebby” Fischer Oleson was a 1949 NDSCS graduate in Liberal Arts. She was an elementary school teacher and passed away in 1998. She had a daughter, Jeri Lee and son, James.

FT student. 1st Richland County, 2nd N.D., 3rd Minn. or S.D. 2.0 GPA. Women preferred. Meets NJCAA regulations.

Marvin Ouse EndowmentMarvin Ouse and his wife Ella were farmers near Breckenridge, Minn. for 44 years. He believed in NDSCS and the assistance the Ag/Diesel Departments provided for farmers.

FT older than average student showing genuine interest.

NDSCS Bookstore EndowmentNebraska Book Company operated on campus from 2010-2015, they gave some of the proceeds of the bookstore to help benefit student scholarships. The NDSCS Bookstore continues to support students with this endowment.

Any student with a 2.5 GPA.

NDSCS Capital Campaign EndowmentIn 2003, NDSCS embarked upon a capital campaign to raise $3-$4 million to help fund an endowment for scholarships, instructional equipment and technology enhancements, and classroom facility renovations.

FT or PT 1st or 2nd year student enrolled in any NDSCS program. 2.0 GPA.

NDSCS Memorial Foundation EndowmentThis scholarship is funded through donations made to the NDSCS Alumni Foundation, in memory of those that have passed.

FT 2nd year student. Based on GPA and activities.

NDSCS Student AssistantThe NDSCS Student Assistant scholarship was established to benefit student lab and teacher assistants here on the NDSCS campus.

Student's working as student assistants throughout a variety of programs.

NDSCS Student Government (CAB)CAB, our Campus Activities Board, is a group of students that take on campus events and student activities through out the year.

2nd year student, based on participation and commitment to student activities.

NDSCS Student Government (Senate)NDSCS is proud to have a strong student body government. Student Senate is the voice of over 3,000 campus wide students. Funds have been raised over the years to be able to give scholarships to those students that serve.

Student must serve on the Student Senate.

Odin & Hazel Stutrud EndowmentOdin Stutrud was a 1941 NDSCS graduate of Printing/Graphic Arts and was an instructor in the NDSCS Printing Department for 13 years. In 1971, Odin was named Technical Education/Coordinator for the state of North Dakota. He also served as an executive director of the American Technical Education Association. Odin was a recipient of the 1991 Wildcat of the Year award. He established this scholarship in memory of Hazel, his wife of 64 years. Hazel passed away in 2008 and Odin in 2015.

Preference to McKenzie County, on-campus student with financial need.

Otter Tail Power Company ScholarshipOtter Tail Power is an investor owned electric utility that provides electricity for customers in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota with headquarters in Fergus Falls, Minn. Otter Tail Power Company’s mission is to connect with their rural communities to support young minds, invest in their current and future workforce and create vital communities.

Must be in Otter Tail Power service area and have been a customer for two years. 2.0 GPA.

Paul C. Green Memorial EndowmentDuring the 1980’s Mayme Green initiated a student scholarship fund, giving NDSCS over $20,000 for scholarships. Her sincere desire to help young people’s advancement in education led to her appointment to the NDSCS Foundation Board of Directors. She served on the board from 1988-1991 and was honored in 1985 as Homecoming Parade Grand Marshal. In one of her most remembered comments, she reflected the importance of education, saying, “our young people are our greatest potential - what better investment can we make.” The current Mayme Green Allied Health Center was dedicated in her honor in 1999. This scholarship is named after her late husband Paul C. Green. She carried on her late husband’s educational philanthropy and established a private foundation before her death to award gifts to education centers like NDSCS.

Percy G. Willson EndowmentPercy G. Willson was a former Wimbledon and Leal area farmer. He made his money in North Dakota and designated his estate to go to state organizations that help young people. Mr. Willson passed away in 1988.

1st year and transfers. AAA: Skills USA based on GPA. Show financial need.

President’s Honor EndowmentThis scholarship was established to recognize students with top honors at NDSCS. Each year President’s honor endowment is awarded by our NDSCS president.

1st year, FT student from N.D. or adjacent state. Minimum ACT 20.

Randall S. Curry EndowmentRandall S. Curry was a native of Steele County, N.D. where he operated the family farm in Hope, N.D. He chose NDSCS for this scholarship because he believes in two-year educational institutions and the programs they offer. Randall left a generous and everlasting gift, one of the largest received by NDSCS. His benevolent spirit for helping North Dakota youth receive an education is commendable.

Reynold F. Hovel "Punch" EndowmentReynold “Punch” Hovel was a Jesse, N.D. Griggs County resident. He and his wife, Mary, operated a store in Jesse until his death in 1981. He believed strongly in NDSCS and its quality of education.

Preference to Jesse, ND then Griggs County, then ND students.

River of Life Community Church ScholarshipRiver of Life Community Church is located in Breckenridge, Minn. They choose to support NDSCS by starting a scholarship to help reduce the cost of education for students in need.

FT student with financial need.

Rose Radloff Memorial EndowmentFred and Rose Radloff operated a Locker Plant in Hankinson for 26 years. Rose was a 1917 Business graduate and the 1982 Alumna of the Year. They have been generous supporters of the college.

Rotary Club of Wahpeton ScholarshipThe Rotary Club of Wahpeton started this scholarship to be awarded to a Richland County Rotary Student of the Month during their Junior year in high school. This is an annual scholarship.

Stanley & Sylvia Laskey EndowmentMerilynn (Laskey) Wilson established this scholarship fund in honor of her parents, Stanley and Sylvia. They spent a good portion of their married years watching “Science School” grow and prosper, Merilynn could not think of a better way to honor their memories.

FT student with financial need and shows academic promise and citizenship.

State Farm Academic ScholarshipDurlyn W. Herman, Wahpeton State Farm agent, is a long time friend of the college with a desire to give back to the success of future students. In1974 he received Friend of the College award.

FT 2nd year student from N.D., Minn. or S.D. 2.5 GPA.

Theodore Laibly Memorial EndowmentTheodore Laibly was a 1926 graduate of Accounting and Business at NDSCS. He grew up in Wahpeton and as a student worked at the Leach Library. His father was a blacksmith on Dakota Avenue. Theodore spent most of his life in Elko, Nev. as a school teacher. Mr. Laibly passed away in 2001.

Vernon C. Lee Memorial EndowmentThe Vernon C. Lee scholarship was established in 1982 by Wil-Rich Farm Equipment. Mr. Lee was a former President of Wil-Rich.

FT/PT with preference to family members of full-time Wil-Rich employees.

Virginia Olson Memorial EndowmentDr. Jerry Olson was the 7th President at NDSCS. He started this scholarship in memory of his late wife. Jerry currently works and resides in Bowling Green Ohio.

Based on GPA and good citizenship.

Wahpeton Eagles Aerie #2749 ScholarshipWahpeton Eagles Aerie #2749 is located in Wahpeton, N.D. and believes in the importance of education and helping with student success.

FT 2nd year student with good citizenship and academic promise.

Wahpeton High School Alumni EndowmentThe Wahpeton High School Class of 1955 started a fund with the NDSCS Foundation to support a scholarship for a deserving WHS graduate. At a more recent WHS All-School Reunion enough donations were added to the fund to create an endowment and receive matching state dollars.

FT 1st or 2nd year student in any NDSCS program. Graduate of Wahpeton High School.

Wahpeton Kiwanis Club ScholarshipThe Kiwanis Club of Wahpeton-Breckenridge serves the community with a variety of different projects for youth.

Preference to Wahpeton, N.D. or Breckenridge, Minn. 3.0 GPA. Academic promise and good citizenship.

Wahpeton Kiwanis – Ben Barnard EndowmentBen Barnard was NDSCS’s first Electrical instructor and was honored by having the Technical-Trade building named after him. The family of Ben Barnard has established a scholarship in his name.

GPA 3.0. Student participating in college activities. Breckenridge, Minn. or Wahpeton, N.D. high school student preferred.

Willard Grager Memorial ScholarshipWillard Grager and family are dedicated to helping talented and deserving students at NDSCS. He was Alumnus of the Year in 1970. Willard and his wife established a loan fund in honor of W.M. Nordgaard in 1964 to help students with personal expenses.

1st preference to handicapped students and to students served by rural electric co-ops.

Willis & Patricia Calderwood EndowmentWillis was a 1951 Auto Mechanics Graduate and SSS Club member. This scholarship was established in 1997.

FT first year student. 2.0-3.5 GPA 1st choice to Ramsey or Nelson County student.

Agriculture Ben J. Frolek EndowmentBen J. Frolek was a lifelong Lidgerwood farmer who believed in giving back by providing financial assistance to deserving and talented students in the Ag program.

FT 2nd year student enrolled in Ag program. 1st choice is Lidgerwood high school grad, 2nd is Richland County high school grad. GPA 3.0.

C&S Farms EndowmentChris and Suzanne Johnson established this scholarship in 2014. They are Richland County, N.D. farmers and long time friends of the NDSCS. Chris graduated in 1976 from NDSCS in the Tool and Die program and from the Agriculture program in 1978. He is a current Foundation Board Member.

FT 2nd year student enrolled in Ag Business and from a rural N.D. community (less than 10,000 population). 3.0 GPA.

Cargill ScholarshipCargill has grown to become one of the world’s largest, privately-owned businesses, providing food, agricultural, risk management, financial and industrial products and services around the globe. The local Cargill team saw the need and responded in 2012 by starting an annual scholarship to students. Cargill is also a corporate sponsor of the NDSCS Alumni/Foundation.

FT 2nd year student enrolled in Ag related program. N.D. resident with 3.0 GPA.

Don Yaggie/Tom Kotnour EndowmentDon Yaggie and Tom Kotnour were long time friends, solid leaders in the community and strong believers in education. Tom received the Friend of the College award in 2003, he passed away in 2010. Together they started this scholarship as supporters of NDSCS.

1st year student enrolled in Diesel, Agriculture or Welding. 2.5 GPA.

Dwight G. Hoxie/Robinson Brothers EndowmentRobert G. Robinson of St. Paul, Minn. established this scholarship in 1993. He was a University of Minnesota agronomist. Dwight G. Hoxie was a farmer and doctor who moved to Richland County to 1905.

FT 1st year student enrolled in Ag, Dental, Medical, Nursing, Engineering and skilled trades.

Ernest & Ruth Buchholz EndowmentErnest and Ruth Buchholz were farmers in the Casselton area for 61 years. Their son, William, was a student and NDSCS in 1992. They encouraged the pursuit of career education. Ernie and Ruth passed away in 2012.

2nd year student. One scholarship for Nursing and one in Ag/Diesel related field. N.D. student with 2.5 GPA in good standing.

Hankinson-Milnor Coop Creamery Association ScholarshipThis scholarship started in the 1980’s to benefits students in Ag Business. The co-op supports the Agricultural communities of Sargent and Richland Counties.

3.0 GPA enrolled in Ag Business. Resident of Ransom, Sargent or Richland County.

John Travers & Alyce B. Travers EndowmentJohn and Alyce Travers, from Western North Dakota, left in their estate dollars to benefit students in North Dakota and South Dakota. They also left mineral rights to the college. This endowment will continue to grow each year as long as the mineral rights are available.

Preference a student from Bowman County of N.D. or Harding County of S.D., 2nd a student from N.D. or S.D. Enrolled in Nursing/Health or Ag related programs.

Leo & Catherine Yaggie EndowmentLeo and Catherine Yaggie were successful farmers from Breckenridge, Minn. They had seven children. They received the Family Tradition award in 2000.

FT student enrolled in an Ag-related program. Preference to Wilkin County. US Citizen.

Loran Haiby ScholarshipLoran Haiby was a Breckenridge, Minn. resident who was in the Ag related industry until he retired in 2007. Loran and his wife, Marlys, have a son and daughter. Loran passed away in 2013.

FT/PT with 2.0 GPA. Preference to Wilkin/Richland County student, enrolled in a Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources program. Demonstrate a financial need.

Western Minnesota Beet Development Corp. EndowmentThis scholarship was established in 1987 as a testament to the Western Minnesota Beet Development’s belief in NDSCS and it’s students.

2nd year student enrolled in Ag Business with preference to Grant or Traverse County in N.D. Based on GPA.

William & Betty Richardson EndowmentBill and Betty Richardson have been friends of NDSCS for many years. Bill was parade Grand Marshal in 1972 and Bill and Betty were Wildcats of the Year in 1987.

Student enrolled in Ag Business. 2.5 GPA after 1st year.

Allied Health Byron & Ruth Hannay Memorial EndowmentByron J. Hannay was a successful businessman in Ottertail County. He passed away in 1984 and his wife, Ruth, passed away in 2007.

FT 2.5 GPA student enrolled in any Business Management program or any Health related field. Resident of Richland, Wilkin or Ottertail County. Volunteer 25 hours per semester.

Don Fulp Memorial EndowmentDon Fulp was a chemistry instructor at NDSCS for 31 years and believed in the importance of education. His wife, Kay, was also a Math and Science instructor at NDSCS.

FT or PT pursuing an area in pre-professions. 1st preference to Wahpeton, N.D. or Detroit Lakes, Minn. area students.




Preference a student from Bowman County of N.D. or Harding County of S.D., 2nd a student from N.D. or S.D. Enrolled in Nursing/Health or Ag related programs.

Marian L. Brown EndowmentMarian (Longbella) Brown was a 1939 NDSCS Office Administration graduate. She was actively involved in the Glee Club, Pistol Club, and Library Club while attending college. She married Dwayne Brown, 1940 NDSCS Sheet Metal graduate. They left a trust to establish student scholarships to NDSCS.

Architectural Drafting

Carl Holvick Legacy EndowmentCarl Holvick graduated from NDSCS in Architectural Drafting in 1933. He designed buildings until the day before his death in 2003. His passion will continue through this scholarship provided by his wife, Patricia, in his memory.

FT student enrolled in Architectural Drafting. N.D. or Minn. resident. Son or daughter of an alumnus of NDSCS. 2.0 GPA.

Grainger Tools for Tomorrow ScholarshipGrainger is a leading broad line supplier of maintenance, repair and operating products. In the interest of promoting students enrolled in skilled trades programs and public safety programs, Grainger started annual NDSCS scholarships in 2011.

3.0 GPA enrolled in a Technology program. Must carry at least 12 credit hours. Submit essay and letter of recommendation.

JLG Architects EndowmentJLG Architects, originally based in Grand Forks, was voted the fastest growing architecture firm by Inc. Magazine and has been in business since 1988. JLG started this scholarship to show support for students entering the Architectural program.

FT/PT enrolled in Architectural Drafting program. 2.0 GPA.

Kyle Wych ScholarshipEducation has been a passion for Kyle Wych his whole life. Kyle worked at NDSCS in the Student Life Office and served as an adjunct faculty member teaching Social and Behavioral Sciences. He also served on the Alumni/Foundation Board. While in college, he received the “Passing the Ring” award. The award included the privilege to wear a diamond ring his senior year. He would like students to have an opportunity to experience what he has experienced and complete their education.

FT student. Non-athlete and must live on campus. 2.5 GPA

Marvin Windows Annual ScholarshipMarvin Windows and Doors, a Warroad, Minn. based business is the world’s largest manufacturer of made-to-order window and door products. Marvin Windows has been a supporter of NDSCS since1988.

Northland Truss Systems Inc. EndowmentThis scholarship was given in memory of Richard Pierce, a 1977 NDSCS Architectural Drafting graduate who passed away in 2003.

Robert Coyle Memorial EndowmentJanice Coyle established this memorial endowment in honor of her husband, Robert D. Coyle.

1st or 2nd year student enrolled in Architectural Drafting. Display positive citizenship and conduct.

Bell State Bank & Trust EndowmentBell State Bank & Trust is a locally owned, independent bank established in 1996. This scholarship was started in 2014. Bell State Bank & Trust is also a corporate sponsor of the NDSCS Alumni/Foundation.

FT 1st or 2nd year student. 3.0 GPA. Enrolled in the Arts, Science and Business with preference to Banking and Finance.

Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative Founders EndowmentThis scholarship was established to honor and recognize the spirit of those who founded Minn-Dak. Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative is located in Wahpeton, N.D. and their shareholders produce sugar beets for processing. They are also the owner of Minn-Dak Yeast Co. and have a rich history that dates back to the 1970s. Minn-Dak is a corporate sponsor of the NDSCS Alumni/Foundation and was the 1996 Wildcat of the Year.

FT 2nd year student enrolled in an Arts, Science and Business program. Letter of recommendation from department chair and instructors. Shows leaderships skills. 2.75 GPA

Myron J. Koppang Memorial EndowmentMyron J. Koppang worked at NDSCS for 31 years. He was an instructor, Dean of the Business Division and later as VP of Business Affairs. He was a Scoutmaster for 23 years and very involved in his church and community. Myron was the 1999 NDSCS Wildcat of the Year.

He passed away in 2010.

Earl "Skip" Bute Athletic EndowmentEarl “Skip” Bute served NDSCS for 42 years – as an instructor, coach and Athletic Director. He was named “Small College Coach of the Year” in 1965, an honor he was very proud of. Earl retired in 1966 and pass away in 1988. The NDSCS stadium is named in his honor.

Ed Werre Basketball EndowmentEd Werre was a 1942 graduate of NDSCS. He was employed at NDSCS in 1949 as Head Basketball Coach, Track Coach and Assistant Football Coach. He was appointed Athletic Director in 1965. Ed retired in 1981 after 31 years at NDSCS and was the 1984 NDSCS Homecoming Parade Grand Marshal. He passed away in 2003.

Athletics Gordon "Pat" Patterson Athletic ScholarshipGordon was a 1938 NDSCS graduate in Accounting. He played football and was captain for two years. Gordan was an instructor for the Business Division and Assistant Coach for Skip Bute. He retired in 1978 as VP of Business Affairs. Gordon met his wife, Grace, while attending NDSCS. Gordon and Grace were the 2001 NDSCS Homecoming Parade Grand Marshals. Gordon passed away in 2012.

NDSCS Letterwinners EndowmentThe Athletic 100 Club originated in 1974 and became the NDSCS Letterwinners Club in 1981. Today it known as the Catbacker/Letterwinners Club. He started the women’s basketball program and coached men’s track and cross country until it’s final season in 2002. OJ and his wife, Dee, were Wildcats of the Year in 2002. Dee was the NDSCS Women’s Track coach and an instructor in the Secretarial/Business Department. She resides in Wahpeton and still very active in track and field to this day.

Wally M. & Alice O. Nordgaard EndowmentWallace “Wally” Nordgaard was an administrator at NDSCS from 1935-1975. He held many offices such as Director of Business Division, Director of Admissions and Director of Personnel. He was the 1973 NDSCS Homecoming Parade Grand Marshal. Wally passed away in 1994 and had three sons. A residential hall on campus was named in his honor.

Duane C. Ballweber Memorial EndowmentDuane Ballweber was a 1952 Auto Body Repair and Refinishing graduate and 1951 Homecoming King. He met his wife, Delfena, a 1951 Secretarial graduate while attending NDSCS. Duane was an instructor at the college until his death in 1985. The Ballweber family established a memorial scholarship in his honor. All of Duane’s children have close ties to NDSCS. The Ballweber family were the 2015 recipients of the NDSCS Tradition Award. Ballweber Hall was named in Duane’s honor.

Palmer started his banking career as a cashier and later became the owner and CEO at Kensington. Palmer grew up and graduated from Wahpeton High School. Lou and Palmer’s son Pryce continues to share his father’s passion for NDSCS. Palmer was named the 1985 Alumnus of the Year.

Harold will be 100-years-old in 2016, he was also the 1996 NDSCS Homecoming Parade Grand Marshal.

NDSCS Electrical Technology Partnership with Industry EndowmentIn 1997 the NDSCS Electrical Department partnered with industry to start a scholarship that would benefit student scholarships. 62 partners came together to raise over $40,000 in funds. Some of those funds were used to meet immediate needs and some was invested to start an Endowment. The Endowment started awarding electrical scholarships in 2002.

Louis Jahner EndowmentLouis Jahner was a student in the John Deere Tech program at NDSCS. He was killed in a car crash during his 2nd year. Classmates and instructors developed this scholarship in his name.

Liberal Arts Gary Reubish Memorial EndowmentGary R. Reubish, a 1969 NDSCS graduate of Architectural Drafting. Gary was a teacher at the Wahpeton High School. He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church choir, Wahpeton. He and his wife, Marcelle had four children. James passed away in 2007.

Lahren Murray Music ScholarshipJessie D. Lahren Murray was a 1932 NDSCS graduate in Secretarial. She had a lifelong love of music and played piano. She lived to be 101 and passed away in 2014.

Florence I. Lane EndowmentFlorence I. Lane graduated with honors from the LPN program at NDSCS in 1971 and worked in the field for 27 years. Florence passed away in 2008 and had six children.

John Reber Memorial EndowmentJohn attended NDSCS in 1911 taking Civil Engineering. He farmed near Foxhome and worked as a Wilkin County Surveyor for several years. John was the 1982 NDSCS Homecoming Parade Grand Marshal. This scholarship was started in 1986 in honor of John Reber who was an influential community member.

Marjorie E. Henderson EndowmentDr. Marjorie E. Henderson was a medical doctor for 30 years, 10 years in Wahpeton, N.D. She passed away from cancer in 2008. Her husband, Harvey, is an instructor in Social and Behavioral Science at NDSCS. They had two sons, Donald and Christopher.

Phyllis Hagen Kotnour Memorial EndowmentThe Phyllis Hagen Kotnour scholarship was established in 2003 by her daughter, Paige and husband, Tom. Phyllis passed away in 2002 after a short battle with leukemia.

Ashley Anderson Memorial ScholarshipPatty and Jerry Woytassek established this scholarship in memory of their daughter Ashley Ann who received her AA Degree as a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant from NDSCS. She passed away in March of 2015 leaving her husband and two daughters ages 3 and 1 week.

H. Jean & Bernard Haugen Memorial EndowmentBernard Haugen was a municipal Judge in Richland County. Jean Haugen was an Occupational Therapy Instructor at NDSCS. They lost both of their children in 1981 and 1983 in a car accident and snowmobile accident. Bernie and Jean died as a result of a car accident in 1990.

Chris Maier Family EndowmentBetty and her husband Chris Maier started this scholarship in honor Chris’s father James Maier. When Chris passed in 2007, Betty continued to fund the scholarship. In 2014 renamed the scholarship the Chris Maier Family Endowment. Betty lives on the family farm in central North Dakota. Chris was a 1953 alumni of NDSCS in Diesel and worked for Union Pacific most of his life.

Halvor & Orma Nesheim EndowmentHalvor Nesheim was a 1934 NDSCS graduate of the Electrical Technology program. He participated in the NDSCS Amateur Boxing program and won a Silver Glove in the Heavyweight Championship. Orma was a nurse. Halvor passed away in 2003 and Orma in 2010. They had four children who established this scholarship in their honor in 2006.

Pansy Reykjalin & Rose Hatling ScholarshipThe Rose Hatling Estate left a gift to NDSCS in 1992 to recognize students of NDSCS. Her sister Pansy passed in 1991 at age 82 and Rose passed in 1992 at the age of 87. They were both born in Sherwood, N.D.

Terry Lawler Memorial EndowmentTerry Lawler was a Diesel Technology graduate of NDSCS and farmed by Linton, N.D. His wife, Jeanette, started this scholarship in 2005 in his memory. Jeanette passed away in 2013. They had two daughters.

Welding Don Yaggie/Tom Kotnour EndowmentDon Yaggie and Tom Kotnour were long time friends, solid leaders in the community and strong believers in education. Tom received the Friend of the College award in 2003, he passed away in 2010. Together they started this scholarship as supporters of NDSCS.


Julian Szczur Welding EndowmentJulian Szczur graduated from NDSCS in 1941 in Welding. He was an instructor in the Welding Dept from 1945-1986. Julian was the 1997 NDSCS Homecoming Parade Grand Marshal.
