June 2020 Praise We thank God that we are now in Level 3 lockdown with further restrictions lifted on movement of persons. And we’re thankful that our children are able to go to school every second day but with very strict physical distancing protocols including face masks and symptom checks. Prayer We want to ask you to pray particularly for South Africa’s women. Pray for justice and protection. Pray for the new generation of boys that they would learn how to respect girls and women rather than rape and kill them. Gender Based Violence has skyrocketed here as a consequence of lockdown. Here is an excerpt from President Ramaphosa’s latest national address: “It is with the heaviest of hearts that I stand before the women and girls of South Africa this evening to talk about another pandemic that is raging in our country – the killing of women and children by the men of our country. As a man, as a husband and as a father, I am appalled at what is no less than a war being waged against the women and children of our country. At a time when the pandemic has left us all feeling vulnerable and uncertain, violence is being unleashed on women and children with a brutality that defies comprehension. These rapists and killers walk among us. They are in our communities. They are our fathers, our brothers, our sons and our friends; violent men with utterly no regard for the sanctity of human life. Over the past few weeks no fewer than 21 women and children have been murdered. Their killers thought they could silence them. But we will not forget them and we will speak for them where they cannot.” (Link) Continue to pray for all those affected by COVID-19. Current statistics report approximately 4000 new cases daily with over 1600 dead. The country is struggling trying to open up the economy as well as balance the inevitable loss of lives. Lifting the ban on alcohol last week resulted in a huge spike in alcohol related injuries and incidents including violence against women. Pray for people to turn to Christ in repentance and with faith, for a sure future hope.
