1. The Saturdays-NatoriousShots-For the shot task I have choosen the video "Natorious" by The Saturdays and focused onthe first minute of the video in particular focusing on the different shots used. In this minute thereis 42 different shots which is alot and could be due to the song being so fast paced. Throughoutthe video the shots change when the pace and sound of the music change and the video usesinteresting techniques to express the sounds such as the five girls walking to the beat of themusic, the lift numbers changing to the beat of the music and the general view and angle of thegirls changing each time a new instrument or beat is added. When each girl of the group has asolo part the shot usually has them as the centre focus.The number indicating the floor changes to the beat of the music duriing the music videoin some shotsWhen one of the girls are singing solo the shot changes so they are centrally focusedGenre- The Saturdays are known to be part of the pop genre which I think this song is part ofhowever it also has a dance theme to it combining the two genres. Thehyped up scenario is similar to our everyday life in the storyline with them all being bored andwanting th day to end from work but is enhanced to attract the viewer to the video by theconventions. Conventions such as high heels, big hair and designer glasses which dont reallymatch the narrative of being at work but are typical conventions and neccessary in the pop video.One of the conventions seen in this genre are high heels showing the groups confidenceand style to the audienceNarrative-At the start of the video the scene is set to be realistic to the narrative with theatmosphere being silent in the environment which would fit in the work environment and the songplalying quietly in the lift as if its the backing music which is a really clever way to relate thenarrative to the video.The singers each have roleplays at the start of the video and all work in anoffice. However the song is very fun and dancy which is a constrast between the narrative andlyrics. This could be to show the relation between the two and it is possible to bring fun into adaytime job. The typical features of the office are related to the song through certain qualitiessuch as the phone saying verse one and the stamps saying the title "Natorious". These link thenarative to the song lyrics which is a clever way as the narrative doesnt really relate to the videoitself. 3. There are clever ways in which the song relates to the narrative such as verse 1 on thephone and stamps saying "natorious"Representations-Throughout the video there are alot of female colours used throughout thevideo such as reds and pinks which could be to represent the groups girl power image and thefact that the office is very female powered. The way the girls are dressed and the way theirattitude is so confident shows that they are trying to represent that women can be and should beconfident at work. The fact the clock is shown ticking could be to represent the girls feeling ofbordom at work as well as the sighing the girls show through the different shots. The way the girlsall walk to the same beat in one shot could be to represent the robotic tendencies made generallyat work in this society. 4. The girls all walk to the beat here showing their robot tendenciesShowing a close up of the clock ticking in one shot shows the girls feeling of wanting timeto pass byAudience-The singers may have decided to take on the role of being in an office workingenvironment to relate to their audience of working women aged 20 to 30. The girls each showsimilar attitudes to how there audience may feel at work so that they are attracted to the videoand understand the girls view of not wanting to be at work. The girls may have dressed both sexyto relate to their male audience and sophisticately to relate to their main target audience offemales. The girls are very confident throughout the video which could attract the main targetaudience to the video and make them want to expire to be like the five girls making them watchthe video. 5. The girls are all dressed sexy and confidently to attract both genders of their audience.Their style and confidence attract their main target audience which is females aged 20-30.
