The NYAA Programme was
o�cially launched in
Singapore on 9th May 1992 by
H.E. President Wee
Kim Wee at the
Istana.
To develop and
maximise the potential of
young people through sel!ess community service,
challenges of adventure, skills development and
physical recreation so that they may be exceptional
individuals, who can contribute e"ectively to
society and the nation.
The NYAA
Programme was
adapted from The
Duke of Edinburgh’s
Award Scheme,
which was founded
in the United
Kingdom in 1956.

NYAA Gold· Ages 16-25
· Minimum 18 months
(For Silver Award recipients :
Minimum 12 months)
Minimum age to receive an Award:
BRONZE: 14 years old
SILVER: 15 years old (15.5 years old for
Bronze Award recipients)
GOLD: 16 years old (17 years old for
Silver Award recipients)

Purpose:
· To develop a sense of responsibility to the
community and become better citizens.
· To experience community building and
bonding through service.
· To learn by helping others.
Examples:
· Volunteering at Hospitals and Care Centres
· Helping at Senior Citizens’ Club
· Helping at Children’s Home
· Helping at Nursing Home
· Working with the disabled / handicapped
· Youth and outreach work
· Working with CDCs
· Service to school
· Charity work
· Caring for animals under
threat (SPCA, ZOO)
· Teaching free tuition
· Teaching religious education
The Challenge:
To o"er service regularly
· Gold: 60 hours spread over 12 months
· Silver: 30 hours spread over 6 months
· Bronze: 15 hours spread over 3 months

The Challenge:
Plan, train for and undertake a venture
· Gold: 4 days/3 nights
(at least 32 hours of activity)
· Silver: 3 days/2 nights
(at least 21 hours of activity)
· Bronze: 2 days/1 night
(at least 12 hours of activity)
Pre-camp training in areas of camp craft, orienteering
and �rst aid are highly encouraged.

Purpose:
· To broaden experience through
involvement with others in a residential or
community setting.
· Develop maturity, leadership, responsibility,
and a caring attitude.
The Challenge:
To undertake or initiate a project which will
serve or have a bene�cial impact on the
community at large.
· Living, eating and working with the
locals, our participants are exposed to a
culture beyond their own.
· This challenges them to exercise their
initiative, creativity and camaraderie to
bene�t the community at large. Eg: OCIPs
(Gold Award Participants)

The Award Programme celebrates personal
achievement that is measured against original
circumstances and potential capabilities.
Every participant can be a winner!
After completing the programme, participants
are invited to an award ceremony. They will
receive a certi�cate personally from His
Excellency, President of Singapore.

Getting the
enrolment form.
The enrolment form may be obtained from
mySAS.
· Log in to mySAS and click on
option NYAA.
· Click on new NYAA application
and �ll up the form accordingly.
Print, get parent’s signature.
· Bring $17 and submit form to
Ms Khoo Kim Kuan (Department of
Student Development).
Getting active.
Start signing up for activities by visiting
LIFE@SP website. http://life.sp.edu.sg.
Most of the fees in the approved
programs can be paid by your PSEA.
Receiving the
Award Diary
& Record Book.
· These two items will be issued to
you upon submission of the
enrolment form and fee.
· The Award Diary and Record Book
represent the experiences and
achievements of the participant.
They act as a record of success and
achievement.
