There are three main screens:

● Progress: see your child’s progress

● News: communicate with your teacher

If your teacher assigned homework, it will display after you sign in.

Page 11: National Geographic Learning Online Practice€¦ · National Geographic Learning Online Practice Primary Platform Guide Students/Parents Guide /($51,1* Version 01/01/2020 Table of

Version 01/01/2020

From this screen, click on a Unit to view the lessons within the unit.

6. Unit, Lessons, Activities and Games

Each Unit of a course has several lesson cards, and each lesson card has several

activities and games.

Visual indicators tell the student about their progress on each card.

Activities are represented with circles and games with stars .

Page 12: National Geographic Learning Online Practice€¦ · National Geographic Learning Online Practice Primary Platform Guide Students/Parents Guide /($51,1* Version 01/01/2020 Table of

Version 01/01/2020

White-filled circles and stars represent activities and games that have not been completed.

After activities and games are completed, they will become green circles and stars

.

You can also track your child’s progress within a lesson. If the lesson card is completely

yellow, it shows that none of the activities from the lesson have been completed.

If the lesson card contains some orange, it means that your child has completed some of

the activities and games from the lesson. If the lesson card is completely orange and has

a green check mark, it means your child has completed the whole lesson.

Page 13: National Geographic Learning Online Practice€¦ · National Geographic Learning Online Practice Primary Platform Guide Students/Parents Guide /($51,1* Version 01/01/2020 Table of

In addition, you can track progress at the unit level with the yellow progress bar under the

unit title that shows how much progress has been made in the unit.

1. Activity Types

There are several unique activity types and games. Four of them are non-scorable

activities: Flashcards, Memory, Games and Dialogue. The Done button at the end

of the activity will trigger completion of the activity and it will mark it as done in the

platform - star or circle is filled in.

If the activity has multiple screens, it is the Done button on the last screen that

triggers the completion of the activity. These activities will be represented in the

gradebook and they will always have a 0% score.

Some of the activity types include:

o Flashcards

A. Student Awards

There are two types of student awards:

● 1. Progress awards. There are three types of progress awards issued for

progress in a course:

· Blue: Award received when 1/3 of the activities have been

completed.

Page 27: National Geographic Learning Online Practice€¦ · National Geographic Learning Online Practice Primary Platform Guide Students/Parents Guide /($51,1* Version 01/01/2020 Table of

Version 01/01/2020

· Green: Award received when 2/3 of the activities have been

completed.

· Yellow: Award received when 100% of the activities have been

completed.

Each award is visible from the beginning but is covered with “slime.” The

slime progressively uncovers the hidden image the closer the student

reaches the goal in four phases:

● 25% - 49% of a course is done.

● 50% - 74% of a course is done.

● 75% - 99% of a course is done.

● 100% - All of the course is done.

Each time the image gets clearer and covered with less slime, an

encouraging message will pop up next to the progress navigation icon.

When the award is uncovered, the slime will “explode” on the screen.

● 2. Skills awards. There are three types of skills awards issued for good

performance in a course:

· Orange: For when the student has scored 100% on 20% of all the

activities in the course.

· Purple: For when the student has scored 100% on 40% of all activities

in the course.

· Red: For when the student has scored 100% on 60% of all activities in

the course.

Each award is visible from the beginning but is covered with “slime”. The “slime”

uncovers the hidden video in four phases. Each time more of the video gets

uncovered, an encouraging message pops up next to the progress navigation

icon.

After one award has been issued, the counting for the next award starts again

from 0%.

When the last blob of slime “explodes,” the award will be shown After that, the

award will display. You can close the pop-up screen, and you can always go

back and click on each of the awards received to see them in full screen.

key.
