Everyone in this room deals with technical innovations that are or can be applied to architectural systems.

Tasks for the Groups

Spend 1 hr discussing common interests and appoint research group leaders.

Decide on a name for your research group.

The research group leaders present a summary of their group’s research interests in the last ½ hr of this meeting.

When you leave today, you will have developed a strategy to put together the information for the pre-proposal (trade emails, set-up times to meet, etc.).

Needed Information

From each participant, statistics that reflects the importance of your research Provide a sentence along with the statistics including the citation for each statistic. The statistics are compiled into a 300-500 word “Thematic Basis” that appears in the opening section of the pre-proposal.

Major Research AreaDecide on a descriptive title and a 300-500 word description.

5 to 10 Research Problems corresponding to your Major Research AreaEach problem consists of a title and several sentences that describe the problem.

CitationsThe descriptions of your major research area and the research problems include citations of your papers and of papers by others.

Core Classes

Indicate which of your classes, if any, should be considered as part of a first-semester core curriculum.

Study AbroadNames of faculty abroad along with their titles, department, college, university, and a short phrase that describes the state-of-the-art performance that the student can experience while at that university.

Industrial ImmersionNames of industry leaders to serve on the industrial board along with their titles, company name, and a short phrase that describes the industrial experience the student will receive while at the company.
