Magazine EvaluationRelevant masthead with aesthetically pleasing, albeit not particularly traditional magazine style, font.

Multiple cover lines, that discuss what is going on in the school as well as having eye catching headers. (Also designed in the schools colours so that it has that extra link to the school).

Use of a real barcode helps the magazine look more authentic.

Main image is, again, relevant to what the magazine is about (the school) and therefore is a picture of someone writing on what appears to be a test paper.

use of school logo to bring in that link to the school.

Magazine Evaluation How does this magazine use, develop or change usual conventions of a real media piece?

With this magazine, I tried to make it look as authentically like a real magazine as possible. Using a barcode, as well as the typical layout for such magazines and a catchy masthead. I believe this magazine definitely achieves it’s goal of looking like it could potentially be a real magazine within this school.

How does your media topic represent certain social groups?

This magazine, of course, represents the students in this institution, and what they may want to see within a real magazine in their school. I think that it appeals widely to almost all social groups that may exist within the school itself as it isn’t specifically for one certain group of people.

What media institution may distribute your media product & why?

It’s doubtful that a large institution would distribute a local school magazine, however, any within the vicinity of the school area may be more willing to as it is a part of their local community and therefore has a link to why they may want to distribute it. It would also make it easier to then be able to get the product to the people that it is marketed for (as it would be coming from a nearby institution rather than a long way away).

Who would be the audience?

Students that are at the school would be the target audience for this magazine, as well as potentially teachers and the guardians of those students who attend.

How did you attract that audience?

When looking at this magazine cover, it is very clearly targeted towards students at a school (in this case, Newhaven - hence the masthead for the paper). With a picture of exam papers and eye catching cover lines such as ‘what’s really going into your school dinners?’ I feel as if students at this establishment would certainly be drawn to the magazine.
