Is Cursillo for Me? If you are not familiar with Cursillo, please read the general background information provided here.

Maybe you've heard of Cursillo or know someone who has attended a Cursillo Weekend and you're wondering

if you should attend.

Do you feel something is missing in your life? Do you feel that God may be calling you to

something different? Well,

CURSILLO IS NOT an organization; it is a powerful, worldwide lay movement of the Catholic Church.

CURSILLO IS NOT just a retreat. Although the first step is a 3-day weekend, the real value begins after

attending a weekend.

CURSILLO IS an encounter with oneself, Christ, and others.

CURSILLO IS a proven method for finding solutions to the issues faced in our daily lives.

CURSILLO IS a proven method for growing and staying in a closer relationship with Christ for the rest on

our lives.

CURSILLO IS a proven method to help bring a relationship with Christ to others around you.

CURSILLO IS a proven method of sharing with others about your daily struggles and triumphs in living out

God's plan for your life.

CURSILLO IS authentically Catholic; everything is directly based on the teaching of the Catholic Church

and Scripture.

CURSILLO IS open to all stable, adult-aged Catholics who can validly receive the sacraments. It is sug-

gested that recent converts to Catholicism should wait two years to attend a weekend.

Cursillo weekends begin Thursday evening at 6:30 pm and conclude Sunday evening by 8:00 pm.

A free will donation is taken up on Sunday to cover the costs of the weekend. Scholarships are available for

those needing financial assistance.

Who Should Go On A Weekend

A Cursillo weekend is intended for those who are:

Baptized, committed Catholics

Able to receive the Sacraments of the church

Active in their parishes

Interested in examining what it means to be a Christian in today’s world.

A Cursillo weekend is of value to baptized Catholics who:

Live as Catholics, but are not presently involved in the Church

Have slipped away from the Church, but are beginning to move back

A Worldwide Movement

The Cursillo Movement has received the personal recognition and blessings of the popes, including Pope Paul

VI (who designated St. Paul as its Patron Saint), John Paul II, and Benedict XVI. The Cursillo Movement re-

ceived Canonical Recognition and approval of its statutes from the Holy See.

The Cursillo Movement has been so effective in the Catholic Church; that many other Christian denomina-

tions modeled similar programs off it. Their programs generally have names other than Cursillo, such as Walk

to Emmaus, Walk with Christ, Camino, Tres Dias, etc. Marriage Encounter, Christ Renews His Parish

(CRHP), and many other programs also modeled themselves after Cursillo. There is even a spin-off prison

ministry (Kairos); as well as for youth: Search, TEC, etc.

Following the 3-day weekend, Cursillo provides a method of perseverance to help each person find practical

solutions to the problems faced on a daily basis. The correct application of the Cursillo method will help to

provide a true and lasting peace for the rest of one's life by living out what is fundamental to being a Christian.

Personal Spiritual Renewal The parish is looking into participating in a “Cursillo”

-- a personal and communal spiritual renewal program. Sever-

al members of the parish have previously attended a Cursillo

and have found it a very positive and rewarding spiritual expe-

rience and influence in their life. A Cursillo organized for

Women will be held Thursday evening thru Sunday, October

2-5, 2014, and one for Men is available March 19-22, 2015.

If you may even be slightly interested or extremely

interested in this spiritual program, please contact the parish

office 570-265-2113 or see Fr. Ed ASAP to facilitate plan-

ning. See the facing page of this bulletin for more infor-

mation.
