    MX2 Training Program - Displaying Data Overview The MX2 data view area displays the various ultrasonic data views with

    preconfigured layouts.

     A data view is a 2D graphical representation of the ultrasonic data with a ruler orscale corresponding to the horizontal and vertical axis.

    Data views available in the MX2 are:  Ascan. !ltrasound axis vs. a"plitude axis.

    #scan. !ltrasound axis vs. scan axis.

    $scan. !ltrasound axis vs. index axis.

    %scan &' degree or linear angle( )ndex axis

    vs. scan axis.

    %scan &$scan( *ocal law vs. scan axis.

    $trip charts.

    +ay tracing.

     A layout is a preconfigured window with

    MX2 Training Program - $-scan Data %iew

    The Ascan is the source fro" which all other views are created.

    The Ascan data view is the 2D wavefor" representation of the receivedultrasonic pulse a"plitude vs. ti"e of flight.

    The MX2 uses an 8 bit &'9'' a"plitude( resolution for the digitized A

    scan and 9' bit &'2'' a"plitude( for the gate readings and %scan.

    The green a"plitude

    The higher the point @uantity the better the resolution on the Ascan.

    The point @uantity is a co"pro"ise between file size and Ascan resolution. 2'=;' points is sufficient for the "ost co""on inspections and ensures

    precision readings.

    MX2 Training Program - Displaying Data - $mplitu&e 0olor Palette The Ascan is the data view fro" which all other views are based. The #scan

    $scan7 and %scab convert a"plitude to color coded pixels based on the 2D

    views. The %scan can be configured for an a"plitude or position 2D representation of

    the Ascan data.

    The ruler to the right displays the MX2 default a"plitude color palette. ' 9''

    a"plitude vs. a scaled color palette typical of a"plitude based acceptance

    criteria.

    MX2 Training Program - Displaying Data - S-scan The MX2 $scan is a 2D end view of ultrasound data presenting all Ascans within

    the group in an angular sector or sweep range creating a cross section of the

    inspection.

    The Ascans are converted to color coded lines representing a"plitude and are

    corrected for delay and true depth relative to the ultrasonic axis.

     All infor"ation contained in the Ascan can be visualized in the $scan. ,oint

    The MX2 #scan data view represents the ultrasonic data with a proEection of the

    scan axis and the ultrasound axis for one focal law or Ascan only. The vertical ultrasound axis is generated fro" the co"plete Ascan range &Fot gate

    range( and the horizontal scan axis is generated fro" the "ove"ent of the probe.

    The #scan is an uncorrected data view that allows the s/ip lines '7 T97 etc( and

    gate position to be displayed on the data.

    !sing the A#-% layout7 a co""on weld analysis strategy is to use the data

    function /ey to display the angle selector para"eter in the upper left indication

    area and using the scroll /nob7 toggle through each angle while dyna"icallyvisualizing the #scan.

    This type of #scan analysis is particularly useful for characterizing crac/ tips and

    for separating geo"etric reflectors such as the weld root and cap fro" weld flaws.

    4hen the %scan data view is set to thic/ness &,osition %scan( the pixel

    color is deter"ined based on the position &T5*( of the signal in the gate.

    )n the exa"ple below the depth range for the thic/ness color palette is setfro" 199"" and the color palette is scaled over that range.

     A red % in the MX2 indication area indicates that "ore data points than

    available pixels exist in the %scan and one pixel "ay represent "any data

    The ray tracing data view is a 2Drepresentation of the wedge and weld

    corrected for rebounds displaying thebea" path and gate A position for thefirst7 last7 and currently active focallaw or Ascan.

    The bea" path for the current focallaw will display a colored circle at the

    volu"etric position of the "axi"u"a"plitude signal in gate A.

    The ray tracing is pri"arily areporting tool and is dependent onthe operator selecting the correct Ascan and gate position for the

    displayed flaw. The nu"ber of selected legs will li"it

    the display based on part thic/ness. The ray tracing tool is covered in

    detail in the indication table andreporting section.
