I asked the question ‘What is your favourite type of music?’ This graphs shows that 4 people (57.14%) said ‘Pop’ and 3 (42.86%) said ‘Rock’. As no one said ‘puck’, ‘alternative’, ‘country’ or ‘R&B’ I ruled these options out straight away, as they obviously didn’t appeal to my target audience. I was then left with two options and they got nearly equal amounts of votes on the survey. I researched both of these genres and decided to go with ‘pop’ because it is a quite wide genre and I knew more about it than I did about ‘rock’.

I asked the question ‘What music magazine would you be most likely to buy?’ This graph shows that 3 (42.86%) said ‘Billboard’, 1 (14.29%) said ‘Kerrang’, 2 (28.57%) said ‘Q’ and 1 (14.29%) said ‘Classic FM’. No one that took my survey (my target audience age-wise) said they would buy NME magazine, so I ignored it and looked more at Q and Billboard as they were the most popular answers. I looked into and researched both magazines and decided that I liked the look of Billboard more and that I would base my own magazine on that rather than any of the others.

Weekly

Monthly

How often to you think a music magazine should come out?

I asked the question ‘How often do you think a music magazine should come out?’ and this pie chart shows the answers everyone gave. I gave four options- daily, weekly, monthly and yearly. No one said daily or yearly, and only 2 (28.57%) people said weekly, meaning 5 (71.43%) said monthly. The results of this question along with extra research made it very obvious to me that music magazines should have monthly issues rather than weekly issues.

£1-£2 £2-£3 £3+

I asked the question ‘How much would you be willing to pay for a music magazine?’ and this bar chart shows the answers everyone gave. I gave three options, £1-£2, £2-£3 and £3+. No one said £3+, 2 (28.57%) people said £1-£2 and 5 (71.43%) people said £2-£3. This tells me that when I make my music magazine I should price it somewhere between £2-£3 because this is what most people would be expecting to pay.

What do you think is a good name for a new music magazine?

• For the last question, I asked ‘what do you think is a good name for a new music magazine?’ These are the answers people gave:

• Noise• M• Sound• Bang• Music Weekly

I think that these are all good suggestions, however as my magazine is a teen pop based magazine that is aimed at teenage girls, I don’t think that ‘Bang’ or ‘Noise’ would be appropriate as a title, as they are more associated with different styles of music. I will, however, take the other suggestions (M, Sound and Music Weekly) into consideration when creating my magazine.
