High Performance Music at Murrumba State Secondary College is designed to a�ract musically and academically talented students in our district and surrounds with the purpose of establishing a single High Performance Music Class each year.

Students in the program study a core curriculum of English, Mathema�cs, Science and SOSE, and also receive addi�onal classroom lessons of High Performance Music per week in Years 7 - 10. Students then con�nue on to Senior Music for Years 11 and 12. Addi�onally, students will par�cipate in the Instrumental and Vocal Music program by undertaking weekly lessons and par�cipa�ng in College Music ensembles such as Wind Ensemble, String Ensemble, Stage Band and The Murrumba Singers.

High Performance Music students will not only demonstrate a very high level of commitment to their Music studies, but will be expected to par�cipate in spor�ng, academic, cultural and leadership programs at the College.

ENTRY TO THE PROGRAM

Entry into High Performance Music at Murrumba State Secondary College is via the Applica�on and Audi�on Process. Prospec�ve students and families are invited to complete an applica�on form, and to a�ach the required references and documenta�on to their applica�on.

Vibrant Classroom experiences such as:

• Performance Seminars – performance of works-in-progress

• Aural musicianship skills

•• Music Technology

• Vocal and Instrumental Music lessons

External Na�onally Recognised CoursesAustralian Music Examina�ons Board courses such as:

• AMEB Music Theory (Grade 1/2/3/4 studied in-class, and online external examina�on

to be completed)• AMEB Contemporary Popular Music Curriculum - Performance

AIMS AND OUTCOMES OF THE HIGH PERFORMANCE MUSIC PROGRAMThe aim of High Performance Music is to provide a dedicated pathway of Music educa�on for students in Year 7 – 10 in prepara�on for Senior Music. Outstanding Music students are typically high achievers in other academic disciplines, and a dedicated core class of high achieving students will create an environment where musical and academic success is central to the day to day learning of students.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR MUSIC OPPORTUNITIES

A number of extra-curricular Music ac�vi�es exist at the College including Choirs, Concert Band, Stage Band, String Ensemble and Wind Ensemble. Students are also invited to join the college Tech Crew. It is mandatory for all High Performance Music Program students to be a part of at least one Instrumental Ensemble (keyboard students will play mallet percussion where needed), and/or College Choir depending on chosen instrument.

The College holds annual Arts Showcases, and a bi-annual College Musical in our state of the art Performing Arts Complex.

Moreton Youth Music Ensembles rehearse at Undurba State Primary School and are an addi�onal way to enjoy music as part of a community-based program. High Performance Music students are strongly encouraged to join these ensembles.

HIGH PERFORMANCE MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships are offered in the High Performance Music Program. A panel comprising The Principal, The Leader of Learning - The Arts, and Music Staff, will consider all successful applicants for scholarships. The balance and number of scholarships will be the responsibility of the panel. Each scholarship will be used towards educa�onal and uniform costs incurred by the student over one year of schooling at Murrumba State Secondary College. The value of the scholarship will be determined by the panel on a case by case basis.

1. Instrument specific scales are to be played for the audi�on. (See below for specified scales)

2. Two performance pieces of approximately 2 minutes dura�on.3. All vocalists are required to sing the Na�onal Anthem unaccompanied during their audi�on.
