President’s letter of introduction Welcome to the 37th Festival of Music and Art in Calne! Our Festival continues to thrive, with 37 events in the space of ten days.

As in previous years, the committee has worked hard to bring together an eclectic programme of music; chamber music, choral works, solo recitals, folk and jazz. In addition, Marden House and

the library will play host to drama, dance, poetry, and silent film. The Festival involves children from local primary and

secondary schools in drama, dance, art, and the Young Performers’ Concert evening.

For the vitality of this Festival, Calne owes a debt of gratitude to the dedicated organizers, the professional artists of all genres who call Calne home, and the many vibrant amateur groups that enrich the cultural life of the region and delight Festival audiences year on year. Please come and enjoy this wealth of music and art with us!

Alison Meardon has been a member of the BBC Symphony Chorus since 1994. She is also a member of Priory Voices, who sing at the weekend services in cathedrals around the country. Her coda has two main themes of Petals and Dreams, combining English and French song from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including Roger Quilter and Frank Bridge, Liszt, Faure and Duparc. All of these songs have a richness and an

elegance which enfold the listener (and the performer!) in a luxurious harmony.

virtuosity of the quartet the evening promises to provide the audience with an absorbing range of musical styles, making for memorable performance.
