NB: Stainless 304 (Z6CN18-9) or 316 L (Z2CND1712) recommended materials offering high resistance to corrosion. Clean conveyed liquids with fibers and containing little sand/silica (max concentration 40 g/m3). The 16m3 version is only available in 304 stainless steel.

operationElectronic speed variation  is applied  to  the asynchronous motors of the MULTI-VE cen-trifugal pumps. The goal is to regulate the speed of the AC motor by converting voltage and frequency of the mains inputs from 380 to 440 V ± 6% at 50 or 60 Hz into a three-phase voltage system with variable  frequency and amplitude.The frequency converter then makes it possi-ble to control the speed of the motor.This simultaneous action on the frequency and voltage is by means of two main elements: - a diode rectifier - a pulse width modulating inverter (MLI).

The rectifier is a diode bridge.The AC voltage conducted through the diode bridge  is converted  into a  rectified DC vol-tage. At this stage, to refine the quality of the DC voltage at  the  rectifier  output,  a  set  of capacitors and coils eliminates any residual ripple output from the rectifier.In this way, we obtain a smooth DC voltage called the “DC bus”.With this development,  the  inverter definiti-vely adjusts the voltage at the output of the variator  to optimize  the magnetizing of  the motor. The set voltage at  the  inverter  input is converted again into a variable voltage by acting as voltage pulses for a variable period of time via the transistors.

This principle is referre to as pulse width mo-dulation. These transistors are controlled by the microcontroller which activates or deacti-vates them so as to vary the frequency at the variator output.The  transistors  (IGBT:  Insulated  Gate BipolarTransistor)  therefore  operate  by  switching and act as switches to convert the DC voltage into a variable voltage. The IGBT switching activation frequency creates variable voltage and  frequency magnitudes. The  frequency must be high to eliminate the noise produce by magnetization (frequency inaudible to the human ear: 8 to 16 kHz).

operationThree operating modes can be chosen accor-ding to the application and the need. The user selects the operating mode by touch pad.On delivery, the pump is configure in Mode 1. The information can be viewed on a display.

• Mode 1 / Manual ModeThe pump is installed in the same way as a MULTI-V standard pump but offers  the pos-sibility  of manually  adjusting  its  speed  and therefore working through a range of flow.

Pressure  curves  according  to  the  needs  of the installation. From the required Q/H point, the operating frequency can be determined by means of a curve plotter.  (see  the  following pages).

operation• Mode 2 / Automatic Pump Boost System

Mode with pump alone using pressure regu-lation. The pump is installed with its pressure sensor which can attached either to the pump or on the discharge pipe.The setpoint pressure is adjusted when thepump is installed by means of the touch pad.

Operation: when the real pressure measured on the sensor drops below the set pressure, the pump starts and controls its speed to achieve the set pressure.The pump stops automatically when  it  de-tects that flow is zero or that there is a lack of water.

• Mode 3 / Use of Pump on Booster

The  frequency  variation  is managed  by  an external  control. Starting,  stopping and  the speed of rotation of the pump are controlled by a 0-10 V or 4-20 mA input signal.

A pump is represented by a network ofcurves corresponding to various frequencies(Hz) and therefore various motor rotationspeeds. The frequency is expressed as a %.(See illustration opposite).

Advice for determining pump:The NPSH of a MULTI-VE pump variesaccording to the curve on which it is placed.Therefore, it is important to know the desired set-point pressure, especially for suction pumps over a well,  and  to  take  into  consideration  the NPSH of  the pump at max frequency,  i.e. at 100% (see illustration below).The maximum suction height for this type of pump must not exceed 1 metre.

An ESV (Electronic Speed Variation) pump is represented by a network of curves showing the intermediate performances covered.

With speed variation, the power input is adapted to the H/Q need required, resulting in large energy savings.

The benefits of speed variation are once more shown by the optimum yield over a large flow rate range compared with a fixed speed pump.

b) Assembly–  Installation in an easily-reached place. For heavy pumps,  install a  lifting hook  in  line with the pump for easy disassembly.

–  Assembly on concrete block > 10 cm high with attachment by anchor bolts.

– Pump axis always horizontal.

Connection to installation by counter-flangesor victaulic fast couplings.

c) Conditioning–  Oval flange pumps: delivered with oval cast-iron  counter-flanges  for  screw-on  tubes, seals and bolts.

–  Round  flange  pumps:  delivered  with seals  and  bolts  without  counter-flanges (optional).

–  Rapid  hose  coupling  pumps  for  victaulic collars: supplied without collars (optional).
