Greetings Parents & Guardians!
Wow we are 38 days into the school year!! But who’s counting when your schol-
ars are receiving the best education at PS48Q!!
Thank you parents and guardians I see that you are making every great effort in
helping your scholar(s) to be present every day and on time. It is such a pleasure
seeing our future doctors, lawyers, scientists walk through these doors excited
and eager to learn. You should really feel proud that your efforts in making sure
your child arrives on time will reflect dedication in securing their growth.
Great things have happened within these past weeks. As you view the PS48Q
website you will see that our scholars have participated in several activities. The
kick off was the Breast Cancer Awareness Annual 3 mile Walk at Flushing Mead-
ows Park. These young women and men were the highlight during this event.
Thank you to the entire 5th grade body, staff members and organizer Ms. Fletcher
for your continued support to this worthy cause. The S.A.V.E. Leaders ROCK!!!
And you too, Ms. Diamond!! You will also see that our scholars stood strong for
the Anti Bully awareness. There was a rally at Flushing Meadows Corona Park
where we partnered with PS40Q. Scholars were given a lecture on bullying and
performance by the Harlem Magic Masters. In demonstration they walked
around the Unisphere (the globe) which reflects our world at large. The spirit in
which all scholars projected was that of peace and unification. In light of all that
has transpired within the world, a hope of light will beam from our circle to
spread love and not hate throughout the nation. Parents teach your children to be
acceptance of others regardless of race, creed, and nationality. Our world is in
such a stress because of hypocrisy and hatred that it has caused us to lose so
many young lives. Let’s stand for equal rights and humanity and love for one an-
other. Where this can begin is at home, just a touch of love from you and a mo-
ment of encouragement for the day will set the tone for your scholar’s day.
On Tuesday, October 24th the Harlem Magic Masters came to PS48Q on our
Sports Day and competed with our 48’ Masters Team and I tell you, WHAT A
GAME!!! Our team players were, Mr. Boose, Ms. Cadet, Mr. Hauptman, Coach
Miller, Mr. Muoio, Coach Washington, Ms. York .. but our MVP, Coach Miller,
really showed his skills and scored many points!!! KUDOS team 48!! A special
THANK YOU to Principal Branker of PS40Q our neighbor school who sponsored
this activity. Our scholars and team of professionals will be ever grateful for this
day!
It’s FUNDRAISING time!! Your scholars should have brought home a large enve-
lope from Mead Farms Fundraising. The fundraiser aids the school to obtain sup-
plies as well as special needs for our scholars at PS48Q. This year’s fundraiser is
online friendly and will expedite orders to be processed as well as delivered to
your residence. The fundraiser is running from October 24, 2017 until November
13, 2017.
“shop talk” is on the horizon!! This new incentive I have started is for our men to
come together once a month to meet and talk about concerns and issues of our
scholars. This meet is not limited to talk about scholars but social issues, family
and community and other related matters that surround our lives.

“Where Scholars Come To Learn!”
It’s time that our men take a stand and become
stronger leaders. Our children are looking for
proud devout men that will be present in the day
when despair arises. The first gathering was so
empowering that each man represented left with
a positive outlook. We shared and expressed
how we can overcome obstacles that prevent us
from moving forward. How we can become
more proactive with our family, home and com-
munity. Here’s an opportunity for you, father,
grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and guardian
to show up and be counted. The next “shop talk”
will be on Saturday, November 18th at 11:00 a.m.
(breakfast is served) - BIG SHOUT OUT TO —
Ms. Guerrini, Ms. Battle, Ms. T. Battle, Ms.
Fletcher, Ms. Capers, Ms. Coleman, Ms. Joseph
and Ms. Tiffany (YMCA) for your support!! Your
presence and giving was very much appreciat-
ed!!! Bishop, YOU did your thing! You definitely
brought us good vibes.
Lastly, Parents I would like for us to come to-
gether to have an informal meet and greet. We
can have a round-table talk. I see some of you
early mornings and at dismissal but we have not
had the opportunity for us to really chat. It
would be great to hear your voices and learn of
your concerns or just what your thoughts are as
it relates to the education of your child. Perhaps
there’s a program in which you may be interest-
ed or you desire to volunteer.. well let’s talk of
this possibility. Everyone is welcome to share, if
you need to just stop by the office and have a
one on one my door is always open.
It’s harvest time and time to give thanks for
bountiful blessings for the year. When we all
come together as a family unit to celebrate life’s
journeys and reflections in how we sojourned
triumphantly. As we give thanks let’s not forget
those who have suffered from disasters and loss.
Give a package to the misfortunate, stop by a
facility where you can lend support or embrace,
a little love goes a long way. We are one commu-
nity with many voices but when we come togeth-
er as one we are strong a force that stands for
equality for one and all!
Be safe and enjoy the holiday season ahead.

“Not Bored Anymore’’
“Wow look at that huge figure” I said. I ran to see what was shaped like an enormous basketball. At that same moment, a player that is a member of the NBA league came toward me and my class. His name was Curtis tiny Johnson and he was tall. “Look at his size” I said. He had on a headband and was wearing a basketball outfit.
Later on, we came to watch a basketball team named Harlem Magic Masters do basket-ball tricks. “Wow look at those awesome tricks’’ I said. They spinned a basketball on their nose. But, the best part was when “black jack’’ spinned five basketballs at once and it was epic. “How did he do that’’ I yelled. Right after, “black jack’’ picked a kid to do three tricks. The kid did the tricks correctly and got a prize, which was a Harlem Magic Master’s hat. After that, everyone was cheering very loud.
Once, we all sat down the Harlem Magic Masters said they are going to pick kids and some teachers to be in a show. They were going to play with a basketball. The rules of the game was if you couldn’t catch the basketball you’re out and they said it was going to be a difficult game. One member of the team was going to pass the ball in difficult ways to catch it. By just looking at the game it looked hard because at the first pass a person got eliminated. At last, there was a winner and they got a prize. Finally, we got to eat and then later played outside. Now, it was time to leave though, we all went on the bus and left. I had an amazing time at Flushing Meadows Park it was very fun.
