Preliminaries Pre-class (10 classwork points): identify the

type of chart you might use (pie, line or bar) for each of the following situations: The total number of baseball cards which belong to

you out of a pooled set of 100 The money which you’ve put away for savings over

time Your total expenses for each month last year Your cumulative G.P.A. each quarter throughout your

4 years in high school The different types of books (non-fiction, sci-fi,

computer, etc.) in your personal library

Excel Review

Be able to freeze the top row of a workbook.

Be able to add a graphic.

Be able to add formulas to a worksheet to calculate sums over defined ranges of values (by rows and columns).

Be able to copy values from one range of cells to another.

Be able to draw attention to certain cells by adding borders around them.

Be able to apply certain formatting attributes to ranges of cells which meet certain criteria.

Be able to construct headers and footers.

Be able to implement filters.

Be able to count a range of items in filtered cells using the =COUNTIF function.

Be able to sort data on at least one column.

Focus Lesson: Charts & Graphs Be able to create a chart in a

spreadsheet. Define the columns and rows. Input the data.

Time function along “X” axis Magnitude along “Y” axis

Decide upon the appropriate chart type.

Run the chart wizard. Format the chart.
