8th Grade Course Catalog
For the 2016-2017 school year, Morrilton Junior High School is required by the State of
Arkansas’ Standards for Accreditation to offer the following classes:
Math
English
Science
Social Studies
Career Development and Technology
Physical Education and/or Health
Fine Arts
Morrilton Junior High School will have eight (8) periods of classes for 2015-2016. This
schedule allows us the flexibility needed to make sure that our students are achieving at
the highest levels..
Math: Math
Algebra I—depends on 7th
gr. ACT-Aspire Math scores and Pre-Algebra
grades and at the determination of the MJHS Math department
English: English
Pre-AP English—depends on 7th
gr. ACT-Aspire Literacy scores;
Summer reading required.
Science: A combination of Earth, physical, and life sciences Science Pre-AP Science—depends on 7
th gr. ACTAAP Science scores and at the
determination of the MJHS Science department.
Social Studies: A combination of geography, civics, American and World History
Career Development: ONE semester class—covers career exploration
Technology: Information & Communications Technology (ICT)—required class
Production class—students will participate in PUP FILES (newscast) and
work on school Webpage design. Application/Recommendation required.
Physical Education: Boys Physical Education
Girls Physical Education
OR

grade Boys’ Athletics (football or basketball)*
8th
grade Girls’ Athletics (volleyball or basketball)*
*Students enrolled in athletics will be enrolled all year long. If a student desires
to play a sport, he/she must be enrolled in athletics. Athletics will continue with
off season practice.
**Students enrolled in athletics must have a current physical on file in the
SCCSD Athletic Department (located at MJHS) in order to practice/play.
Fine Arts: Music/Art—will be included in the Wheel (one 9-week period)
Art 1—all year class
Art 2—all year; for advanced Art students; teacher recommend. required
Choir—all year

grade Band—all year
8th
grade JAZZ Band
Other Electives:
Family CSI (Consumer Science Investigation)— one semester course
focusing on introductory levels of personal relationships, home environment,
nutrition & wellness, resource management, child development and clothing.
Students enrolled will be required to complete the electronic baby project and
to purchase supplies for sewing a pillow.
Tools for Learning: Study Skills—A typical study hall; however, if a student
in this class has late work due, they will be expected to work on those
assignments until completion.
Survey of Agriculture: THIS IS NEW! This course will now be offered at the
Jr. High level. It is an introductory course to work/jobs offered in the field of
agriculture.
Wheel Classes: Art/Music/PE/Health—students will participate in ONE of these each 9-week
period. Students will change to a new class at end of 9-weeks.
**Placement in elective courses is subject to performance on Spring 2016ACT-Aspire scores.
