QuestBridge National College Match is a national program that pairs talented high school seniors with full scholarships to the nations top colleges. QuestBridge Finalists exhibit high academic achievement and their extracurricular activities. This year 14,491 student applied nationally and 5,338 students were selected as QuestBridge Finalists. If students selected for the College Match are matchedto a partner college they are admitted with a guaranteed full, four-year scholarship, including tuition, room and board, and other expenses. Our successes arent just in the classroom. We have had great student participation rate this last season with over 270 students participating in our fall sports. We also would like to congratulate our Marching Band, Badminton, and BoysCross Country, for participating in state competitions. Thank you for all your hard work! We are proud of all of our students who work hard both in and out of the classroom and are looking forward to our upcoming winter season where we have almost 300 students participating. Go Rockets! From the Desk of Principal Salyer

Parents, Students, Staff and Community Members, As we get ready to close out our semester, we’d like to share an overview of some of the successes

achieved by Moon Valley students so far this school year.

We finished out last school year, with 90% of ALL students passing ALL their classes. In addition, 81% of our students excelled on their district exams. This was the best passing rate and student achievement rate in the district! We are very proud of our students. All this success is due to the hard work of our teachers and staff and the support of our parents. We are looking forward to having the same successes for this school year. We have several things in place to make this happen and are already seeing the benefits of these programs. We have small learning communities, professional communities, 8

th hour

and link crew, just to name a few. It takes a village and that’s exactly what Moon Valley is!

Over $10 million in scholarships was earned by Moon Valley students in the last two years. With a focus on more students attending higher education, we hosted our Career Fair in September and our College Browse in November. These events gave all of our students the opportunity to start thinking about their career paths and the higher education needed to get them there. We are looking forward to having our students choose their schedules for next school year during January with their counselors. These conversations are vital to the future of your student.

I would also like to share the successes of a couple of individual students. Moon Valley High School has been honored to have students named as Questbridge finalists. QuestBridge National College Match is a national program that pairs talented high school seniors with full scholarships to the nation’s top colleges. QuestBridge Finalists exhibit high academic achievement and their extracurricular activities. This year 14,491 student applied nationally and 5,338 students were selected as QuestBridge Finalists. If students selected for the College Match are “matched” to a partner college they are admitted with a guaranteed full, four-year scholarship, including tuition, room and board, and other expenses.

We are proud to say that here at Moon Valley, Linda Keo and Kevin Omanwa have been selected as QuestBridge finalists. Please congratulate these two on such an amazing accomplishment! (As we were going to press, we found out that Kevin matched with Northwestern University for a full ride! Fingers crossed Linda, we know you are going to get amazing offers too!)

Our successes aren’t just in the classroom. We have had great student participation rate this last season with over 270 students participating in our fall sports. We also would like to congratulate our Marching Band, Badminton, and Boys’ Cross Country, for participating in state competitions. Thank you for all your hard work!

We are proud of all of our students who work hard both in and out of the classroom and are looking forward to our upcoming winter season where we have almost 300 students participating.

Did you know that nearly $8 out of every $10 in student financial assistance requires the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)? The FAFSA is the first critical step in applying for financial aid yet, so many students and families are unaware of the financial assistance options available to them, how to apply and the steps required for financial success.

UNI101, Moon Valley's College Club, is an organization on campus that welcomes any student who is seeking multiple resources on the process of furthering their education after high

school. They also set up college tours at Arizona universities for students to gain exposure to the "college life" as well as communicate with post second-ary representatives from all types of institutions, inviting them on to campus to speak their "words of wisdom" to the students as well as actually assist them with the college process. Plus, UNI101 continues to offer scholarship writing workshops, where several college representatives attend to provide their perspective, advice, and revision guidance.

Looking for Tax Credits? Arizona law provides a tax credit for contributions to public schools which support extracurricular activities and character education programs.

Your contribution will immediately go to support the high school program of YOUR choice. A tax credit is different from a deduction, because you may subtract the whole contribution from the amount of taxes you may owe the state of Arizona. An individual may contribute as much as $200, and a couple filing jointly may contribute as much as $400 to a public school and receive the money back in the form of a tax credit. To be eligible for a state tax credit in 2016, your contribution must be received or postmarked by April 15, 2017. Tax Credit Donation forms are available at the Bookstore or online at: moonvalley.guhsdaz.org/academics/bookstore
