IMPORTANT 6800 SERIES SIP PHONE FIRMWARE UPGRADE INFORMATION

IMPORTANT M685I EXPANSION MODULE FIRMWARE DOWNGRADE INFORMATION

If you upgrade your phone to Release 4.2.0 and an M685i Expansion Module is attached, the M685i Expansion Module will also upgrade to align itself with the new UI changes.

If downgrading the phone with an M685i Expansion Module from Release 4.2.0 to a firmware version of Release 4.1.0 (or below), it is required to first downgrade to a Release 4.1.0 Hot Fix or 4.1.0 Service Pack and then to the Release 4.1.0 (or below) firmware version in such scenarios.

This will ensure the UI of the M685i Expansion Module is aligned with the UI at all times.

WARNING: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO UPGRADE YOUR PHONE TO RELEASE 4.2.0 WHEN IN WEB RECOVERY MODE. DOING SO WILL CAUSE YOUR PHONE TO BECOME NON-OPERATIONAL.

BROADSOFT BROADWORKS XSI HIDE NUMBER SUPPORT

Release 4.2.0 introduces interoperability support for the BroadSoft BroadWorks Xsi Hide Number feature. By turning the Hide Number feature on (found in Options > BroadSoft Call Settings > Hide Number), users are able to place anonymous calls whereby the user’s caller ID will not be displayed on the called party’s phone.

After configuring Hide Number using the Xtended Services Platform, Administrators must enable basic Xsi interoperability on the phone by defining the following Xsi credential parameters:

• xsi ip

• xsi protocol

• xsi port

• xsi user name

Then, to specifically enable the Hide Number feature, Administrators must define the “xsi hide number enabled” parameter in the respective configuration file and users must enter in their username (if required) and password on the phone through the Options > Credentials menu.

SUPPORT FOR MANUALLY OPENING/CLOSING PORTS 80, 443, AND 49249

A new parameter ("secure web service") has been introduced in Release 4.2.0 allowing Administrators the ability to manually open or close HTTP/HTTPs ports 80 and 443 as well as port 49249. Closing these ports not only disables users from accessing the Web UI and other services such as XML, BroadWorks Xsi, and custom ring tones, but will also help nullify web server attacks as the ports will not be visible using port scanning software.

By defining the "secure web service" parameter as "1" in the configuration files, Administrators can close TCP ports 80, 443, and 49249 on the phone.

Opening/Closing Ports 80, 443, and 49249 Using the Configuration Files

Use the following parameter to open/close ports 80, 443, and 49249 on the phones:

Notes: 1. Ports 80, 443, and 49249 are open by default.2. Closing ports 80, 443, and 49249 does not have an effect on the HTTP/HTTPs client

service on the phone.3. This parameter takes precendence over the "web interface enabled" parameter.

For example, if the "web interface enabled" parameter is defined as "1" (the Web UI is enabled) and the "secure web service" parameter is defined as "1" (ports 80, 443, and 49249 are closed), users will not be able to access the Web UI. Alternatively, if the "web interface enabled" parameter is defined as "0" (the Web UI is disabled) and the "secure web service" parameter is defined as "0" (ports 80, 443, and 49249 are open), users will not be able to access the Web UI but the ports will still be open and visible.

PARAMETER – secure web service

CONFIGURATION FILESstartup.cfg, <model>.cfg, <mac>.cfg

DESCRIPTION Enables/disables TCP ports 80, 443, and 49249 for web services on the phone.Note: Closing ports 80, 443, and 49249 does not have an effect on the HTTP/HTTPs client service on the phone.

SIP FEATURES

LOCAL MODE SCA BEHAVIOR ENHANCEMENT

If the phone is configured for Shared Call Appearance (SCA) functionality whereby the line mode is configured as BroadSoft SCA, the phone needs to send a SUBSCRIBE message to get a dial tone to make a call. If the network device the phone is connected to loses WAN Internet connectivity, the phone transitions into local mode.

In previous releases, the phone would continue to function (make/receive calls) locally when in local mode, but only until the SCA subscription expired. Once the subscription expired, the phone was no longer able to send a SUBSCRIBE message and therefore no dial tone was available to make a call.

In Release 4.2.0. when the phone looses connection and is in local mode with the network device, the phone switches to the generic line mode instead of the BroadSoft SCA line mode. This ensures users are able to make and receive calls as the phone does not need to send the SUBSCRIBE message to get a dial tone to make a call. Once the phone is connected to the the network device again, the phone leave local mode and switches back to its original BroadSoft SCA line mode.

ADDITION OF LLDP ELIN PARAMETER VALUE IN FROM HEADER

The Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP) Emergency Location Identification Number (ELIN) feature allows the phone to use the location information found in the Explicit Congestion Notification (ECN) ELIN sent by the switch as a caller ID for making emergency calls.

When "use lldp elin" is enabled (i.e. when defined as "1" - default), if the phone receives location information in ECN ELIN format (10 to 25 numeric string), the phone replaces the caller ID in the From header with the ECN ELIN value and the SIP URI does not change. For example, the From header of a call from 405 at the IP address 192.168.0.20 on port 5060 with an ELIN of 1234567890 would contain:

From: "1234567890" <sip:[email protected]:5060>;tag=929293baab

In Release 4.2.0, Administrators can configure the phones to add an "elin=number" value to the From header indicating the call is an emergency call, by defining the "use lldp elin" parameter as "2". With the "use lldp elin" defined as "2", using the example above, the From header would contain:

From: "1234567890" <sip:[email protected]:5060;elin=1234567890>;tag=929293baab

Enabling the Addition of the LLDP ELIN Parameter Value in the From Header

Use the following parameter to enable the addition of the LLDP ELIN parameter value in the From header:

PARAMETER – use lldp elin

CONFIGURATION FILESstartup.cfg, <model>.cfg, <mac>.cfg

DESCRIPTION Enables or disables the use of an Emergency Location Identification Number (ELIN) received from LLDP as a caller ID for emergency numbers. Additional functionality to add an "elin=number" value to the From header is also available.

FORMAT Integer

DEFAULT VALUE 1 (Enabled)

RANGE 0 (Disabled)1 (Enabled)2 (Enabled and will add an "elin=number" value to the From header indicating the call is an emergency call)

UI FEATURES

USER INTERFACE REDESIGN

Release 4.2.0 introduces a new contemporary user interface for the 6867i, 6869i, and 6973i SIP phones. Borrowing many best practices from the mobile world, the UI has been redesigned to improve clarity and ease-of-use but has also been engineered to ensure the user experience is instantly familiar.

Highlights of the new UI include:

• To help improve navigational efficiency, avatars and names now take priority over numbers and extensions.

• New color scheme implemented to help improve visual clarity. The use of color is limited to important functions like active buttons, avatars, status, alerts, and warnings. Color is not used as decoration.

• Minimal use of font colors for legibility purposes. The combination of the font colors on the light background provides the UI with a modern, uncluttered, and timeless feel.

• Font sizes take into consideration important information that needs to be seen from across the office as well as more detailed information that is only relevant during interaction at an arms length distance.

• Completely redesigned icon set. UI elements now harmonized to align with all other Mitel products and solutions.

• Re-engineered UI with touchscreen functionality for the 6873i SIP phone including on-screen keyboard integration.

ISSUES RESOLVED IN RELEASE 4.2.0This section describes the issues resolved on the SIP phones in Release 4.2.0.

The following table provides the issue number and a brief description of each fix:

Note: Unless specifically indicated, the resolved issues below apply to the all the 6800 SIP phones.

ISSUE NUMBER DESCRIPTION OF FIX

Configuration

DEF31245/CLN40870 Administrators can now configure the phones to support asymmetrical RTP port handling in Release 4.2.0. By defining the "rtp symmetric port" parameter as "0" (i.e. disabling symmetrical RTP port handling), the phone will accept an RTP stream coming from a different "source" port and send RTP traffic to the caller at the "listening" port.

DEF41010/CLN41048 6865i, 6867i, and 6869i: An issue was observed whereby users were unable to upload a custom ring tone if an expansion module was connected to the phone. This issue has been fixed.

DEF40376/CLN41356 An issue was observed whereby statically configured DNS servers were not being used by the phones after switching from DHCP to a static IP configuration. This issue has been resolved.

SIP

ENH38929/CLN40761 Robustness of the phones were increased in Release 4.2.0 to resolve stability issues observed when the phones received INVITE messages with corrupt Session Description Protocol (SDP) information.

ENH39985/CLN40143 The phone now serializes the sending of REFER event NOTIFY messages in Release 4.2.0. This enhancement was implemented to ensure responses to sipfrag/NOTIFY messages were handled appropriately by the phone after accepting a REFER.

DEF39706/CLN40045 When using the phone with the Metaswitch call manager, if a number was dialed and then immediately canceled using a line configured with SCA functionality, the phone would at times continue to request a line seize. This issue has been resolved.

DEF39821 An issue was observed whereby prior to rebooting, the phone would send a SUBSCRIBE message after unregistering accounts causing internal errors with certain call managers. This issue has been fixed in Release 4.2.0 and the phone now unsubscribes all services for each account and then unregisters all accounts before rebooting.

DEF39873/CLN40022 6867i: With the "display dtmf digits" and "sip out-of-band dtmf" parameters enabled if, during an active call, the user dialed digits very quickly with some digits overlapping, all the digits would display on screen correctly, but some overlapping digits were not sent out in the RTP stream. This issue has been corrected.

DEF40354/DEF40733/DEF41056/DEF41057/CLN40455

Issues were observed whereby the PUBLISH values for the Inter ArrivalJitter (IAJ), BurstGapLoss, and Round Trip Delay (RTD) parameters detailed in the phone’s RTCP-XR reports were found to be inaccurate in certain scenarios. These issues have been corrected.

DEF40859/CLN41208 6865i: When using the phones in conjunction with the MiVoice MX-ONE call manager and CTI application, if the CTI application sent the phone a NOTIFY with a hold request followed by a NOTIFY with an XML Dial request, the phone placed the first call on hold, but at times attempted to retrieve the call on hold while simultaneously initiating the second call. This issue has been fixed.

DEF40904/CLN41227 When using the phones with the MiVoice MX-ONE call manager, an intermittent stability issue was observed during the log on/log off process if TLS was enabled on the phone. This issue has been resolved.

DEF41365/CLN41467 An issue was observed whereby the expected RTCP-XR PUBLISH packets were not sent by the phone after a previous PUBLISH message received a timeout response from the outbound proxy. This issue has been corrected.

UI

ENH40553 6867i, 6869i, and 6873i: Due to the introduction of the new UI in Release 4.2.0, the default value for the "idle screen font color" parameter has been changed to "blue". Additional valid values include "white" and "black".

ENH40794 6863i and 6865i: An enhancement was implemented in Release 4.2.0 whereby after pressing a key configured with Login functionality ("hotdesklogin" in the configuration files), the dialpad key input mode defaults to numeric characters instead of alphabetic characters.

DEF39257/CLN40054 M685i: With the "blf activity page switch" parameter enabled, an issue was observed whereby the M685i expansion module would switch to the third page of keys instead of the second page when a BLF key on the second page changed status. This issue has been fixed.

DEF39915 6867i and 6869i with M685i: Pressing a speeddial or BLF key on the M685i after pressing the information key (the hard key labeled "i") on the phone did not display the speeddial/BLF information as was expected. This issue has been corrected.

DEF40224 K680i: Entering diacritical characters using the K680i keyboard when the Live Keyboard feature was enabled was not functioning as expected. This issue has been resolved.

DEF40456 With an outgoing call in the ringing state on Line 1, seizing a different line to make a secondary outgoing call did not terminate the call on Line 1 as was expected. This issue has been corrected.

DEF40628 When using the phones in conjunction with the Mitel Telepo platform, an issue was observed whereby the Caller ID of a party who was transferred to the phone via an attended transfer did not update correctly. This issue has been fixed.

DEF40856 An issue was observed whereby information contained in some .csv directory files created previous to Release 4.0.0 were not being loaded by the phone. This issue has been resolved.

ENH41277/ENH41274 To improve audio quality, enhancements have been made in Release 4.2.0 to the handset (applicable to all 6800 series SIP phones) and speakerphone (applicable to the 6867i) equalization filters.

DEF38275 When using the phone with the Mitel Clearspan call manager and on an active call, an issue was observed whereby a dial tone could be heard after initiating a secondary call using a sprecode key and then retrieving the original call. This issue has been fixed.

DEF39849/CLN40202/CLN40768

A brief audio gap was observed at the beginning of a connected call in certain scenarios. This issue has been resolved.

DEF40062 With the "Switch UI Focus To Ringing Line" feature disabled, if a call was on hold and the handset was on the cradle, picking up a secondary incoming call using the handset would incorrectly change the audio path to the speakerphone. This issue has been corrected.

DEF40152 6867i and 6869i: When using the phones with the MiVoice Office 400 call manager, after successfully performing a blind transfer, a busy tone was incorrectly played. This issue has been resolved.

DEF40441 6867i and 6869i: When using the phones with the MiVoice Office 400 call manager, an issue was observed whereby users dialing an external party over a SIP trunk would hear a distorted ring tone. This issue has been fixed.

DEF40775/CLN41155 When the "rtp symmetric port" parameter was defined as "0" (i.e. disabled), one-way audio was observed in certain scenarios when an active call was placed on hold and then retrieved. This issue has been resolved.

DEF41279 6863i, 6865i, 6867i, and 6869i: Analog headset gain adjustments have been made in Release 4.2.0 to help achieve consistency in analog headset volume in relation to the other audio modes.

Network

DEF40528/CLN41158 An intermittent issue was observed whereby the phones did not respond to DHCP offer messages in some VLAN environments where there was a high rate of ARP broadcasts over the network. This issue has been corrected.

XML

DEF40330/CLN40389 M685i: An issue was observed whereby pressing a speeddial key on the M685i expansion module while the phone was playing a .wav file (by means of an “AastraIPPhoneExecute” xml object) did not have the desired response. This issue has been fixed.
