Dear Brothers and Sisters, This weekend we formally commission our new Mission Basilica Parish Pastoral Council Mem-bers at our 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM Masses. We offer our prayerful congratulations to the follow-ing elected members to the Council: William Millard, Joseph Flynn, David Bordages, Larry Layton, Del Maze, Gaye Birtcher, Pablo Garcia, and Alexander Bautista. The four appointed members to the Council are: Cutberto Hernandez, Cindy Mueller, Rick Tysdale, and Erin Eberhardt.

The Parish Pastoral Council together with the Parish Finance Council are two critically important consultative struc-tures in the parish that provide wise counsel to me as pastor.

I am grateful to all those members of our parish who were on the ballot and ran for council elections. Their willing generosity to help build up the Body of Christ here at Mission Basilica parish is most greatly appreciated.

With a new liturgical year upon us, we once again ask your prayerful consideration in our annual Offertory Commit-ment. Registered individuals and households should have received recently in the mail information regarding this yearly endeavor. This weekend at all the masses, fellow parishioners will speak briefly on the importance of the gift of one’s treasure in a consistent manner for the support of the mission and ministries of our parish community. We thank you for your response and commitment.

As we begin a new week in Christ, let us commend to the loving mercy of the Lord all those who have recently gone before us in faith, especially Chala Fabela. May they be at peace.

Members of the parish will share about their involvement in various ministries, and how the practice of responsible financial stewardship has blessed them.

A good steward realizes that all of our earthly posses-sions are entrusted to our care for the greater good of all. Financial gifts are necessary to support the work that sustains the parish and the surrounding community.

MENSAJE DE LA SEMANA Continuamos en el camino del Adviento, iniciado el domingo pasado: es un disponernos a preparar los caminos del Señor. Nuestro objetivo es recono-cerle como salvador: sólo Él puede ser nuestra salvación y nuestra esperanza. También para nuestro mundo.

Todo esto viene anunciado y proclamado por la Palabra de Dios en este domingo. De ahí que por medio del profeta, Dios mismo anuncia la pre-sencia de su Ungido, Aquél que traerá la justicia y la paz; que juzgará recta-mente y no por apariencias; que estará adornado de los dones más profun-dos. Es la utopía de Dios mismo que nos llama a un mundo nuevo, más frater-no.

Asimismo, Juan el Bautista nos propone una conversión, un “vuelco al corazón”; cambiar de mentali-dad, de forma de pensar y de vivir. Es el bautismo “con el Espíritu Santo y fuego” del que nos hablará el Evan-gelio. Es esa forma de entender, amar y actuar, como lo hará el mismo Jesús. Conversión es vestirse del mismo Jesús.

De este modo, avanzará el Reino de Dios de Dios, aunque sea de forma callada, sin que apenas se note, pero real y efectivamente: deseos y compromisos profundos en favor de la paz y la justicia; empeño esperanzado por la fraternidad y la solidaridad; búsqueda gozosa de la verdad y el perdón…¡Sigan caminan-do en el Adviento!

Carta del Pastor Queridos hermanos y hermanas, Este fin de semana formalmente presentaremos al nuevo Consejo Pastoral Pa-rroquial de la Misión Basílica durante las misas de 9:00A.M. y 1:00P.M. Damos una calurosa felicitación a los nuevos miembros del consejo: William Millard, Joseph Flynn, David Bordages, Larry Layton, Del Maze, Gaye Birtcher, Pablo García y Alexander Bautista. Además de los cuatro elegidos por el párroco: Cutberto Hernández, Cindy Mueller, Rick Tysdale y Erin Eberhardt. El Consejo Pastoral Parroquial junto con el Consejo de Finanzas son dos grupos de consulta sumamente importantes en la parroquia que proveen sabio consejo para mí como su pastor. Estoy muy agradecido a todos aquellos miembros de la parroquia quienes estuvieron en la balota y partici-paron en las elecciones. Su generosa disponibilidad de ayudar en la edificación del Cuerpo de Cristo en nuestra Basílica es enormemente apreciada. Con nuestro nuevo año litúrgico encima, nosotros una vez más les pedimos que después de orar conside-ren participar en la campaña de Compromiso de Contribución Anual. Miembros registrados en la parroquia debieron de haber recibido por correo la información pertinente a la campaña. Este fin de semana durante todas las misas, algunos feligreses estarán brevemente hablando sobre la importancia de apoyar económica-mente a la parroquia y ministerios de nuestra comunidad. Les damos las gracias por su respuesta y com-promiso. Mientras comenzamos una nueva semana en Cristo, encomendemos al amor misericordioso de Nuestro Señor a todos aquellos quienes recientemente han partido, especialmente por Chala Fabela. SOLEMNIDAD DE LA INMACULADA CONCEPCION Miércoles 8 de Diciembre a las 7:00 PM ≈ Misa de Obligación ≈ En este marco del Adviento, cada 8 de Diciembre celebramos la festividad de la Inmaculada Concepción de María, y esta fiesta es como un indicador de nuestro caminar, si es bueno o no; si es acertado o no. Ella ha realizado ese camino de una forma especial; también Ella “ha preparado los caminos del Señor”. Y por eso mis-mo, se convierte en modelo de seguimiento./aría es presentada en nuestra fe como la mujer-creyente, aquella que vivió de forma privilegiada esta espera del Salvador. Luego, Ella será también la que asuma en plenitud el mensaje del Reino que anunciará Jesús de Nazaret. Ella lo vivió desde el silencio, pero intensamente. De ahí que esta celebración es una ayuda fenomenal en nuestro caminar hacia el encuentro con el Salvador. Seguro que María tiene mucho que mostrarnos y enseñarnos en esta labor. ¡Sigamos caminando en el Adviento... Ma-ría, la Madre, nos acompaña!

X Misión Basílica San Juan Capistrano

Jueves 9 diciembre. Fiesta de San Juan Diego El Jueves 9 de Diciembre festejamos la entrada en el cielo que abrió el camino al nacimiento de nuestra Patria cristiana y mestiza. El que Juan Diego sea santo, quiere decir que podemos acudir a él como intercesor y como modelo, y que podemos festejarlo hoy con el máximo honor que la Iglesia confiere a uno de sus hijos: la Eucaristía... pero nos queda una deuda todavía con Dios, con María Santísima y con él, que es compartirlo con todo el resto del mundo a través de su canoniza-ción, y tanto más que el mundo tiene urgente necesidad de que le compartamos eso que nos dio Dios a través de él y de nuestra Madre Santísima: la fórmula para que los enemigos se reconozcan hermanos.

Vida y Obra de Juan Diego: Nació en 1474. Originario del barrio de Tlayácac en Cuautitlán. Su nombre pagano fue Cuauhtlatóhuac que con terminación tzin (Cuauhtlatoatzin) en náhuatl significa un trato re-

verencial. Su esposa se llamaba María Lucía, quien falleció en 1529. No tuvieron hijos Juan Diego y María Lucía, pero adoptaron un hijo. En 1526, junto con su esposa María Lucía y su tío Juan Bernardino, recibió el sacramento del Bautismo en el Tem-

plo de Santiago Tlaltelolco. A la muerte de su esposa, en 1529, Juan Diego decidió trasladarse a Tulpetlac para vivir con su tío Juan Bernardino. En la presentación que se hace de Juan Diego, se dice de él: "Ce Ma­cehualtzintli", es decir que era un "macehualli"

que bien puede traducirse como un "indiecito", o mejor aún, como "un honorable hombre de pueblo". Su trabajo consistía en tejer petates que vendía junto con otros productos elaborados con Tule. Tenía algunas propiedades, entre ellas la casa donde habitaba con su tío (hoy Templo de Nuestra Señora de la Sa-

lud) y otros bienes los cuales regaló después de su encuentro con María en el Tepeyac. Las tradiciones refieren que el mismo día que se trasladó la Sagrada Imagen a la primitiva Ermita, Juan Diego dejó su

casa y su pueblo y, con licencia del Obispo se trasladó a vivir y a servir en la de María Santísima. Desempeñó los oficios de cuidar, barrer, cargar y llevar todo lo necesario para la Ermita; todo con humildad, pron-

titud y devoción. Ocupaba largos ratos de tiempo en oración ante la Santa Imagen. Con permiso del Obispo comulgaba tres veces por semana, cosa muy rara entonces, y se ejercitaba en la mortifica-

ción y en ayunos. Además, atendía con gran amabilidad a los peregrinos a hora y deshora. Llevó Juan Diego sobre sí una manta con una copia de la Imagen original de la Virgen de Guadalupe, "de una tercia

de larga y una cuarta de ancha; hasta que a su muerte se la dejó a su hijo adoptivo, quien a su vez la dio a su nieto y fue a parar a un sacerdote de Querétaro" y luego se perdió.

Falleció el día 12 de junio de 1548, a la edad de 74 años. Fue sepultado junto con su tío Juan Bernardino en la pri-mera ermita dedicada a la Virgen de Guadalupe.

Desde antes de las apariciones ya era tenido Juan Diego entre los que le conocían como un hombre bueno y justo. Después de sus encuentros con la Virgen llevó una vida muy ejemplar y las gentes lo tenían por santo.

La familia católica promedio gasta cada año más de $12 en galletas, más de $21 en papitas fritas, más de $29 en café para llevar. Los donativos para el Fondo para la Jubilación de Religiosos promedian anualmente un poco más de $1 por adulto cató-lico. El Fondo para la Jubilación de Religiosos beneficia a más de 35,000 religiosas y religiosos ancianos que recibieron estipendios muy bajos du-rante sus largos años de servicio los cuales fueron reinvertidos en el mi-nisterio. En ese entonces, no había planes 401(k) ni pensiones.¡Su donati-vo marcará la diferencia!

Sacramento de la Confesión durante Aviento. En el sacramento de la Confesión nuestros pecados son perdonados por Dios y renovamos la pureza de nuestro bau-tismo. Les invitamos a que experimenten el amor de Cristo a través del Sacramento de la Confesión el cual es un signo muy apropiado para expresar el arrepentimiento y la conversión desde el corazón mismo. Por ello y debido a que esta-mos en el tiempo de Adviento, Sábado 18 de Diciembre, habrá varios sacerdotes de las 8:00 AM a 9:30 AM y el Lunes 20 de Diciembre de las 11:00 AM a las 12 del medio día. No habrá confesiones el Viernes 24 de Diciembre. Asimismo el horario de Confesiones en las parroquias vecinas son las siguientes: Iglesia San Eduardo – Miércoles 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM y Sábados de 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM Nuestra Señora de Fátima – Sábados de 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM Saint Timothy - Sábado 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM Saint Catherine – Sábado 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM y 1:00 PM antes de la misa en Español. Reconozcamos que todos somos pecadores y necesitamos preparar nuestros corazones para la venida de Cristo en esta gran fiesta de Navidad.

nas que quieran ser patrocinadores de una posada ofreciendo su casa. Encontrarán más información en el siguiente boletín. Si usted quiere participar puede registrarse desde ya, llamando a la

oficina del ministerio hispano al (949)234-1360 Ext. 362 ¿Qué debo hacer al prestar mi casa para una posada?

No tenga miedo prestar su casa para una posada. La responsabilidad no es solo de usted, sino que hay un grupo que le ayudará en todo. Su responsabilidad sería la siguiente: Estar presente a la hora asignada, cuando lleguen los peregrinos. Abrir las puertas y dar la bienvenida. Comunicarse con la persona que está asignada a la fecha de su posada. Si es posible, arreglar su casa con arreglos navideños. Invitar a sus vecinos a participar. Asegurar que hay un lugar donde romper la piñata. Colocar señales para saber donde está el lugar de la posada y marcar donde más se va a pedir posada. Hablar con la persona de la Iglesia para saber con que puede usted y su familia cooperar (canela, aguinal

dos, dulces, etc.). También hablar sobre la seguridad y los límites en el uso de su casa. La persona encargada en la Iglesia será responsable de: Guiar el rosario y pedir la posada. Traer lo desechable (platos, vasos, cucharas, etc.), si es necesario. Traer la(s) piñata(s) y aguinaldos. Los que se necesiten. Traer el palo y el paño para cubrir los ojos. Notificar al Depto. de Policía sobre la posada para asegurar que no hay problema. Cuidar el orden durante la posada. Recoger todo lo que llevó y ayudar a los anfitriones en la limpieza. Dejar la caja con todas las cosas para la posada del día siguiente.

De antemano, les damos las gracias por abrir sus puertas y su corazón lleno de bondad al dar un espacio a Jesús por medio de está celebración. No tenga miedo, Jesús siempre tiene algo para los que le abren las puertas.
