Why not consider the beautiful inspired words of the Prophet Isaiah.. “This, ra-ther, is the fasting that I wish…..sharing your bread with the hungry, sheltering the oppressed and homeless; clothing the naked when you see them… Is 58:7 Last month we had more 1300 family visits to our Pantry for food and hygiene items. To meet the needs of the underserved here we are asking for your help. Please consider making a donation as this weekend, our monthly food dona-tion bags are being distributed after all the masses. The bags can be picked up from the baskets by the Basilica doors and can be returned with your donations prior to the masses next weekend March 2-3 or dropped off any time at the Parish Office. Third World Gifts and Handarts Sale of handcrafts here following all masses on February 23 and 24. Their nonprofit organiza-tion was founded at a local parish in 1975. They market handcrafts from developing na-tions and low-income areas of the U.S, thus supporting the self-employment of thousands of impoverished artisans, as well as their survival and that of their families. They also have a gift shop in Orange, and can be reached at 714/464-0556. You may also bring to their craft sale the fol-lowing donations for their frequent visits to Catholic missions serving the poor in Mexico, and low-income Native Americans in northern Arizona: clothing for all age groups; plus blan-kets and linens (all freshly laundered, please); school supplies; new backpacks; hygiene prod-ucts and especially toothbrushes, toothpaste, baby wipes, diapers, Depends; children’s books; housewares and non-perishable foods that are nutritious, such as granola bars and canned proteins. They also need hygiene products, new socks and nutritious snacks for their East-er and Christmas visits to the VA, plus new or gently used clothing homeless veterans. Thank you!

PREGUNTA DE REFLEXION DE LA SEMANA
Declaración de la Parroquia de la Misión
MENASJE DE LA SEMANA: El domingo pasado se nos dio la “orden de salida”: ini-ciábamos la Cuaresma. Y nos poníamos en camino a la Pascua. Y se nos proponía hacerlo siguiendo las huellas del mismo Jesús, puesto que también Él ha sentido la tentación de la duda, del cansancio, del poder, de “lo fácil”, del… Pero Él ha superado las tentaciones. Caminar con Él es una garantía para saber cómo superar esas situ-aciones. El camino seguido por Él fue éste: - “camino de disponibilidad ante el Padre”; - “camino de entrega y de generosidad” a la causa de Dios; - “camino de solidaridad” para con los hombres, sus hermanos. Este segundo domingo nos insiste en que es en el Contacto Directo con Jesús donde es posible el cambio. Es necesario “Escucharle” (nos dirá el Evangelio), “dejarnos pillar” por su llamada, al estilo de Abrahán o los apóstoles (primera lectura y evangelio). Así nada nos podrá separar del amor de Cristo (segunda lectura). Bello mensaje el que este domingo nos ofrece. Si bien, también se nos dirá que el encuentro con Él conlleva la Cruz: no hay resurrección sin Cruz y sin muerte; no hay gloria sin Pasión.

El enviar a nuestros Catecúmenos al Obispo, significa que la comunidad parroquial ha discernido que él está listo para entrar a la Iglesia Católica. En las Sagradas Escrituras, en el Libro de la Revelación hace referencia al “Libro de la Vida” en el cual están escri-tos los nombres de aquellos que han sido escogidos para seguir a Jesucristo y ser bautizados. Aquellos que ya están bautizados, ya
sea como católicos o en otra denominación, ya están sus nombres escritos en el “Libro de la Vida” desde su bautismo. En el Rito de Envío, aquella persona que se está preparando para su Bautismo, es invitado a poner su nombre y firmar en el Libro de los Elegidos, como una señal de su deseo de ser nombrado entre los “escogidos” de Dios. . Las clases para adultos que aun necesitan recibir sus sacramentos son los Domingos a las 10:30a.m., sotano del Centro Pastoral y salón “F” y Miércoles a las 6:00p.m. en el “Salón de Conferencias” del Centro Pastoral. ALGUNAS NORMAS BÁSICAS PARA LA IGLESIA POR FAVOR lleguen a tiempo. Si llegan tarde, esperen hasta que haya un momento libre en la Misa para buscar su puesto, para no distraer a los demás. POR FAVOR apaguen sus teléfonos celulares y "beepers." POR FAVOR tiren el chicle antes de entrar en la iglesia. POR FAVOR usen los patios de afuera de la iglesia para socializar y conversar. POR FAVOR respeten a las personas que quieren rezar antes de Misa. POR FAVOR vístanse de una manera que demuestre respeto para con Dios y su casa. POR FAVOR participen activa y devotamente en la liturgia. POR FAVOR quédense dentro de la iglesia hasta después de la despedida y el canto final.
TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE La Cuaresma nos llama a la conversión, a la cual deberíamos estar dedicados toda el año. En muchas pa-rroquias latinas la cuaresma también es tiempo de misiones. De niño recuerdo haber participado cada año en las misiones de mi parroquia. Escuchábamos a los predicadores con curiosidad, ya que aparecían solo una vez al año y luego se regresaban a lugares lejanos y desconocidos. Nunca imagine que algún día yo también estuviera como predicador de misiones. Me gustaría darles un resumen del mensaje que he sembrado en varias parroquias. Las misiones no son para repetir doctrina, sino para evangelizar a los bautizados. Con cinco temas se puede evangelizar a los bautizados recordándoles los cinco puntos claves del evangelio cristiano: 1) Dios nos ama y nos hizo para él; 2) Nosotros hemos pecado y sufrimos las consecuencias; 3) Dios nos manda a su Hi-jo para librarnos del mal; 4) Jesús desea formar parte de nuestras vidas personales, ¡invitémoslo! y 5) Jesús llena nuestro corazón con el poder y la presencia de su Espíritu. El Señor nunca nos abandonará
Meditación Lo que el mundo necesita hoy de manera especial es el testimonio creíble de los que, iluminados en la mente y el corazón por la Palabra del Señor, son capaces de abrir el corazón y la mente de muchos al deseo de Dios y de la vida verdadera, esa que no tiene fin (ver Benedicto XVI, La puerta de la fe, 15). El 13 de febrero comienza una fase más intensa del Año de la Fe. El Miércoles de Ce-niza “abre la puerta” al camino cuaresmal de oración, ayunar y dar limosnas que guía a los catecúmenos a las aguas del Bautismo que dan la vida, y que nos trae a nosotros a la renovación de nuestros promesas bautismales. El domingo antes de la Cuaresma, para animarnos a que nos alejemos del pecado y empece-mos otra vez en el camino de la conversión personal y el testimonio público, Lucas nos muestra a Jesús re-chazando abandonar a Pedro. En efecto, Jesús le dice a Pedro que será pescador de hombres para que otros tengan la vida en abundancia. Lucas no usa el verbo “pescar”, como en Mateo y Marcos, sino que emplea una palabra griega que significa “atrapar vivo”, es decir, rescatar para que pueda disfrutar de una nueva y mejor vida. Todos nosotros que hemos sido “rescatados” para disfrutar de la “vida en abundancia” somos enviados a rescatar a nuestros hermanos y hermanas, pecadores como nosotros, del peligro y guiarlos a la abundancia de la vida con Jesús.

Preparar una Cuaresma especial en este “Año de la Fe” identificando los pecados que me previenen de desarrollar una amistad más profunda con Cristo y determinar la forma específica de mi con-versión cuaresmal.

♦ Anime a sus hijos a ponerse del lado del algún niño del que los demás abu-san en la escuela.
♦ Hable con ellos y sea sincero compartiendo sus propias luchas y dificulta-des.
♦ Dé buen ejemplo evitando la murmuración y los chismes. ♦ Escuche los problemas de sus hijos. ♦ Enseñe a sus hijos el valor de actos de bondad y amabilidad con otros. ♦ Invite a sus hijos a participar en proyectos en servicio a la comunidad. ♦ Ayude a sus hijos a entender el valor del perdón.
