III. Announcements
There will be a special curriculum meeting December 14 at 3:30 pm immediately after IPC.
There will be a panel of faculty who piloted Canvas December 9 at 9:00 am in MD‐103.
IV. Agenda Changes
V. DISCUSSION
A. Noncredit The draft of the noncredit guide distributed is still being edited but is able to be used as it is currently. Noncredit courses are being held but there will be a meeting with the deans to determine which to move forward. A good system for tracking positive attendance will be needed for these courses. ESL has one which they have offered to present. Noncredit data also needs to be discussed. The data which needs to be gathered for the Block Grant versus other noncredit courses as well as how to gather it needs to be discussed.
B. Approval Process The committee discussed simplifying the approval process in Curricunet. Having courses go to groups of people instead of individual approvers was presented. Courses seem to be delayed in such an extensive approval process. There is concern that courses are not being adequately reviewed at each step of the approval process and there are still mistakes at final approval. An idea included providing a bad COR and a good one as training. The deadline dates may need to be discussed with the use of the compressed calendar. Faculty need to be encouraged to write curriculum in the spring instead of waiting until fall. This is currently an implemented process but many have yet to adapt. A suggestion was given to include deadlines in the curriculum emails as a countdown to curriculum deadlines. Approver responsibilities need to be reiterated and chairs trained to review courses more completely. Wendy Nelson spoke about the need for Flex Days for areas such as this. Drop in curriculum days were discussed with subcommittees and curriculum support being present at least once per month to help curriculum Originators.
C. SLOs and Curriculum Now that the committee has voted in favor of included SLOs on CORs, discussion included how to go about getting them entered into Curricunet. There was discussion around having the SLO Facilitators enter then or potentially having them imported into Curricunet. Facilitators entering them will allow an opportunity for SLOs to be evaluated and/or updated. There was discussion as to whether the Curriculum Committee would now be responsible for evaluating SLOs. Consensus seemed to be that the committee functions as it does now with CORs. The content of CORs is not evaluated but the writing or presentation may be evaluated. SLOs would be looked at in the same manner especially
Attachment A

since they will be a part of the COR. There was discussion about whether entering the SLOs would be staggered as a part of regular courses reviews or if some other timeline would be developed. Hope Farquharson will continue as the Learning Outcomes Council Curriculum liaison for the spring semester while Wendy Nelson is on sabbatical.
VI. FIRST READING – The following Curricular actions are being held at first reading due to changes that must be made before moving forward. Once changes are made, they will move forward to second reading for Curriculum approval. These courses and programs are subject to all curricular timelines and are not guaranteed to be effective FALL 2017 if changes are not made. Changes must be submitted to Cheryl Kearse at [email protected].
