BATAMOTE DRILL HOLE LOG S. SIERRITA MOUNTAINS PIMA COUNTY, ARIZONA

• On April 15, 1969 the Batamote drill hole southwest of the Sierrita Mountains was logged with the Hunter-Scintrex 7.5 kilowatt I. P. Unit. The electrical configuration was one current and one potential electrode down the hole with a 20 foot separation. The second current electrode was on the surface 4000 feet away from the collar of the hole. The second potential electrode was at the collar of the hole. The first reading at the top of the water table was 5.4 m.v./v, at a depth of 600 feet. A reading of 5.9 m.v./v~, was obtained at 700 feet and a reading of 6.2 m.v./v, at 800 feet. The hole was blocked at 8~0 feet. The depth penetration was adequate to confirm the source of the I.P. anomaly measure at the surface which was calculated to be at a depth of about 650 feet. The maximum response measured on the surface was 6.0 m.v./v, with a wenner 2000 feet "a". The material encountered in the d~ill hole from 600 to 800 in the area logged was an unaltered, unmineralized semi- consolidated conglomerate. It has now been proven conclusively that the Batamote I.P. anomaly was coming from minor amounts of interconstitual clay in the conglomerate. No further tests of the Batamote I.P. anomaly are required.

Prospecting Permits 15369-15378

Gentlemen:

I see my letter of March 28 arrived just too late to stop you from processing Prospecting Permits 15369-15378, the bond forms and rental statements for which arrived today. I am sorry we had not been able to come to this decision sooner, so you could have been saved this trouble. I suppose this is one reason for the $15,00 filing fee.

This will confirm what I wrote earlier, that we do not intend to go further with these applications.

Yours very truly,

Prospecting Permits !4812-I~8!9

Gentlemen:

Our work on the land covered by Prospecting Permits I~8!2-I~819 in TI9S, RIOE, Pima County, has proved disappointing, and we wish to cancel these permits.

Aside from building an access road, the only

~ hysical work we did was to drill a hole on Section 8 PP158!5) about 700 feet east of the west 1/4 corner.

The sludge pits have now been filled in, and the site levelled.

Please advise us when you have cancelled these premits on your records so that we may cancel our bonds.

On February 24 we applied for I0 more permits, surrounding the ones we are now relinquishing, and if you have not already prepared the bond forms and rental statements, please do not do so, as we do not wish to go through with these applications.

Yours very truly:

MEMORANDUM TO R. J. LACY:

FARLEY REPORT BATAMOTE GEOPHYSICAL WORK

PIMA COUNTY, ARIZONA

With r~ference to the subject report, I believe Wayne Farley has

done a corr_n~er~aabb job in this presentation.

Dutch Van $~!aricon!'s decay work on the Batamote project was "inconclusive" but ~o.wed somewhat "favorable trends " for a sulfide source. (In future decay work on similar projects we will utilize a longer polarizing puls~¢ ~yith the object of Obtaining more definite results. )

Another factor-!~SNi In itself has a somewhat negative bias is the low apparent resistivit} ~ which Farley measures on the Z000' Wenner configuration. This would predicate an actual bulk resistivity of lower value at depth than has been measured over known porphyry deposits in

the past.

The electrical geophysical criteria, then, would make the Bata-

mote anomaly a marginal prospect. The results of the drilling will serve

to determine the weight to be given to these criteria in future work.

Magnetic correlations and geologic setting (so far as it can be determined) seem generally favorable.

Dear sl r:

Thls t ransmits Mr. Farley~s report on the Batamote I .P. anon~ly located off the south flank of the Sierrita ~ountains. On January 28 a teietype surr.~ary was sent to you re¢o~c]ending an expenditure of $35,000 for ~8o d r i l ] holes and State Land rental. Approval for a ~ining Authorization in this ~mount was subsequently received.

The Batamote anomaly was d~tected during the course of I.P. surveys whlch ~r. Seegart had proposed to cover the west-southwest pro jec t ion of the Train Buttes-Esperan~a altgnn~ent. The anc~maly, about one by ~o miles In extent, Is situated on this trend in an area of al luvial and post-mineral volcanic cover, ten miles frc~ the Esperanza-Sierrita copper-n=~ly deposits. Depth to the polarizer Is estimated at 600 to 800 feet.

I.P. d~cay curve ~,easure:~ents ~,ere reported by Mr. Van Blarlcom e t ~ as Inconclusive In respect to the nature of tn~ polarizer, but that

favorable trends of curve shapes wlth Increased depth sug~oest a sulfide source.

I t should be noted that various I.P. anomalies which have been proved to be dug to aIluvia] clays--=Santa Rita, Picacho and Ryan Projects---were several miles In extent, with no definite l imits in ons or more directions. Hewever~ the ~atamote a n ~ a I y appears confined and thus there Is less probability that I t represents an al luvial clay deposit.

The nearest outcrop of pre-mlneral rock lies about 3 miles to the northeast. There, a s~all area of mineraIizatlon-alteration with minor copper stain occurs In intrusive porphyry, alasklte and sediments. Limits of the alteration are exposed locally and thus this occurrence Is not l ike ly the altered fringe of a zone under the anomaly area, but i t does indicate the existence of mlner~Iiz~tion along the west-southwest trend.

~¢r. Saegart and I concur w i th the d r i l l te~ts reco:=~mended by the Geoph'~,slca! Department, the cost of ~hich Is estimated as follows:

Batamote Anomaly Decay..Curve )~easu remen ts

This memo is in reference to the Decay Curve heasurements made over the Batamote and other pertinent anomalies.

SU~4~!ARY AND RECO~,I~.iE~DATIONS

The decay curve measurements do not conclusively supporL any theory as to the origin of the Batamote I.P. anomaly. The curves do indicate favorable trends and for these reasons I would recommend that it be drilled.

GENERAL

The decay curves measurements do not indicate anything diagnostic but, there are several features of the curves that indicate mineralization. What is encouraging is the magnitude of the difference between the shallow curves and the deeper curves. The curves were matched with curves from Ryan Field, Picacho k~ountalns, and Three Points. While the curves from the short electrode spacing were similar, the curves from the longer spacing were quite different. The Batamote curves tended to be more sulfide like, with depth.

There is a fence in the area, and several measurements indicate that the fence adversely affected the shorter spacing measurements but, that the fence did not affect the longem spacing measurements. The anomaly was tested with a Winner and a Dipole-Dipole electrode configuration and gave similar results. This indicates that the fence is not contributing much to the anomaly.

A more detailed report will follow which will include results from all of the areas measured.

possibly) for a one-way haul of ~ 22 miles. Earthen tanks in the area

are low and wouldn't support a drilling program and cattle. Wells in

prospect area appear to be deep and low yield judging from type pumps

and size of storage tanks. ~later table Ts reported to be + 600' at

Three Points and could be that or more in prospect area.

7.2 miles of primitive road is passable but a bulldozer could trim

it in places.

I would recommend Gel-Foam drilling to start, with conversion to

Mud only if excessive water is encountered. Spot cores could be cut

carefully with Gel-Foam circular on.
