PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear parents/carers,

Each week I have the absolute pleasure of attending our Friday morning

assemblies. This whole school event provides me with the opportunity to share

the amazing achievements made by all students. Students have been working

hard in all Key Learning Areas, further developed their friendships and worked

extremely hard at regulating their emotions using the zones of regulation. It is

such an honour to acknowledge these efforts and to provide the students with

their certificates and medals. I have been able to witness first-hand the hard

work and dedication while I have conducted my walk-through to each of the

classes. It has been amazing to see hands-on practical Maths lessons, creative

and innovative art activities, interesting science experiments and high

intensity PE lessons with Ms Margot.

On the 23rd November we will be celebrating our final KLA day where parents,

carers and family members are invited to share in the education of their child.

This day will hold special significance as we have combined the KLA (CAPA) day

with a fundraising event with the support of the Lions club. All funds raised on

this day will be directly donated to the Children’s hospital and to research into

childhood related diseases and illnesses. Your attendance and support for this

special day is greatly appreciated.

Throughout this term, staff have been actively involved in ongoing professional

development. Combined with Bates Drive, staff have attended 3 twilight

sessions delivered by Carl Warren a behaviour expert who runs ‘Beyond

Behaviour’. These sessions have provided staff with in-depth and up to date

research around student behaviours, emotion regulation, trauma informed

approaches and building positive relationships. The collegial nature of the

experience has forged positive relations with Bates Drive and provided staff

with opportunities to ensure their practice is current and relevant.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parent community for

their ongoing support and involvement in the Learning for Life project. The

school based team have worked tirelessly to ensure the project has been

imbedded across the entire school and ensured that each student has been

provided with their own individualised ‘tool box’. Earlier this term we held an

informal questioning session for parents/carers.

The ‘Crunch n Sip’ project is being utilised each day and has seen an increase in

students consuming healthy fruits and vegetables and also drinking water. It

has been great to hear students having discussions amongst themselves around

the healthy snacks they have been consuming.

Students across the school have also had the amazing opportunity to attend

Sailing (Kogarah Bay) and Surf Awareness at Cronulla. All students should be

commended on their behaviour and application while attending these events.

It has been a great start to term 4 and I look forward to the remainder of

the year and the many events to come.

Perry loves to check the mailbox in his

classroom to see if he has received a

letter.

We are expecting letters from Sesame

Street and from Santa.

Perry enjoys practising his typing skills

as he replies to his letters. He posts

them and waits for his next letter to

arrive.

Class Protea has mail

Class Waratah

We can’t believe it’s already half way through

Term 4. Class Waratah has again been busy

learning and having lots of fun. We have been

learning about Asian culture through “Sadako and

the Thousand Paper Cranes”, two and three

dimensional shapes and our day at Sailing was just

perfect. We are just beginning the filming of our

stop animation short films which fingers crossed

should be ready for viewing just in time for the

end of term. Everybody is excited about the

Christmas holidays but we still have so much to

do….

LEARNING FOR LIFE

Hello Carers and Families, OT Christine here.

Term 4 has flown by and we have been busy working on the Learning

for Life project across the school. Every student should have

brought home a copy of their individualised Zones of Regulation

TOOLBOX with pictures of the various sensory tools they are using

at school to help them stay in the green zone. We hope that having a

copy of your student’s toolbox might be an opportunity for you to

experiment with some sensory tools at home.

Also- your opinions matter to us so we have written a short survey to

gather some feedback. I would invite you to spend 5 minutes or so to

complete the paper survey (sent home with your child) or follow the

online survey monkey link — https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LYVQXJY

Finally, as always, if you have any questions, suggestions, feedback or

comments-

I would love to hear from you on [email protected].

The students had a great time creating wreaths made of poppies for

Remembrance Day. We now have these wreaths displayed at the front

of the library.

Spring has sprung in Class Wattle. We have been busy learning about what happens in

springtime and making spring time displays for our parents to see when you visit us for

the KLA day this term.

We have also been picking mulberries from our sensory garden to turn into jam with our

wonderful SLSO Miss Peta. This can be purchased on presentation day along with other

produce from our school kitchen garden. Wattle students have been trying out yoga as a

sensory break. Check out our downward dog and cat poses. We also loved going sailing with

Sailability.
