Dear Parents and Community
Welcome back to Term 3. I trust you all
had a relaxing holiday with family and
friends and enjoyed the wet weather. We have a very busy term ahead of us
but our students have already settled back into the classroom with a positive
attitude and determination to succeed.
WELCOME
All the Miling PS staff and students
would like to extend a very warm welcome to Miller. We are all very
excited to have a new friend join our
school and have all tried very hard to help him settle in.
CROSS COUNTRY
Congratulations to all of our students who competed in the Colin Moore Cross
Country Championships last term. It
was fantastic to see everyone displaying our core values of respect,
perseverance, cooperation and kindness
throughout the day. Congratulations to Keira Latham, Heidi Mincherton, Eliza
Seymour, Jacob Seymour, Summer
Lewis, Riley White, Chloe Latham, Heidi Seymour and Lachlan McCuish, who all
finished in the top ten of their division.
This Friday the North Midlands Cross Country Championships is being held at
Eneabba and I would like to wish all of
our competitors the best of luck.
ATTENDANCE Congratulations to Libby Mateljan, Caitlyn Pratt, Tyler Douglas, Kiara
Bailey, Callum Barnard, Amelia McCuish,
Eliza Seymour, Jacob Seymour, Ethan Georgy, Molly McCuish and Cooper
Seymour for achieving a 100%
attendance rate in Term 2. Fantastic work!
JUMP ROPE Last term our Pre Primary to Year 6 students participated in Jump Rope for
Heart. We had a fun morning ‘jumping
off’ and all put in a great effort to raise much needed funds for the Heart
Foundation. Congratulations to all of our
students on their fundraising efforts, together they raised $1460.90 which is
amazing!
SCIENCE GRANT I am pleased to let you know that our
application to be considered for a grant of $5000 to purchase science resources
has been successful. These resources will allow us to grow our science
program and motivate and engage our
students to excel from Kindergarten right through to Year 6 and beyond.
BRIGHTPATH PL Last Monday, Miss Huggins and myself
travelled to Calingiri to attend a
Brightpath Professional Learning Day. Brightpath is a fantastic tool available to
teachers to assist in assessing and
moderating student work. The software records the results of assessments and
reports a range of information to staff.
This information provides an informed basis for developing teaching programs
targeting the needs of individual
students. It is also a great moderation tool as it is used by schools across
Australia.
KINDY
Our two wonderful Kindy students, Dale
and Mitch, are both very excited to be attending school three days a week this
semester. They now attend Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Continued next page ...

SCHOOL BOARD TRAINING The Department of Education have given schools the opportunity to request additional training for their
School Board members. We have taken up this opportunity and invited School Board members from Moora PS, Kalannie PS and Dowerin DHS to join us in the training which will be held at Miling PS. Due
to this training taking place on Tuesday 7 August, the annual School Board public meeting will
now be held on Tuesday 4 September.
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to Mrs Susan Dennis on her nomination for the WA Premier’s Teacher of the Year. Being nominated for this award is prestigious and although Mrs Dennis has been very humble about it,
we think it is amazing and are proud to tell everyone we see. Mrs Dennis is an exceptional teacher who
provides a supportive classroom where every student is respected and encouraged. She expects every student to achieve their personal best and will go to great lengths to help them achieve this. I’m sure
you’ll all agree that her nomination is very well deserved.
NEWSLETTER DATE
Please note that our next newsletter will be published on Tuesday 7 August, not Wednesday.
Thank you for a great start to Term 3, I’m excited for a fantastic semester!
Kind regards

Well done to Mrs Dennis on her nomination for the WA Premier’s
Teacher of the Year award!
Congratulations Miling and well done staff, especially Susan, for your tremendous efforts with
Jump Rope For Heart. You raised an amazing amount for a school of your size!
Students were excited to begin BUZ Friends in the Junior Room. Last week I completed a pre-BUZ
quiz with most students before the program. Our discussions were centred around liking ourselves
and knowing our strengths. My highlight was getting students to choose a strengths card and tell
the group what they had chosen. If students didn’t elaborate on why they chose that card I
invited the class to say when they had seen them using that strength. I believe these simple skills
of recognising our own strengths and affirming them in others are foundational to building
confidence and students loved it. Each student then made a simple collage about themselves
using stickers and drawings.
In Game Factory with the Senior Room we played Triple Threat Dodge again and discussed team
work, especially the value of not ‘checking out’ when someone else is in the limelight (eg has the
ball or is speaking in class).
The Junior Room played Gift Ball, a game that focuses on manners and self-control. I had to
quickly increase the difficulty as they were so good at it and I’ll use it to introduce a more
complex game which we’ll play for the rest of the term.
Thank you for your support,
Wil
Congratulations to these wonderful students who have all received Certificates of Distinction recognising and commending their commitment
towards consistently completing their homework throughout

The purpose of a school board is to set the long term future direc-
tion of the school, maintain effective
oversight of the implementation of the business plan and provide
additional expertise to help the school achieve the best outcomes
for students. This year, the school board would like to lift their
profile in the community. To assist in this, we will shine a spotlight
on our board members throughout the year.
Intoducing, Mrs Nikki McCuish.
What is your role on the board?
Parent Representative.
How long have you been on the board for? 3 and a bit years.
What made you join the board? I wanted to have a better understanding of how everything
works and be involved.
What three traits define you? Honesty and loyalty (to a fault sometimes).
What’s one thing you can’t live without? Laughter (mostly at myself).
If you could learn anything, what would it be?
How to not fall over!!! I’d love to learn to say no!! But seriously I would love to learn a language.
What is the best advice you have received?
‘You can’t please everyone all of the time’ and ‘not my monkeys not my circus’.
What do you love about Miling PS?
I love the friendships that my kids have made, our dedicated staff who work hard to help our kids
achieve and I love how welcoming our school is to visitors including parents, grandparents,
friends etc.

MILING COMMUNITY CHURCH
Services Held:-
2nd Sunday @ 9.30am & 4th Sunday @ 8am
Followed By Morning Tea!
ALL WELCOME !
A huge THANKS to everyone who supported our fundraiser either by donating goods towards and/or buying tickets in our raffle. The lucky winner was Jake McNamara.
BookWeek is a wonderful reason to celebrate books and all they offer, and it will be
happening in Week 6 of this term. We will have our dress up day on Wednesday, 22 August, giving
our students the opportunity to dress up as their favourite book character.
Dressing up does not have to be a massive deal, and there are many homemade costumes that are
creative, inexpensive and do not require any sewing. Below are just a couple that may inspire you.
Please remember, it is not about how expensive or extravagant the costume is. Book week is about
celebrating all books and exploring all the wonderful characters that we are introduced to through
books.
The Paper Bag Princess is a children’s
book written by Robert Munsch and illustrated
by Michael Martchenko. The costume requires
some brown paper, cut and stuck into a dress
shape, a white long sleeve shirt, black tights
and a small crown. You could put some face
paint on to resemble dirt on her face.
Green Eggs and Ham is a
best-selling and critically acclaimed children’s
book by Dr Seuss, first published on August 12,
1960. Sam I Am is a character in this book.
The costume requires a yellow shirt, dark pants, red
hat, cardboard sign that has “Sam I Am” written
on it and a cardboard plate with green eggs and
ham drawn on or stuck on.
It's time to enrol your children in swimming lessons for the October and the
December/January school holidays.
With swimming pools and beaches a part of the Western Australian lifestyle, ensuring
your children can swim competently and safely is a must for all families.
Your children can join in the fun of learning to swim in lessons conducted at pools and
open water venues across the State.
VacSwim lessons are for children of all ages (five to 17 years) and all levels (from be-
ginner through to Bronze Medallion). Lessons are allocated according to ability, not age,
so the skill levels of children in each class are closely matched.
Your children can learn to swim for just:
- $7.00 per child for a five day short program
It's even cheaper if you have three or more children:
- $18.00 a family for a five day short program
- $35.00 a family for all other programs.
