. A s the school year progresses, freshmnn become acclimated to the l i fe and customs o f the campus, and the daft* o f election o f students to - important campus offices approaches, there are many longing IooK,h cast towards these posiitons and search -made fo r means o f at tainm eiit.

Perhaps this aspiration towards future prominence is most important on the part o f the freshmen. Members o f the

u p p er classes have had opportunities and many have been tried out.

The impression is usually quite generally prevalent thatpolitics is thc stepping stone, ivith just enough work and experience mixed in to furnish a talk ing point.

It is true that campus potties is a factor to be considered, hut predom inantly important is ex perience and ability . There is absolutely no us«' o f a student attem pting to hold a campus olfice who cious not Jljivc the time to devote to it. the ability, or the kliowledg«- This has been proved to the detriment o f some campus organizations- And the o ffice holders com plete their tenure less popular than i f they

-had remained on the outside. The moral to this is that

freshmen should get started in that activity which they desire to fo llow . I to not trust to politics to secure office. F o r

those w ithout experience should most certain ly not be ftupport- ed.

A t the a ll-co llege elections In March, student council members w ill he selected, and the ed itor and business m anager o f the State News w ill be chosen

The freshmen class should look over their members, determine on the man best fitted to Ik* president o f the student council three years from now, and elect him to that organization every year, i f he upholds his responsibilities.

Executives o f the State News are chosen on a s ligh tly d iffe rent basis. Candidates fo r this o ffice an* selected only a fter experience on the paper and the only method o f obtaining that, is to secure a position there »♦ once and stick to it.
