Establishment:Mission: The Michigan Legislature created The Library of Michigan (LM) to guarantee the people of this State and their government one perpetual institution to collect and preserve Michigan publications, conduct reference and research and support libraries statewide.Established under Library of Michigan Act (Act 540 of 1982). Serving the government of the territory and the state since 18281965 became part of the Michigan Department of Education 1983 transferred to the Legislative Council2001 transferred to the newly established Department of History, Arts and Libraries (dissolved 2009)
