CoursesBUS 7000: e-Business - This course will cover the technology, infrastructure and trends in the electronic commerce and electronic business area. The students will be exposed to basic hands-on skills for developing and designing storefronts in this area. Issues in the management, planning and design of electronic businesses will be discussed. The e-business topics will include Web security issues, electronic payment issues, legal issues, trans- order data issues. In addition, the course will explore in-depth concepts of the implications of e-business such as impacts on consumer behavior, changed media for business transactions, new marketing techniques, global consumerism trends. The course will also focus on business models and business strategies for e-businesses and their relationship to on-ground businesses and brands.

IST 6010: Technology and Systems for Managerial Decision Making - The course introduces the MBA/MIBA student to a variety of state-of-the-art technologies available in the marketplace as managerial options to them. Example topics include reengineering, electronic data interchange (EDI), electronic commerce, web business strategies, risk management systems, neural networks, expert systems and software productivity management.

MKT6999: Social Media Marketing - The internet and other information technologies have created many interesting and innovative ways to provide customer value since its inception in 1969. Web sites for marketing communication and customer support are common. The social media provide perfect platforms for connecting with today’s consumer: High readership blogs, social networks (such as Facebook and LinkedIn), and online communities (such as YouTube, Twitter and Second Life), gave consumers the opportunity to be heard in large numbers, and smart marketers have learned how to tap into these “citizen journalists” for improving products and marketing communication. The course uses a mix of text and outside resource reading, online discussion, interesting projects and exams.

LDR 8800: Leadership in the Islamic Tradition - This course focuses on Islamic leadership as a case study in the complexity of leadership strategies. Learning to negotiate such complexities aids the student in gaining an understanding of multi-faceted, multi-layered leadership contexts and therefore in acquiring a sophistication in the field as a whole. Traditional and newly evolving trends in Islamic leadership will be explored and compared to Western style leadership theories.

LDR 8800: Leadership in the 21st. Century - We are living in a constantly changing environment. The speed of change is accelerating and we need leaders that can and will keep up with the pace of change and direct organizations, be it private enterprise, government, or non-profits into a sustainable future. This course explores emerging leadership theories and behaviors. What we expect from leaders and in turn what leaders expect from subordinates will be explored.

ORG 6320: Organizational Behavior - This is a survey course for incoming graduate students in the Leadership PhD Program. The topics covered in this course include: managerial effectiveness, personal learning styles, written and interpersonal communication, gaining power and influence, conflict management, creating and working through teams, managing meetings, problem solving, decision making, motivation, empowerment and delegation, and stress management. Because of the wide variety of topics explored in this course, time is not permitting to exhaust the literature in any one area. Students are given the opportunity to do a group project in an area of interest, where you are expected to explore the literature in more depth than it is possible during a session in any of those topic areas. This course will serve as a foundation for many advanced leadership courses.

Focus is place on their impact on the global, regional and local levels.

IRL 6280: Comparative Foreign Policy – A survey of foreign policies of different nation-states. Each instructor chooses 8 topics to be covered in depth in this class.

BUS 6260: Sustainability Marketing & Personal Adaptation - This course provides a new sustainability-oriented vision of marketing for the current century and beyond. Our goal is to help students to learn how to develop marketing objectives, strategies and tactics that incorporate a triple bottom line perspective (one that focuses not just on profit but also on environmental concerns and social equity). At the same time, we teach students how to perform fundamental marketing tasks including development of a SWOT analysis, a positioning statement, a marketing mix, a communications strategy.

BUS 6250: Sustainability Management Systems – This course reviews the principles and practice of sustainable business management and the economics that have led to the transformation of our most important business systems. Students will learn how the triple bottom line approach emphasizing people, prosperity and environment can improve profits, reduce risks, and improve stakeholder engagement. The economic underpinning of management is explained as we explore the concept of natural capitalism or what is also called connected capitalism. This class introduces students to the key concepts of sustainability development or management and how they fit together as a system to shape an approach to human exchange that allows for prosperity for generations to come. These key concepts present new approaches for management that can help students manage people and resources better, resolve conflicts, and identify and take advantage of opportunities for all three elements of the triple bottom line.

BUS 6275: Environmental Science and Impact Assessment – Sustainable development has become one of the most important management issues of our time. In order to effectively address and manage the many challenging issues associated to social and environmental problems, a broad and basic understanding of the science is fundamental. This course is designed to provide participants with a basic but broad overview of environmental science. Ecosystems, environmental and social impacts associated to air, soil and water contamination and impact assessments provide the appropriate foundation for individuals interested in the business approach to social and environmental management.

The Marshall Goldsmith School of Management prepares individuals for professional

careers in business, management and public affairs. We develop exceptional,

intellectually engaged and culturally sensitive leaders in all sectors of society.

As scholars and practitioners we prepare our students to successfully address

professional challenges with integrity and compassion with a view to advancing

internationalism, multiculturalism and sustainability.

As a veteran myself, it has been a true honor for me to launch

the Military and Veterans Affairs at Alliant International

University —and to serve those who have served our country.

I am proud to announce that Alliant was recently named one of

GI Jobs Magazine’s military friendly schools, an honor reserved

for the top 15% of “veteran friendly” post secondary institutions—

and in our first program year alone—we’ve increased the

number of military students by 30% through our Yellow Ribbon

Program. I am also excited to announce that we are now moving forward

with the creation of our own Student Veterans Organization (SVO) in the

San Diego campus.
