Audio Visual Aids
It is a time tested A-V aid for teachers
Most readily available and least expensive
Can use it effectively to draw simple line diagrams while explaining concepts like pathophysiology etc
Can be used to note down points being raised by students during interactive sessions
Always start with a clean board (slate) and leave it clean
Do not obscure what you are writing on the board
Use multiple colors
Write neatly and legibly
Start in one corner and then work your way across the board
The OHP is an useful AV aid when large amount of material has to be presented
Pre-prepared diagrams and graphics can be drawn and used to make the lectures interesting
Equipment is easy to handle
Transparencies once prepared can be stored and reused
Use clean transparencies
Use not more than 7 words per line
And not more than 7 lines per transparency
Use large lettering
Print text
Use a template while writing
Avoid smudges
Make graphics and drawings large enough to be seen
Limit the information to one main idea
Lesson outline / number in the margin
Mount transparencies in frames
Notes may be clipped on to the mount
Place transparencies in sequence in a folder
Check the projector
Position (Screen / OHP / teacher)
Darkening the room is not necessary
Switch on the OHP when you are ready to show your first transparency, not before !
Face the participants
Read from the transparency, not from the projection on the screen
Do not block the screen
