Who needs to fly abroad to catch the sun! I hope our more senior parishioners are managing to keep cool. Do let’s be sensible and look out for each other on the hottest days. Our garden birds are noticeably less active during the day when temperatures are high, they know to take a siesta. They join Nickie and I in the cool evenings when we sit out and enjoy a Pimms. Although the birds are not so busy flying about, the airplanes certainly are. Flights are increasing, the noise unwanted and the emissions unaccept- able. More reason not to holiday abroad? I joined the many, many others in writing to North Somerset County Council to lodge a complaint against the plans to expand the airport. The period for comments has closed and there have been 2,290 comments made (1,904 of which are objections) and 306 documents lodged. A major campaign is under- way to prevent this massive and un- justifiable development of a regional airport and I am proud that so many of our parish are behind it. Keep up the good work! June was a good month in our churches with lots going on. A huge thank you as always to those whose hard work makes our lunches, fayres and special occasions such a joy. Blues Vespers caught us all by sur- prise, with nearly 100 people in Holy Trinity for a great Sunday evening of music with Mike Craske and Ellis Johns. They have already said they will return next year so watch this space. Our next Vespers is September 29 th with local Jazz trio Scythia.

Rector Tim has now begun his threemonth sabbatical and is, as I write, inZambia before travelling to South Af-rica followed by a few weeks in Lon-don. We wish him, along with Lindaand Peter, every blessing. In themeantime, services and parish workacross the team will be handled by theremaining team with the occasionalsupport from retired clergy in thedeanery. Please allow for the fewchanges to services and times over thenext 3 months and a bit. Any changeswill be clearly communicated in goodtime. Let’s give thanks for all whosegentle, wise and effective ministrymake Yatton Moor such a great teamto work in.

It is such a pleasure to be chaplain atCourt de Wyck school and followingthe lovely trip to Wells cathedral withthe Year 6’s, I will be presenting themall with bibles at their leavers assem-bly. This is an annual gift, arrangedand provided for by our two parishchurches. We wish those children wellas they move up to secondary school.Enjoy this month and do look out forthose special events coming adver-tised elsewhere in Messenger, espe-cially Lammas on Saturday 3rd August3pm at St. Barnabas – a traditionalrural festival to celebrate the wheatharvest and thank God for His gifts.Peace & all good Nigel

News from our churches.June was a busy month for both StBarnabas and Holy Trinity churches.St Barnabas Fete took place on 8thJune. It was a bit breezy so thedecision was made to have allactivities inside the church.

This made for a very social atmos-phere, everybody enjoying theircream teas and trying their luck onthe various stalls. An unexpectedpleasure was William Hagger whoplayed his saxaphone for us. Over£400 was raised by the event.

GloriaGlory to you, transfiguring our lives with deeds of love.Glory to you, inspiring service of neighbour and care for creation.Glory to you, for your presence in fragrant compassion.Glory to you, for transforming our failures and frailties.Glory to you, for the impulse of our heart’s love.Glory to you, for the regeneration of life, within decay and death.Glory to you, for the gifts of our physical environment, pointing to your presence; giving voice to our vocation.Glory to you, most holy Trinity. Amen

On the 29th June it was Holy Trinity'sturn to have their annual SummerFayre. It was a scorching day and thestalls were strategically placed underthe shade of the trees. Joe Roe drewmany punters with his Nerf gun shoot-ing of mugs with pictures of Nigel onthem. All the stalls did a roaring tradeas did the cream teas and the hot

weather encouraged a flow ofcustomers to Gill's ice cream stall. Atthe end of the day a total of £638 was

made which was over £130 up on lastyear and this will go towards the re-pairs of the crumbling brickwork overthe kitchen window and the renova-tion of the church room. There was areally great atmosphere. Many thanksto everybody who helped to make itsuch an enjoyable afternoon.

Then on Sunday the 30th June wewere entertained and uplifted by Mikeand Ellis at the Blues Vespersevening. They played a variety of

Clevedon Foodbank AppealLocal demand in the Clevedon districthas increased over the last six monthsby 50% compared to the same periodlast year. Stocks are thereforecurrently lower than usual We are nowpreparing for the six weeks schoolholiday which is a period of high de-mand. Last year 400 bags of food forindividuals were given out, plus largerparcels for large families. So we haveappealed through our website andFacebook pages, on the boxes held atsupermarkets and through ourcontacts with local churches, for thefood that is still needed to ensure thatthe families of those children whonormally benefit from a free schoolmeal in term-time will get support tocope with the increased demands ofhungry children during the summerholiday. In preparation for this, we are askingall of the local churches across Cleve-don, Nailsea, Portishead, and the sur-rounding towns and villages toconsider collecting the following fooditems for the food bank. We currentlyneed -

Cartons of Fruit juiceInstant Mash PotatoSponge PuddingJars of Pasta SauceCartons of UHT MilkTins of Big SoupTinned VegetablesTinned TunaMultipack chocolate barsMultipack cerealsThank you very much for your ongo-ing support, we really  appreciate it.

Sewing Angels Wanted.Court de Wyck school are looking forthree volunteers to help at their pro-posed new sewing club. If anyonewould like to help the children tolearn basic needleworking skills thenJan Thomson, the Head, would love tohear from them.Green Shoots ..You would have to be on anotherplanet not to be aware of the damagethat plastic waste is having on our en-vironment. It is frustrating thatchange takes place so slowly whenthere is such a crisis. However, twoincidents recently seem to indicatethat the message is getting through.I was at Scoop and Spice refillinglaundry liquid and handwash. Theyhave been refilling Ecover and otherproducts for more than ten years andthey told me that they have seen ahuge increase in customers using theirrefill service cont’d page 8..

..cont’d from p 5. in the last couple of months. Then inTescos I was amazed to see that therewere loose apples and citrus fruitavailable with no pre-packing. Theystill have plastic bags to put them in,but customers can just put them intotheir trolley loose to be weighed at thetill, as in days of old! I mentioned it tothe lady on the check out ‘And abouttime too!’ was her comment, revealingherself to be a bit of an eco-warrior,having for years recycled her

husband’s old shirts into shoppingbags when the elbows get thin. Thatgave me an idea about Clive’sHawaiian shirts....Finally, I see that two local ladies,Libby Watts and Julia Wallis have setup a new facebook group‘ Yatton Re-duce, Reuse & Recycle’https://www.facebook.com/groups/2931094063582999/ as a support andforum for those who want to live agreener lifestyle.
