  • If your pet slips out of the house and is lost there are a few things you need to do to get the word out that your pet is missing. Social media is a great tool to use. Facebook offers lost animal sites in most areas and are monitored by local animal groups and shelters. Many shelters have a lost pet registry and will call you if anything comes in that matches your pet’s description. Place flyers in your neighborhood and surrounding areas. Travel the area where the pet was lost on foot or bike and call for the pet. Most are scared and will come to a voice that is familiar. Be sure that your pet has a proper identification tag and a microchip in the case that the collar comes off. Donation Opportunities: The Flagler Humane Society Thrift Store always accepts donations. They cannot take in any computers/printers or large appliances. Call 386-597-2839 and leave a message. “General Donations” can be dropped off anytime at your convenience. FHS appreciates all donations, especially those from our Wish List (available at flaglerhumanesociety.org/wish-list). You can also purchase items via the Amazon.com link on the FHS website and ship them directly to the shelter. Outreach Adoption Events: Don’t forget that FHS have volunteers and adoptable pets at Petco in Palm Coast on Fridays & Sundays and at PetSmart in Palm Coast on Thursdays & Saturdays. Interested in becoming a volunteer? Attend an orientation! Volunteer orientations are held at noon in the Humane Society education room every second Saturday of the month. Interested in helping at Outreach Adoption Events? Join our Outreach Team! For more information, contact Katie at [email protected]. Interested in fostering? COLLINS

Collins is a sweet young 2 year old neutered male terrier mix that is in

need of an active home. He gets along with most dogs – even little

ones! He needs a little manner training but he is smart and it

shouldn’t be an issue. He is neutered and up to date on all his

vaccinations. He would love a home to call his own – preferably with older children as he is active and

may knock over small kids. He loves to give kisses and would make a

great addition to any home. Come and meet this sweet boy today.

The crews worked together diligently to rescue a contractor who became ill while on top of the tower. A special thanks to FCFR and to our crews who aided in the rescue! Chief Beadle and Deputy Chief Forte are out on an inspection trip. They are inspecting the engine that is due to arrive soon. Thank you to Lt. He found a few issues with the chassis at the plant that will be addressed before the engines arrive. This week our Driver Engineers went through Driver Training conducted by Driver Engineer Nunziato. The training consisted of aerial truck check out and use of options on the aerial device.

Firefighters rescue ill contractor from top of Palm Coast water tower Palm Coast – Palm Coast Fire Department and Flagler County Fire Rescue performed a dramatic rescue Wednesday afternoon at the City’s main water tower, where a contractor working for the City of Palm Coast’s Utility Department became ill while on top of the tower. The employee of contractor Utility Services, a company based in Perry, Georgia, was transported by ambulance to Florida Hospital Flagler for treatment. He was conscious. The company identified the employee as Chris Young of Georgia. Young and two co-workers were doing maintenance on the mixer in the bowl of the 150-foot water tower, which is located near the Lowe’s off Interstate 95 near the Palm Coast Parkway interchange. Young became ill, and his co-workers called 911. The first Palm Coast engine company arrived at 2:11 p.m. Several units from both Palm Coast Fire and Flagler County Fire Rescue responded, with firefighters trained in high-angle rescue taking the lead. Eight firefighters went up into the inside of the water tower, with a crew providing medical treatment and hydration while other firefighters began the rescue operation. Once it was safe, firefighters began the operation to carry Young down using a rescue harness. It took about 30 minutes to bring him down via a narrow ladder through the confined space of the inside of the water tower. He was safely down to the base of the water tower by 4:42 p.m. and immediately transported to the hospital. Crews responding included Palm Coast Fire Engines 21 and 25, Battalions 20 and 23, Ops 21 and Technical Rescue 2, and Flagler County Fire Rescue Engine 92, the Light Technical Rescue Team, Rescues 92 and 21, Battalion 93, Chief 1 and Chief 3.

  • It was in the high 90s in Palm Coast on Wednesday afternoon, and firefighters said with the summer heat it is easy to experience a heat-related emergency such as heat exhaustion or even heat stroke. To stay safe in this heat:

    Stay hydrated

Monitor your time outdoors, keeping in mind the high temperatures

Avoid going into attics or other confined spaces where temperatures are high

If you get light-headed or feel fatigue or lethargy, immediately get into the air conditioning and hydrate. If you don’t improve quickly, seek medical attention.
