General OverviewTake time to carefully review each of the assignments and project requirements found on the FSO course page before you begin your work. Rubrics are found at the end of each assignment and in the reference tab.

Course Milestones: AR Status Report, AR Summary Page, EMDT Publish/Leadership ProjectAs mentioned in the Course Description, during this month you will have three major projects: an AR Status Report, AR Summary Page and EMDT Publish/Leadership Project. The AR Status Report will be a comprehensive assignment verifying that all AR pages & AR blog entries from the previous 10 months have been successfully completed. As with all previous month you will have a month specific AR assignment, in this case you will create an AR Summary web page. And finally the EMDT Publish/Leadership Project is an opportunity for you to take your AR work and convert it into a publishable article and/or create a pathway to leadership roles in Ed/Tech organizations. Detailed information on these projects can be found in FSO.

Your BlogYour blog forms the backbone of how you will turn in most of your course work. Your blog will be where you reflect, think "out loud," vent and problem-solve difficulties encountered along the way. That is, your blog is where you will write about your learning from the weekly reading and where you will post your thoughts on and progress with all your projects, particularly your EMDT Publsih/Leadership Project. You will post five times a week, with two of your five blog entries being copies of comments you’ve made on another classmate’s blog. Format-wise your blog entries can be text (with an image), an audio podcast or a video podcast. The idea is to enrich and extend your learning by "doing" and then reflecting on what worked, didn't work and how this new learning might improve your teaching or presentation skills. See FSO for detailed instructions.

Discussion BoardsThe Discussion Board is a place to share what you've been learning and gain from the experiences of others. Please note, because these discussion boards are meant to be analogues to a conversation, please limit your individual comments to a couple sentences that provoke or further the "conversation." You may comment as many

times as you wish, but please leave "room" in the discussion for the comments of others. If you have a lot to share, just like in a "real" conversation, seed the conversation with your insights, a comment here, a comment there, leaving room for others to contribute. Each week there will be two to three discussion boards to contribute to. Your frequent participation is appreciated, even if just for a couple minutes. Join the conversation, there's room for everyone.

Wimba/Sync Sessions One of the greatest overlooked strengths of online education is being able to meet together with other learners from all over the world without having to leave ones own house. Unlike previous generations of distance learning where the learner was expected to get everything via static text or a VHS tape, this program and this course recognizes how much more powerful learning is when it's done as a group. Recognizing the importance of "meeting" together, participation in Wimba sessions will be graded like "Activities." So, show up, contribute and get an "A."

ReadingThe course text, The Art of Possibility, is not an instructional text. It is offered as a source of aide, contemplation and renewal as you work through the last two months of this degree program. You are required to write about your reading in your blog at least once a week, but the book may also pop up in the discussion boards and during our Wimba sessions. Enjoy.

Tutorials, Tech Tips and Media IssuesIn FSO, after the long list of activities for weeks 1 through 4 is a list of tutorials, tech tips and articles on various media issues. None of these items are required readings and there are no point values assigned to these activities. But they are offered to assist you, the learner. The tutorials are a starting place to begin to explore various media applications. The tech tips are offered mostly to assist with the blogging activity. And the Media Issues articles are offered as a

General Overview, continued“what’s in the news” link between our course and what’s happening in the real world. The tutorials, tech tips and Media Issues are the “recommended” or additional reading/viewing part of the course. You are welcomed to quote or refer to this section in your blogs and discussion board assignments.

PoliciesYou are responsible for all content, assignments, deadlines, and policies found in the Full Sail Student Handbook, the syllabus, and the MAC course page posted on FSO. It is your responsibility to complete all assignments and submitted them on time, regardless of technical challenges that may occur. If you do experience technical difficulties please contact FSO directly at either [email protected] or 1-877-437-6349. The support department is available 8AM -10PM M-F, 11AM - 6PM Sat. and 6PM - midnight Sun. Allow extra time for any unforeseen circumstances. Retain a backup copy of all your work. Store your media on an external drive if you have one. Again, keep these hours in mind and plan accordingly.

As far as course content, please contact me directly if you need clarification or need to discuss extenuating circumstances. It is always a good measure to communicate with me if you need clarification or need to discuss special circumstances affecting meeting your deadlines. Make sure your Full Sail email accounts are set up and working. All e-mail communication from the instructors will be done through your Full Sail email accounts. Also utilize iChat, Skype and any other options available to afford yourself a broad experience with a variety of communication vehicles.

If you have a question about this course, please consult the documentation in the References Tab in FSO first before attempting to contact your course director. After consulting the documentation, please use iChat or Skype for quick immediate answers to questions. For more in-depth questions or questions after-hours please use email and your course director will get back to you by the next day. Another excellent source for information are classmates. While respecting each other’s need for privacy, make sure to have up to date iChat and other contact information. Finally, please direct all tech questions to FSO Support at 1-877-437-6349 or [email protected].

One shortcoming of b logs, d iscuss ion boards and email is t h a t t h e t o n e o r emotion of messages are often not obvious to the recipients of the messages. Please take great care how y o u w o r d y o u r messages. B logs, discussion boards and emai l a re to v a r y i n g d e g r e e s p u b l i c f o r m s o f communication and should be treated with the expectation that anyone could possibly read the message. One good way to think about this is that if you would not say it face-to-face to the person or in the presence of others then it’s probably best NOT to post the message. The Golden Rule still applies in this class. Do not post something that you would not want someone else to post to or about you.

Even though this course is entirely online and there are no direct group assignments, please do not miss the value of working, consulting and supporting each other. Take advantage of the technology to have a better learning experience than you would normally have if you were taking courses at a different venue where ”interaction” means staring at the back of the heads of your fellow students for three hours a week. Listen. Share. Do.

Copyright and Attribution Guidelines• Copyright is serious business.• Netiquette is dependent on sharing and linking.• Use your APA Style book when attributing any information or media taken from

another source, especially information from the Internet.

• If you use a still image found on the Internet:o Do Not “Deep-link,” (to embed an image onto your site - where the image is

still hosted at the original site).o Determine if the image is open to being shared (public domain or creative

commons) or get permission from the copyright owner. When in doubt - do not use.

o If you have permission to use the image: host the image on your site, include a written attribution caption for the image, and link the caption/image back to the original website.

• For audio media follow the same guidelines listed above plus the following. o Do not host and publish any MP3 files or audio media that you do not have

permission to share from the copyright owner. o As with still images, attributed public domain and Creative Commons images

are permitted. o There are commercial applications such as SonicFire that are designed

specifically to create freely distributable soundtracks for videos, presentations and projects. Something you create in GarageBand is permitted.

• Use of video clips is more of a grey area than still images or audio media. Please consider the following:

o Short video clips used to illustrate a point or as commentary MAY be permitted.

o Current good netiquette is to either link to the video or embed the video to your website.

o Videos released as Public Domain or with Creative Commons license are permitted.

o Some copyright holders recognize that short clips do not hurt the value of their media and generally promote sales of the work. Viacom and Disney do not share in this understanding of user promotion.

o Let the blogger beware.

Full Sail Grading Scale:A+ = 95 – 100%A = 90 - 94%B+ = 85 – 89%B = 80 - 84%C = 73 – 84%D = 70 – 72%F = 0 – 69%Full Sail’s accreditation requires that master’s degree students earn a C or better in their courses. Students

Synchronized sessions deepen our educational experience. I use the pronoun “our” because I believe when education is done well both the students and the instructor stretch the limits of their understanding. Of course, these sessions include instruction from your Course Director. However, these sessions will primarily be a dynamic, interactive, and supportive exchange of ideas. Your attendance is vital to the integrity of your educational experience as well as that of your classmates. At the Masters level, I prefer a Q&A discussion of the course materials, it is therefore imperative that students go over the pre-session Wimba activities listed in FSO before we get
