Omni Hotel, Suite 321 Nursing Alumni Lecture—Finding Balance When You Are Topsy-Turvy 11:15 a.m. Elizabeth Day (B.S. ’95/N; M.S. ’01/N) is a medical surgi- cal nursing theory, clinical and simulation instructor for Fresno City Community College in California. Currently she is enrolled at University of Phoenix in the Philosophy in Nursing Doctoral Program. Day has gained tremen- dous insight through her nursing experiences, including serving in the United States Navy, intensive care, neurol- ogy, medical/surgical, mission work in Nairobi, Africa, parish nurse and home care. Day won the Excellence in Caring Practice Award twice from the American Associa- tion of Critical Care Nurses. She has co-authored a chap- ter on “Ethical Considerations for Neuroscience Nurses” for the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses Core Curriculum. She is also a nationally and interna- tionally recognized speaker on topics pertaining to stress management, death and dying, spirituality, cultural diver- sity, communication, stress and compassion fatigue. Her signature saying is: “Death is not routine, even though it is a part of life. Neither the patients facing death nor the patients’ loved ones will ever tell you that death is routine. is is where we as health care professionals can make a difference, not only in the lives of our patients, but also in the lives of those left behind.” Sadie Heath Cabaniss Hall, VCU School of Nursing. Richmond Landmarks Segway Tour 2:45–5 p.m. Leaving from the lobby of the Omni Hotel, the tour begins with a 15-minute orientation to make sure you’re safe and comfortable gliding around town. On this guided Segway tour, you’ll see many of Richmond’s well-known land- marks, including e John Marshall House, e Wickham House, Valentine Richmond History Museum, St. Paul’s Church, James River Flood Wall, Brown’s Island and e American Civil War Center at Historic Tredegar. Segways require riders to stand while balancing on a two- wheeled machine for two hours ( see photo ). River District Historic Canal Cruise 3:30– 4:30 p.m. Learn about Richmond’s fascinating history along the James River. Enjoy a great view of the city’s skyline during this hour-long cruise through the city’s canal system, which was established in 1785 and completed in 1840. Tour leaves from the Turning Basin at 14 th and Dock streets. Located within three blocks of the Omni. Among others, some of the sites seen on this tour are the Edgar Allen Poe Museum, the Holocaust Museum, the site of the 17 th  Street train crash, the Richmond Slavery Reconciliation Statue (one of three statues on three separate con- tinents), the Triple Crossing (the only place in the world where three train tracks cross at the same point), Lumpkins Jail (a slave jail recently excavated, known as the “Devil’s half-acre” and the site of extreme cruelty during the Civil War), the monument to Henry “Box” Brown, and the 17 th  Street Farmers’ Market. Learn Something New … Interest SeminarsInterested in expanding your knowledge about fine wines and beer or exploring Richmond’s rich history from a Segway? These fun seminars during the week-end broaden your horizons.

Theatre VCUApril 11 is opening night of Theatre VCU’s produc- tion of “Arabian Nights.” The show magically trans-ports you to Shahrazad’s imaginary world of Ali Baba, Sindbad the Sailor, secret sorceresses, singing trees and wise-talking birds.

Hospitality SuiteIf you are searching for a great central spot to meet your friends and classmates during the weekend, tell them to meet you in the MCVAA Hospitality Suite. The MCVAA is pleased to provide complimentary snacks and nonalcoholic beverages. Feel free to bring your own alcoholic beverages. Suite is open 11 a.m.–4 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Omni Hotel, Room 321.

Sunday Brunch with the MCV FoundationThe MCV Foundation hosts the Class of 1964 and retired faculty for Sunday’s brunch and induction ceremony. We thank the MCV Foundation for its generous support!

MCVAA has negotiated a group rate of $159 per

night at the Omni Richmond Hotel** for Reunion

Weekend. The Omni is located in downtown Rich-

mond at the corner of 12th and Cary streets. Valet

parking is available for $20 per night with unlimited

ins and outs. Please contact the Omni Hotel at 804-

344-7000 or 800-843-6664 (1-800-THE-OMNI)

and identify yourself as a Reunion attendee to reserve a room. Deadline for Omni reservations (at this reduced rate) is April 2. The hotel suggests making a reservation as soon as possible. Rates are subject to state and local taxes. All rates are for sin-gle or double occupancy. Special group rates are not available at the following hotels, but you can book your own reservations:

Reunion Reservation DeadlineReservations for all events are taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Space for many activities is lim-ited, so please register early! You must preregister for all weekend activities. Checks should be made payable to the “MCV Alumni Association.” The registration deadline is April 4, 2014. After April 4, if space is still available, a $100 late registra-tion fee is charged per form. If you need to cancel your reservation, all fees minus $30 will be refunded if you submit your cancellation in writing by April 4. Registration packets should be picked up at the MCVAA Registration Desk at the Omni Hotel. See schedule for hours of operation.
