Under the JENESYS Programme, two students of our school Shefali Yadav and Shubham Bhatnagar of class XI visited Japan from 9th - 19th June 2012. 119 students from various schools took part in the programme. The purpose of the programme was to gain more understanding about the culture and education system

of Japan. They visited the Tokyo museum ‘Ishikawa prefecture’ and the Tokyo University. The students enjoyed a calligraphy session with students of Terai High School and visited JAIST (Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology). It was an expedition filled with exploration and learning.

Two cultures uniting in the land of the rising sun

TINY TOTS ON STAGEBased on the theme of the month, in the month of July, students of Pre- Nursery and Nursery enacted stories and recited rhymes on the theme ‘Environment’. The students participated wholeheartedly and extended their gratitude to Mother Earth.

JENESYS Programme (Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youth)

Shubham’s ExperienceThe most impressive thing about Japanese people is their humble nature and practical approach to every situation. Despite several setbacks in their economy due to natural calamities they are a strong and united nation. I think that the country is very technologically advanced. I felt that there was a lot to be learnt from the citizens and their way of living, which includes abiding by all rules.

Shefali’s experienceI visited Kaneno Elementary School and saw that the students themselves serve the food and clean the tables. The teachers and the students sit together for their daily meal. The people are very honest and hardworking. One of my friends left her purse at a shop and the shopkeeper came to return the purse. I was impressed by the discipline and cleanliness in that country and felt inspired to take an initiative to save electricity in our school. The shadow council and student council members would ensure that all the fans and lights are switched off during dispersal.

The Salwan stage is all set to present the ancient narrative Mahabharata in vibrant colours of dance, drama and music. The upcoming mega event has generated a great excitement in the Salwan atmosphere. Besides the dance rehearsals, Display Board preparations, talk shows in the assembly, questions related to the different events and situations in Mahabharata have been put up on the school website. Opinions and views on the topic are invited. This is certainly keeping all the students involved and active with the mega event. One of the questions that had been put up was:

Dhritrashtra could not ascend the throne of Hastinapur as he was

physically challenged (blind).

Do you think this criterion is justified?

Yes, it was justice to the people of Hastinapur as a blind man could not look after himself; his wife was the one to look after him, for such a man it is impossible to look after the people of Hastinapur and the Hastinapur itself. Thus, he was not the man for the throne of Hastinapur..... -Sidhant chhabra

Dhritrashtra was physically challenged (blind) and so he couldn’t ascend the throne of Hastinapur. The duty of a king is to resolve the problems of his people and to help and support them. How can a person who is himself dependent on others for his every next move

control such a big empire? -Somya Dudeja
