Mayor’s Report Much has happened in the past month – some good, some bad and some just plain ugly. We have farewelled retired CEO Roger Sweetman and welcomed James Holyman who commenced on

29th April. Deputy CEO Nick Brown took the reins in the interim and managed admirably with the dual work load.

Optus have lodged a development application to install a telecommunications tower in Victoria Street. There have been 5 official representations and 49 unofficial ones which have been passed on to Optus. I have been in constant contact with Optus with regard to finding a suitable location and negotiations with them will continue.

Likewise with Telstra, however things are not really progressing with this issue. Finding a more suitable location for their tower is difficult given they already have approval but we are communicating with them and no work has started as yet.

We farewell another employee in early May with the retirement of Robyn Paterson from CCOWS. She has been a trail blazer in her field and the Robe community has been blessed to have had her. She finishes on 3rd May and is off to hike the Camino Trail in Spain with her brother amongst many other exciting things she has planned. We wish you every happiness in your retirement Robyn.

With that, we congratulate Karla Dew on her appointment as CCOWS Director. There were 8 applications for the role, 2 high quality applicants were interviewed and Karla’s quiet passion for all things CCOWS won her the position. The Elected Members look forward to working with you.

We continue to work through our budget and the Community Plan will be presented to the community for public consultation shortly.

After discussions with staff, we have decided that Elected Members will be updated with any development applications that require public notification under the Development Act. Councillors will now be provided with information which allows us to provide relevant details and feedback to the community as needed.

Thanks to all of those people who showcased Robe so beautifully on the recent SA Weekender program. Very professional, warm, inviting, well spoken and passionate.

With regard to the recent rumours, emails, media articles and texts that have been circulating about the Ombudsman’s Report on the Marina, I would like to say to our community that there has been no fraudulent or criminal activity from either retired CEO Roger Sweetman or the Elected Members in 2013. There was a breach of the process around procurement and that is what the Ombudsman has detailed in his findings.

I find it disappointing that some people see conspiracies at every turn, scour the minutes and agendas for errors and accuse Elected Members and staff of deceitful behaviour. The people of Robe are good people, as are their elected members, and it is a sad reflection on our community that we are unable to leave the past behind.

I am spending a significant amount of time defending our integrity in the wider Limestone Coast community. I sincerely hope the tide is turning and that our community will rally behind Council and the people they recently elected when presented with innuendo and gossip. We are a strong community and deserve to be in the media……..for all of the right reasons.

If you would like clarification on anything you have read or heard, please contact either myself or any of the Councillor’s.

I will be away from 18th April to the 12th May but am happy to discuss any issues as soon as I get back. Mayor Alison Nunan

CCOWS (Child Care on Wheels Service)

Dear Families, As many of you are aware, CCOWS is about to undergo one of the biggest changes in our service’s history. Our director Robyn, who has been instrumental in the inception, development and success of our child care service, is retiring after a long and distinguished career in early childhood education. Robyn has been with CCOWS since the very beginning, working tirelessly to create and implement a service that would suit our community’s need. Her time as director has seen the service develop and grow to what it is today – a childcare service that delivers quality care and education to children and families in three different communities within our region. Robyn is, and has always been, a passionate advocate for children’s development and education, and tirelessly campaigns for the rights of children in rural and remote areas of Australia. Country families are often forgotten by those in positions of power, who see the world as being lived within the city limits, so Robyn’s passion for children’s rights has seen her become an important voice for rural and remote communities; a voice which has been sought after and heard within both the state and federal governments. We would like to wish Robyn all the best for her retirement, and hope that she enjoys a future full of relaxation, family, travel and a lot of new adventures. While Robyn will be sorely missed by all, we are very excited to begin a new era under the direction of Karla Dew. Karla has been with our service for several years now and has worked in a variety of roles during her time with us. Karla has a great knowledge of all the different aspects of our service, and we look forward to working with her in this role. Good luck to both Robyn and Karla in their new ventures! - Shannon and the CCOWS Staff Team

After 53 years of continuous involvement with Children's Services and Education,
