Masthead Font Styles

Font Name: Sketchtica

The denotation of the font style I would use for the masthead for my magazine is Sketchica. The font Sketchtica gives the masthead a very basic appearance, which varies from most magazine fonts currently in use. The fact that it is very basic and not very conventional masthead could reflect the simplicity of the genre of music the magazine is based on: Songwriter/Alternative. Additionally the fact that the text looks like it has been Hand drawn could express how the artists featured in the magazine are not as popular as bigger artists and that there isn’t much volume to the music itself.

Font Name: CF Anarchy

The denotation of the font style I would use for the masthead for my magazine is CF Anarchy. The connotations behind the White and Black letters could show how not everyone in the songwriter/indie genre makes it as a big “bold” artist but some only earn enough to make a living. The almost scratched letters could indicate how the road to success for some like Ed Sheeran has not been easy but they have eventually made it and it was all worth it in the end.

Font Name: Olivier

The denotation of the font style I would use for the masthead for my magazine is Olivier. This font is very classy and unique, which could express the formality of the magazine and a sense of professionalism. However, as a masthead it may be less eye-catching then most other magazines and it has a more feminine appearance, which may not appeal to the male audience.

Masthead Font Styles- Final Font Style

Font Name: Avenir Black

The denotation of the font style I will use for the masthead for my magazine is Avenir Black. The Avenir Black font style is available on all Apple products as standard and is easy to manipulate and add for example symbols. This font is very modern and bold which should help it stand out amongst the other magazines, and it is similar to my magazine of inspiration: NME. The font, although basic can be easily integrated with another symbol or image to create a simple logo that stands out amongst the others. This will be my final font as it has everything I want my magazine to express: professionalism and formality. I may experiment with different colours to use with the font-most likely a shade of blue with white text.
